One last point but the Giants front office needs to take the blame for the relief mess. They should have made a deal before the waiver deadline. The two significant contenders -- Cubs and Nationals -- did and it stabilized the back of the bullpen. Conceivably, the Cubs could have survived without it but the Nationals saw the issue and fixed it.

Please stop this ride I want to get off...:mad::mad: I CAN NOT believe how many ups/downs this team has put me on this year, after going to Boston and a hard away stretch the O's come within 1 game of 1st place only to come home and get embarrassed by the last place Rays then in the biggest series of the year they have folded like a deck of cards in a wind storm:mad: at this point wildcard doesn't make a whole lot difference, and can't wait until Bucks press conference about "that's the way the ol ball bounces sometime" or "well it just wasn't meant to be".

Nats are ticking me off, again. Just when they get to the finish line, they've gone to sleep, losing 3 in a row to Atlanta and Miami. What are they planning on doing, backing into the division title instead of reaching out and taking it? They better wake up and start playing winning baseball and establishing some sort of positive momentum for the playoffs. -- Al
Nats have gone to sleep at the wrong time of the year. Lost 1-0 to Miami, their 4th loss in a row. Dusty, time to earn your money, do your job and wake them up! -- Al

If Sammy and Al are annoyed, welcome to the club. Mets look anemic. Braves have played them tough this year but still....

Yep. Biggest series of the year, needed big starts from our aces and we got the opposite. Now we're behind the 8-ball. The division title chances have all but disappeared and now we will have to fight and scrape to hold the WC. Two big games with Boston still remain. Maybe Ubado and Tillman will come through for us. Someone has to. -- Al

Interesting stat for Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. He now has 18 RBI's this season, the most by a pitcher in the DH era (since 1973). -- Al

At least Buck is more creative in his excuses than Girardi....Does get tiresome for the fan of any team, when their manager and team does not show the same heart or feel the urgency as we do..:(Michael

You are kidding, right? You think the manager of any team doesn't care as much as its fans. If any thing, they care more as they are doing this year round, 24 hours a day. What do you expect Girardi or Buck or Terry or Dusty to do? Jump up and down and scream and holler every time something doesn't go their way. What kind of image or lesson would that set, not to mention you'd probably criticize them for doing so. When I watch Terry, I'm actually amazed he doesn't show more outward emotion when things don't go right (as opposed to me who's cursing at the screen).

11 games to go and the NL WC has become a 3 team gang fight. 3 teams in an absolute dead-heat (I have no idea who holds the edge in terms of series wins against their rival), but it is an incredible race. The AL WC race isn't quite as close in terms of teams tied with each other, but there are still 6 teams in position to get into the WC game. Lacking a true division title race at this point (barring an unforeseen total collapse on someone's part), the WC race is where the action is. The marathon that is the regular season is going to come down to a sprint to the finish line for up to 9 teams. It can't get much better than that. -- Al

The Mets and Cards hold the tie breaker vs the Giants. Mets and Cards tied 3-3 so I have no idea how home field would be determined if it was Mets vs Cards.

Blevins had nothing last night and the 3 run HR he served up was a hangar. Game over. They need to win today.

The 'Timeless Wonder' (aka Bartolo Colon) vs a rookie for the Braves. I like the Mets chances in this game. With the unbelievable number of injuries suffered by the Mets starting pitchers, Colon has been the one true constant and it is not hyperbole to say savior. I really like that man's ability to perform. -- Al

If you couldn't hear the "fat lady singing" it's because she was standing right in front of my television belting out her song as Ortiz hit another one over the fence. :redface2: Chris

What if the NL WC race ends in a 3-way tie, as it currently stands? From ESPN: Game 1, 10/3/16, Mets @ Cardinals, winner gets first WC spot and hosts the NL WC game on 10/5. Game 2, Loser of Mets/Cards goes to SF to play the Giants on 10/4. Winner of Game 2 plays at winner of Game 1, in Game 3 on 10/5. Loser of Game 2 is finished. Winner of Game 3 then will play the Cubs. Loser of Game 3 is finished.
A 3-way tie could effect the Mets like this: Final game of the season in Philly on Sunday 10/2. WC game in St.Louis on Monday, 10/3. If WC game lost, Mets would then go to SF for the next WC elimination game on Tuesday, 10/4. If Mets win in SF, they then go back to St.Louis to play in the final WC game on Wednesday, 10/5. If the Mets win against St. Loo on 10/5, they then go to Chicago to play the Cubs on Friday, 10/7. That is going to be brutal in terms of travel, being 5 games in four cities over 6 days. At least that's the way ESPN has it laid out in the event of a 3-way tie. -- Al

I guess you read the Jayson Stark piece. I thought it was decided based on season series results but I guess we'll have to wait and see what MLB says.

Bingo! The answer is to avoid losing any of the WC games.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Looks like the Red Sox have been busy while I've been traveling out to Chicago, not one but two 5-2 beatings of the LET'S GO 0'S!!, including a win over Cy Gascan last night, the same guy who was lights out last week at Fenway.

Keep it up boys, 11 games to go................

Quote of the night occurs when Fernando Rodney (he who can't wear his hat straight) comes in to pitch for Miami in the 8th, Nats announcer F.P. Santangelo says " If he turns that hat any further, it will look like Linda Blair is pitching." Rodney looks like a complete moron with his sideways cap. -- Al

I have always complained about that look. Felix Hernandez does it too.

Mets are about to be swept. Unbelievable.

Cards got slammed and the Giants trail. Could be status quo tonight for the WC. -- Al

They lost pretty badly tonight. Cespedes hit the ball over the wall and Inciarte brought it back. I'm not sure what I broke.
