Baseball 2016 (3 Viewers)

Rough day for me. My plans to attend the Chicago show were canceled and then the Giants got crushed.

Looks like the Red Sox have been busy while I've been traveling out to Chicago, not one but two 5-2 beatings of the LET'S GO 0'S!!, including a win over Cy Gascan last night, the same guy who was lights out last week at Fenway.

Keep it up boys, 11 games to go................

Maybe there is a GOD and I ought to go to church more often. My hatred of the RS wanted them to lose O's and be knocked out of first, but here he has shown me his real plan. RS win division, only to be crushed in WC. O's and BJays lose most of last games and Yanks sneak into WC to crush RS. Last night, Rays hit 5 HR out of total 8 hits and LOSEEEEE to Yanks. Gotta be a sign, so lets go RS....ITS gods WILL to totally beat on George in the end^&grin..Michael

Hopefully that will work as well as the last theory you put out there ..... ^&grin

" My " lets go o's should be able to beat the RS since they are playing in a MLB ballpark and not a Little League field. Michael

And equally as well as last week's RS 4 game sweep beat-down of the MFYs. ^&grin

B.

Just covering for George while he's busy making big bucks in Chicago. :salute::

See the thing that MFY fans will never ever get is as a life long Red Sox fan who lived through 1967, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1986, I just assumed they would never win a WS in my lifetime.

Both of my grandfathers and two of my uncles died prior to 2004, never getting to see them win it.

So after the 2004 WS win, specifically the way they got to the WS by pulling off the greatest comeback in baseball history in the ALCS and doing it vs the MFY's, from there on out, anything that happened was a bonus.

So, 2007 and 2013 were just that, bonuses.

If they somehow get to the WS and lose to the Cubs or whoever; whatever, life goes on.

If they lose in the ALCS to the MFY's; NOTHING will ever change what happened in 2004.

THE greatest sports memory of my lifetime and nothing will ever top that one..........................

10 games to go and last night changed nothing in the NL WC race as all 3 teams lost. In the AL WC race, the O's have picked the wrong time to go into a tailspin. Like it has been all year, the starting pitching has been the achille's heel, but the offense has also played it's part in the recent slump. O's still have the 2nd WC, but only by 1 game and that can disappear at any time. Lots of pressure on Tillman tonight. Let's go O's! -- Al

Three E's by the O's in last night's game. {eek3} The Davis E on what would have been the last out of the inning, allowed an eventual 5 runs to score. :rolleyes2: Not a stellar night on defense or offense. Red Sox pitching has stumped the O's for three games. Chris

When it rains, it pours. Sure hope Tillman can salvage the last game tonight. It really has become a 'must win' game. -- Al

Sports talk in the Bay Area today is focused on the fact that if the Giants do make the playoffs as a Wild Card team Bumgarner would be pitching as the starter in his normal rotation spot.

That joy is of courser tempered by the fact that they still have to make the playoffs.

Certainly not the start to the game the O's were hoping for. Tillman only gave up 1 run but took 35 pitches doing it. At that rate the O's will be lucky to get 4 innings out of him. Hope he sharpens up. {sm2} -- Al

What a mess. Tillman lasts 1.2 innings, 63 pitches and leaves trailing 3-0 with the bases still loaded. How much uglier will this get? A disaster of a series for the O's, as all 3 of their aces failed to come through. Bad. -- Al

O's beaten again. Got to hand it to the Sox, taking 4 from NYY and 4 from the O's. They went and took it from us and NY, and have all but locked the division title up and maybe dealt a fatal blow to both NY and the O's. Time will tell, but the O's are fading just when they need to be surging. It's a shame to get to the last 2 weeks of the season and let it all slip away. O's aren't dead yet, but they need to find another gear or it's all over but the crying. -- Al

Somehow, incredibly, the Mets were able to make up a two run deficit in both the 9th and 11th innings to get off the deck and win 9-8. Losing four in a row would have been a killer. They will survive for another day.

It took close to 145 games, but the Red Sox finally got their act together; timely hitting, good starting pitching, solid bullpen.

Not counting my chickens yet, but if they make the playoffs, it will be interesting to see how far they go.

