The Cubs have really forced Bumgarner to throw a lot of pitches, something the Mets did not do early. He threw 119 pitches in the WC and this may have softened him up for the Cubs. If the Cubs can get into the Giants pen, they have a good chance of ending this tonight.

After the game ended, virtually no one left the stadium, chanting Papi, Papi, Papi over and over.

After the Indians opened up cardboard boxes on the field and put on cheeseball hats and tee shirts celebrating their ALDS win and then went back into the clubhouse, Ortiz came back onto the field, went to the mound, tipped cap to the crowd to a two plus minute standing ovation. The crowd just roared and roared as he stood there taking it all in.

Quite a moment.

Thanks for the memories Papi, three WS titles and boatloads of memories.

Thanks for representing the Red Sox and the city of Boston, you were a great ambassador for the game.

Enjoy your retirement.

Well my team is out, but my second favorite team survived last night, 6-5, one of the craziest games I've ever seen.

Thought the Giants were toast when Arietta of all people hit a three run bomb off of Mad Bum, but the even year Giants pulled it out, unbelievable.

At this stage, its Giants as they are my second favorite team and for Jason, Nationals for Al and the city of DC as they deserve a WS title, Jays for Terry, Dodgers for Doug, Cubs for 108 years of frustration for Cubs fans ......................................................................................................................................................................................and Indians.

Terrific win for the Giants last night. I watched through 11 innings but threw in the towel at 2:05 AM. Quite a game with lots of twists and kudos to the Giants for not folding after that totally deflating,game-tying Cubs Hr in the 9th. Great win. -- Al

I went to bed when it was 3-1 and figured it was over so a great comeback for the Giants. I still think the Cubs will win but at least it's a series, unlike the games in the junior circuit.

In an indication of the importance of this afternoons game 4, LA is starting Kershaw on 3 days rest. The Nats are starting Joe Ross, who missed half the season on the DL and rejoined the club in September and pitched in only 3 shortened starts. Sounds like a mismatch but we'll have to see what short rest means to Kershaw. -- Al

It doesn't bode well for the Dodgers. Since baseball’s wild-card playoff system was invented in 1995, pitchers starting playoff games on three days’ rest or less are 35-40 with a 4.35 ERA. When their team is facing elimination, those harried pitchers are 9-18 with a 4.34 ERA.

The Dodgers have been a playoff disaster for over twenty years now. Kershaw has never been effective in the post season. The Nats seem equally cursed though. An underachieving team. I think whoever survives is doomed as doomed can be in the next round as Ed Grimley would say. So it probably doesn't matter much who gets to the next round.

Yeah, because the Cubs and their 108 years of buffoonery are a lock to advance to the WS.

Then need to get past the Giants first.....................

Wow....108 years...and hear I'm pissed about not getting back to the WS since '83!!

I'm listening to the post mortems today on talk radio; the whole misery loves company routine.

I feel worse listening to people vent their spleens.

FWIW, just some random thoughts;

Sorry, the Red Sox were the better team, their high powered offense should have rolled this team. The stooge who pitched last night had an ERA over 11 in August, he looked like Cy Young last night as the Red Sox just took strike after strike.

And speaking of which, their approach at the plate sucked this series; they took an amazing 46 first strikes this series; you're basically playing from behind every inning but one, so swing the bat. I've never seen a team chase so many breaking balls in the dirt, it was infuriating to watch such a piss poor approach at the plate.

They got beat by Coco Effing Crisp, he of the 208 batting average this season. Have to be honest, I thought he was out of baseball, but nope, there he is last night bunting two runners over who both scored as the next batter ripped a single, then he hits a two run bomb over the monster that iced the game. Just unbelievable.

Francona was playing chess all series long, our manager (who got the vote of confidence by the GM today; "He'll be our manager in 2017".........gee, just swell) was playing checkers.

The Red Sox were 3-21 with RISP, had ZERO innings where they scored more than one run; pathetic, considering the Indians were missing two of their three best starters.

And for the love of God, who is the radio play by play guy for the Indians; on the Crisp home run, I swear the guy literally **** his pants. Dial it down dude, it's the ALDS, not the clinching game of the World Series.

The Indians certainly were a loose bunch, laughing and whooping it up in the dugout all series long; good for them. I predict Toronto is absolutely going to steamroll this team, five games max; that said, I'm sure the immortal Lonnie #$$%ing Chisenhall is going to hit five home runs in the series and Coco Crisp will play out of his mind and the Cleveland Indians, who haven't won a WS since the Truman administration, will punch their ticket to the WS...........................................:rolleyes2:

I am still trying to get over last night's win. What a game. I hope that it carries over to tonight.

I'd be ticked off too George. Too bad Ortiz' career ended that way. A Red Sox series vs any of the remaining NL teams would have been great.

One of the theories as to why the bats were cold was the players were pressing trying to win the series for Ortiz.

I don't buy it.

I can take losing to the 67 Cardinals, 75 Reds, 78 Yankees, 86 Mets, 88 and 90 A's, 95 Indians, 99 MFY's and the 09 White Sox as those were all better teams; losing to the Indians and that punch and judie line up and mediocre starting pitching is infuriating.

The Nationals have tied up the Dodgers 2-2. The Nationals just keep coming at you.................

Today, I think of "The green fields of the mind" and it bums me out.

Like Sammy says; Spring training jump starts us all, the days get warmer, the grass grows again, the winter is gone and hope is in the air.

Now it's the fall, the air is crisp (great, another reminder of that has been tomato can Coco), the days are shorter, another missed opportunity and winter is coming.

What a nutpunch of a day.

But it probably seems like 108 years :wink2:

Truer words never spoken...I try my best not to be a fair weather fan and every Spring brings me the new hope of a World Series return, but '83 was a long time ago, a Junior in High school, under the the 1st Reagan administration, playing all kinds of sports and thinking after we beat Philly "wow, this team is loaded for the next decade!! boy was I wrong!!!!!!!!! :)...Sammy

The Nats pitcher, Ross, just isn't up to this. He hasn't been stretched out since coming off the DL and has not been able to get into any rhythm. He's just not sharp enough yet. But Dusty loves him, so he gets the start. If Strasburg was healthy, Ross probably doesn't make the post-season roster. :rolleyes2: -- Al

At least you got your Pats, my Ravens can't beat a soft Redskin team {eek3} and today I'm putting up my Fall/Halloween decor with temps in the mid 90's :mad: wish I had some cool temps!!
