Nats just clinched the NL East title, as they beat the Pirates for their 90th win, and the Mets fell just short in a comeback at Philly, losing 10-8 after trailing 10-0. It is the Nats 3rd title in 5 years, with a different manager each time. Now to see if they can get out of the first round of the playoffs for a change.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Woke up to a tragic story breaking in MLB as Miami Marlins All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez has been killed in a boating accident off Miami overnight. This is a real sad event, a huge loss for the Fernandez family, the Marlins and their fans, and MLB. He just beat the Nats 1-0 in what will become his last game this past Tuesday, Sept.20. A tragic loss, RIP Mr. Fernandez. -- Al

I just saw the Fernandez story. Couldn't believe it. He could have been one of the great ones. Just goes to reinforce my belief that life is precious and fragile and we can never take anything for granted.

O's come up big again and win 2-1 behind 5 good innings from Bundy and a shutdown bullpen. Detroit is trailing and O's could be up by a 1.5 games for the last WC spot. Good game in a must have (aren't they all at this point?) game. -- Al

They were playing a bad team.
Tomorrow's game against the Marlins could be difficult. It's hard to know how the Marlins will react. Will they want to win a game for Fernandez or just be in shell shock and not want to play.

Slowly but surely I have lowered my expectations for the Giants season. A few weeks ago I was sure that they would be able to challenge the Dodgers for the division, then I was sure that they would at least get the home Wild Card game. Now? I just want them to get the final playoff spot.
Little doubt that the Cards have the easier schedule for the final games and it looks like the last WC will be decided in the season ending SF vs LA series. All 6 of the Giants last games are at home. Let's hope they can take advantage. -- Al

Betances walked first 2 batters and commited an error without recording an out last night. Almost another choke job. The Yanks fortune and chances changed when Betances chose to lose all control and mastery of any of his pitches. Joba Chamberlain like, remember him...Not sure if Betances has the temperment to be a closer. He was lights out in the 7th inning role..OK, in the 8th, but has been Jeckle and Hyde as a closer. Michael

It hasn't helped that Clippard has hit a rough stretch. He was lights out when in DC but he usually had one bad stretch every year. It didn't last long, but he would get hit during his bad stretch. Just bad timing in NY. -- Al
The bleeping playoffs better get started while the Nats still have a team to put on the field. They're falling like autumn leaves. Strasburg is out with a bad elbow; Harper (starting RF) is out with a bad thumb; Murphy (team MVP) is out with a strained butt muscle and last night the starting catcher, Wilson Ramos (was having a career year) injured his right knee and is out. It was tough night for both teams, win or lose and as far as I was concerned the game was secondary.
The Marlins did a great job of paying tribute to their fallen friend and teammate. Also, the Met's proved that they are a first class organization by handling their side of it with grace.
