The sad part is I think the Giants are going to need all the luck they can get!!! :)

On a serious note, big time congrats to George (Red Sox), Al (O's and Nats), Sammy (O's) and Brad (Mets).

I do hope that one of us wins it all.

Looking at the WC games, the home team doesn't do very well. In 2014 and 2015 the road teams won all the games. This doesn't bode well for tonight and tomorrow. We will just have to see.

Regarding the NL batting title, that's not the way you win a title. Reyes did that a few years ago and was heavily criticized. They should all follow the model of Ted Williams who in 1941 refused to sit out the last day of the season to guarantee himself a 400 average. They don't make them like Ted anymore. Now I sound like an old geezer but that's the way it should be done.

Quite agree about the batting title, as per my post #1198. Don't know who made the decision to sit him, manager or player, but it was a wuss decision either way. -- Al

I remember that when Reyes took himself out of the game after one AB, Collins was surprised.

Before the playoffs get underway I just wanted to give a mention to the retirement of Vin Scully.

Vin Scully is one of the very few people and/or personalities who actuality transcend the game of baseball and sport in general. His run as a broadcaster for the Dodgers will likely never be equaled and even if it was, the quality of his work can never be surpassed. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Yup, until the day they drop me in the ground, I'll always remember his call; "Little roller up along the bag...........and it gets by Buckner................AND THE METS WIN IT!!!"....................................

Speaking of the Mets, I watched the 30 for 30 Doc and Daryl........................yikes, what a pill popping, woman chasing, booze bag bunch those 1985-1990 Mets teams were..................no wonder they only won one WS and it took a miracle/massive choke job for that to happen.....................and Bill Maher is a part owner of the Mets?

Seriously?

And Wow did Strawberry hit some bombs, upper deck shots, shots off the scoreboard, what power he had, thin as a rail, no PED's, just incredible bat speed.

What an incredible talent he was............................

That toolbag?

Scully also called the greatest moment in 49er history, aka "The Catch"-Montana to Clark in the 1982 NFC Championship game.

My post got all jumbled; the toolbag is that wingnut Maher, not Strawberry...................immense talent, just had too many demons, doesn't make him a bad guy....................

They were a great team and the 86 is one of the great teams: 108 wins in the regular season. The Sox didn't choke, the Mets were a better team. Don't forget that if Buckner gets to the ball, it's still 5-5. With all that, the Sox had a chance to win it in game 7 but couldn't do it.

Yes, Straw was an incredible talent. He could hit some moon shots.

You've got 2004, 2007 and 2013. We've got 86.

Well, you can't really get any closer than extra innings in the play-in game. {eek3} -- Al

Somebody needs to 'splain to me why Ubado was in in the bottom of 11 instead of Britton. Ubado throws 5 pitches, gives up 3 hits and 3 runs, game over, season over. Too bad. If you are going to lose, you want to have your best chance on the mound, not your worst. Not Buck's finest moment. -- Al

So is Britton dead?

What on earth is Buck doing here bringing in his 12th best pitcher?

And it's over..................

wow.

I'm speechless; Al, you need to fill us in on why he didn't use Britton.

George, I have no earthly idea why Britton wasn't used in a sudden death situation like this. It's inexcusable and Buck is going to be explaining the heck out of this decision for the next 6 months. Just totally perplexing. The stream of words coming out of my mouth as Jimenez walked in from the bullpen cannot be repeated on this forum, but I just knew we were finished. -- Al

It's a crying shame to have the O's season end on this kind of note. I would feel bad regardless of how this loss came about but to have the season thrown away by a pitcher that has been incompetent for 75% of his games is a real tragedy, in sports terms. I could live with it if the Jays beat our best, Britton, but they beat our worst, Ubado, a pitcher that had NO business being in the game in that situation. Buck did an outstanding managerial job all season, mixing and matching a really sub-standard starting rotation, a MoY job in my opinion, until tonight's brain cramp. I will never understand this one. Jeeeez! -- Al

Well, been a wild, crazy, fun, painful, exciting ride for my 2016 O's, but not enough in the tank tonite to win, be it not enough runs, or lousy relief choices it goes as a loss, but as I said in past posts this season, my O's surprised a lot of people including me and won their share of games and it was nice to return to the post-season (although briefly) tip of the hat to my boys from Baltimore and before you know it the warm Sunshine of Florida will be calling for the first pitch of Spring ball!!!...Sammy

Not using Britton has to go down as one of the worst managerial decisions in baseball history. The Orioles players and fans truly deserved better.

I didn't get to see the game as they weren't showing it on the ship I'm on but a tough loss obviously. Sometimes it's hard to understand decisions managers make. However, I'm sure that if it comes down to a bullpen game tonight, Familia will get in. In fact, if it comes down to the bullpens, I would be delighted as the Mets pen is stronger than the Giants one.

Had the night to sleep on it, and, well, I still think not using Britton is THE STUPIDEST DECISION in Oriole history. I love Buck as our manager, but I will NEVER understand this move. The decision is being roasted by every baseball pundit I have watched or read. Of course, all the criticism is 20-20 hindsight, except for the O's fans who knew that this move would be fatal. After watching Jimenez "perform" all season, he was absolutely the wrong man at the wrong time and even the most fair-weather O's fan could have told Buck that. I just don't know what else to say or think. Blast. -- Al
