The Cubs are like a character actor in some long running TV show that should never play another role. They are who they are.

Man oh man, this is brilliant on so many levels, this describes them perfectly; and I'm stealing this to use elsewhere, but I'll pay you a dime everytime I use it.........:wink2:

Barring a miracle, the Tribe are heading to the WS for their first time in almost 20 years. They might be better off if the ALCS goes 5 games so they don't have to sit around too long waiting for the start of the WS.

My son is happy about the Indians but I am rather stunned at the way they have handled the Jays. If the Indians square off against the Cubs in the WS, it will mean someone winning that I have never witnessed winning a WS, seeing as how Cleveland last won in '48 and I feel pretty safe stating that no one on this forum remembers the Cubs winning. But that is all speculation as the Jays aren't dead yet, and LA certainly has as good a chance as the Cubs of winning through to the series. -- Al

My Mother wasn't even alive when the Cubs won. Of course, she was a Giants fan and saw when they beat the Indians in 54. I was alive then but my recollection is very poor.

Yeah, neither my wife's or my parents had been born either. John Wayne was about a year and a half old when the Cubs won, but I doubt he cares now. Anyway, 108 years is a long stretch without a WS title, but it would be a pity to ruin such a streak.^&grin -- Al

Back in the early 20s (my Mother was born in 1922), my Mother's youngest Aunt (there were four sisters) lived near Yankee Stadium. Back then the Bronx was a very nice and fashionable area to live. I think it was after WW II that the area started to go downhill somewhat, although I think the area has now recovered some of its old glory.

Clevelands pitching has been other worldly in the post season; in 54 innings, the opponent has yet to score more than ONE run in any inning, absolutely unbelievable, especially considering from what I've read, they are down 2 of their best pitchers and a third one almost bled to death on the mound last night.

You know it's Clevelands year when the starter can't get out of the first inning and they stick some no name tomato can in there and he mows down the Jays like he's Bob Gibson, it's mind boggling how they've pitched.

The Cubs or the Dodgers don't stand a chance vs the Indians, they are destined to win their first World Series since the Truman administration; how ironic that the loaded teams they had in the mid 1990's couldn't get it done and this rag tag band of nobodies (Lonnie Chisenhall, fill in the blank Perez, the corpse of Coco Crisp) is going to win a WS.........................

That's sports for you.

Don't look now but the Dodgers are up 3-0 in game 3 and could very well be up 2-1 in the series after tonight.

Jake Arietta is who the Orioles thought he was, he sucked tonight, that second home run he gave up is about to land in three, two, one...........................

Hmm, he was 18-8 this year. Not too shabby. He had a bad game tonight, plus Cubs aren't hitting.

What we have now is a series. The Cubs are too good to go down 3-1.

On June 17th, Arrieta won his 11th game to run his record to 11-1 with a 1.74 ERA. From that point he went 7-7 with an ERA over 4. Something changed. Maybe he just got tired after the run he had. -- Al

Panic and angst in the streets of Chicago...

The looks on the Cubs fan faces in the crowd tonight; 108 years and counting..............they looked like if any of them ate a piece of charcoal, they'd crap out diamond.

They looked like any other fans who are favored to win and have hit a bump. I saw the same look in Fenway as the Indians swept the Red Sox.

Yes, that monkey on their back is becoming a gorilla. They are still in good shape though if they win the next game.

Chicago needs to face the truth. If the Cubs can't win the series with the stacked team they have this year, they will never win it. Call it whatever curse you want, the goat, Bartman, whatever, this year's team is built to win and if they don't, it's never going to happen. They may as well pack it in and move the team to Las Cruces. :rolleyes2: -- Al

You must have been looking at different people than I did; the Red Sox have gotten over that hump.

Not once, not twice, but three times; we no longer have that "look" of here we go again, same old Red Sox, them bums, they're never going to win it.

It was more a look of disgust that the no name Indians were going to win the series.

And the no name Indians had better finish off Toronto today; if those big bats wake up and the series heads back to Cleveland..................ruh roh.

We'll see how far a two man bullpen can carry a team.

I don't really think that's the issue Al. Due to the playoff system we have, it's not the best team that always wins the World Series but the team that's playing best. The Cubs were obviously the best team during the regular season but have not played that well so far.

A team that's close to my heart, the 1988 Mets, were the best team in baseball that year or at least the National League. They had beaten the Dodgers 11 out of 12 times. They were the odds on favorites to go to the World Series. Unfortunately, the Dodgers played better, riding Hersheiser to the title.

This series will be a test for the Cubs character, just as it was for the Mets in 1986 :wink2: Great teams will come to the fore and they do have the potential to be a great team.

This is why I love baseball; October baseball is different than April or August baseball. The spotlight shines brighter, some players shrink in the moment, others rise to the occasion and embrace it.

And on a side note, A-Rod is spectacular in the studio before and after the games, he's a natural, he's tremendous. Pete Rose murders me, he's a laugh a minute. Last night he said Maddon should take the Cubbies to the Cincinnati Zoo and A-Rod said "The game is in LA Pete" and Rose was all flustered, A-Rod and Frank Thomas were killing themselves laughing.

A-Rod is great at this, keep up the good work.....................