Sorry about the sweep Sammy, the first round tonight is on me.....................:wink2:

Fun with numbers: In the disaster that took place in Baltimore this week, the O's lost 4 games by the near identical scores of 5-2, 5-2, 5-1, and 5-3. No routs, but not really close either. Just an inadequate effort, from all aspects, pitching, hitting, and fielding. O's are now a half game out of the WC and with 9 games to go, they are obviously not dead, yet. Someone has to step up and lead the team to the playoffs, be it a pitcher or hitter. The team seems to be in a collective funk at exactly the wrong time. One might be tempted to blame Buck for the situation, but Buck hasn't been on the mound throwing bad pitches, or at the plate swinging and missing. Buck can only put the players out there and hope the job gets done. Truth is, Buck did a heck of a job this year, keeping this team in contention from start to finish, and he did it with a basically AA starting pitching staff. For 2/3 of the season, he has had one reliable pitcher, start after start, and that was Tillman (who may now be nursing an injury, based on recent performances). Buck had to mix and match bad pitchers from the get-go. It wasn't until after the All-Star break that Buck was able to help Tillman out as Gausman finally found his feet and Bundy proved up to the task of starting (although he is obviously now tired from being used so much this year, his first real major league action since 2012). Even these 2 pitchers still left Buck having to use choices that were less than adequate to fill out the other 2 rotation spots. The simple and obvious fact is that the O's tried to get through the season with an inadequate stable of stating pitchers and there is a good chance this will prove fatal to playoff hopes, barring a slight miracle in these last 9 games. It is also obvious that the O's front office will have to get at least one more good starting pitcher this off-season or next season could prove as much of a roller-coaster ride as this season has been. Now, I haven't given up on the O's chances this season, but it is also a truth that even if they get to the post-season, it is liable to be a short run because, once again, the all important starting pitching is a shambles. Anyway, that is my opinion, for all it's worth.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Mets kept a share of the first WC with a win that was hairy in the middle innings but gradually went their way. The starting pitching was a little rough but they managed to get through it.

An important win -- they're all important now with 8 games to go -- as they won't have Syndergaard tomorrow as he has strep throat.

The O's live. Trumbo's walk-off Hr (his 44th Hr of the year) gave the O's a win they had to have to remain a half game back in the WC race. Whew! -- Al

Well after wallowing in my misery for 3 plus days now be it stomach issues or Oriole play figure it was time to get back in the game sort of speak....speaking of which, my O's were picked to be one of the worst teams in all of baseball this year and be the AL East floor mat, well that hasn't been the case, in reality the O's kept a grip on first or 2nd place for a majority of the season, won a bunch of series and have played good ball with some hurdles along the way, at this point not sure if they will even be a wildcard being Tillman is hurting, Bundy has run of the gas, and the stellar relief pitching has become over used, with only a couple series left the season has been a tough one to watch as a O's fan esp. the 4 gamer against the Sox, that one I won't soon forget, maybe that was what started my stomach pains!! but in the grand scheme of things the O's certainly kept it interesting all season and hopefully a little fight left in them the last few series, be it either way my O's have had a good season and hopefully management can address some of the short comings they had as a team in 2016 and be more balanced in 2017...Sammy

To my good friend, George. Found this incident that actually happened at your ballpark. Little talked about by the faithful, but it ought illustrate a point.^&grin Congrats for a Division title:(..Michael

Sammy, you will be interested to know that the O's starting pitching was a main source of discussion/concern on the O's TV talk show this AM. The opinion amongst the 4 hosts was that Jimenez, (that's right, Ubado), is currently the best pitcher the O's have going. Various reasons were mention and talked about, such as Tillman's injury and Bundy's exhaustion, both of which you mention, and the apparent fact that Gausman is also hurt with some sort of intercostal injury (ribs). Tillman and Gausman hurt, Bundy way past his innings restriction (he has been ineffective in 4 of his last 5 starts, all innings past the point where the O's originally wanted to shut him down). Take away those 3 and that leaves Jimenez because Gallardo and Miley sure aren't it.:rolleyes2: Such is the state of the starting pitching. I won't give up but I must admit that I'm not optimistic at this point. Even so, as you point out, the O's have had a heck of a year, one to be proud of, and it ain't over yet. -- Al

O's back in the 2nd WC spot thanks to a brilliant game by Wade Miley, of all pitchers, who came within 1 out of a CG shutout in beating Arizona 6-1. 7 games to go and it's still on. -- Al
