Cleveland wasn't on my radar most of the season and here they are in the WS. Miller is about as hot as a pitcher can get. Congrats to the Tribe for coming out of the shadows and taking the AL. Las Vegas is probably going nuts. -- Al

Without the Miller trade, Cleveland isn't going anywhere, so kudos to the Cleveland front office for pulling off that trade; deadline deals make or break teams, put borderline teams over the hump and this is clearly what happened here.

No Miller, no WS for Cleveland, what a weapon. This guy sucked when he was with Boston, mediocre at best, then he goes elsewhere and pitches like a first ballot HOF lock.

Cubs have blown the doors off on this one. The Dodgers' challenge is not to blow out the bullpen. The Cubs are in good position with Lester going tomorrow.

Yeah, the hand-wringing in Chicago is being temporarily suspended, depending on how Lester does in the next game.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It's a critical game for both teams as Cubs don't want to have to face Kershaw down 3-2 and I'm sure Dodgers feel the same about facing Hendricks. I believe the Dodgers will be going back to Chicago down 3-2.

In some weird way, I think the longer this series goes and the tighter it gets advantages the Dodgers. The Cubs have the weight of the world on them. You can almost sense the gloom descending in Chicago when things start going south. It's here we go again time like when that poor guy grabbed the foul ball a few years ago. Home field advantage becomes a death trap when the crowd gets nervous and senses disaster. If the Dodgers force a game seven it will be interesting. The Cubs better get out in front or it is nail chewing time. Because Chicago really is the better team they should win but those gremlins are still out there.

Just saw that a game-used bat of 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson went for $583,500 K at auction. One of only 2 game-used bats of Jackson's known to exist, it was also the only one to have his name in script on the bat. -- Al

Both the Jays and Cleveland have good starting rotations (I think Toronto has the edge) and good bullpens (I think Cleveland has the edge) The difference is in the hitting. Toronto has a home run team while Cleveland has a running team. Remember the Bill James analysis of home run teams vs running teams. The key to the series is whether the Jays can hit a bunch of homers. If they do, they will beat Cleveland by a bunch. If the Jays just strike out a lot, Cleveland will win the series on close scoring games.

Terry

Unfortunately, the Jays series went as expected. Only one HR and the Jays won that game but no HR in the other four games and the Jays lost all four close, low scoring games.

Now that Toronto is out, I would like to see the Cubs win the World Series. I love the sound of really old records breaking. ^&grin

LOL. "Is this heaven? No, it's Cleveland." I know a few people who might take exception to that statement. I doubt anyone has ever confused 'The Mistake By the Lake' with heaven.{eek3}{sm3} But it is shaping up to be a nice year for Clevelanders. :wink2: -- Al

From what I have heard, Cleveland is a nice place these days and supposed to be very livable.

Onto the NL, tomorrow is a big game for Kershaw, in order to make his name as a big game pitcher. Although you never want to go to game 7, Cubs have the luxury of being able to afford to lose this one (although that would mean Arrienta in game 7 and as Al noted a few days ago, his record has been mediocre lately).

I'm just needling Cleveland. My son lives there and says it is just like most other cities, nice in areas, not so nice in some others.
Game 6 is no shoe-in for LA and Kershaw. As you say, Kershaw has to prove himself in post-season and the Cubs will be throwing Hendricks. Should be a good game. If they go to 7, Arrieta vs Hill, and I think LA has a slight edge because of Arrieta's prolonged slump. Hill hasn't been bad and could be the difference for LA. -- Al

Every time I think of Cleveland in the World Series I think about the movie Major League:

Jake Taylor: I play for the Indians.
Chaire Holloway: Here in Cleveland? I didn't know they still had a team!

I'll bet 1,000.00 prior to game one in Cleveland, Charlie Sheen will throw out the first pitch.

Who else is Cleveland going to trot out there? LeBron so he can make another speech? Some random 85 year old who was alive the last time the Indians won the World Series?

If the Cubs don't blow the NLCS, be prepared for non stop references to the Curse of the Billy Goat, 1908, 1948, 1945, Bull Durham's error, Steve Bartman, Theo Epstein and Tito Francona winning one together in 2004, now they're on opposite sides of the field, which loser fan base is going to finally be able to celebrate a WS win......................ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz..........................no thanks.

I read on ESPN where Charlie Sheen had offered to throw out the first pitch but MLB said no, that the choices had already been made. Former Cleveland 'greats' have been chosen, although the names haven't been released yet. No clue who is up but it would be neat to see Tiant or McDowell throw one out. -- Al

Kershaw is struggling....62 pitches in 3 innings, 3-0 Cubs, if the Dodgers can't find some runs Kershaw he will not be the savior tonite.

And thus my baseball watching for 2016 will end.

Have fun everyone watching the World Series, keep me posted on which team is no longer a loser and which team still wears the crown for longest WS title drought once it's over..................

I'm in..I watched the long overdue Red Sox title win in my life time so hoping to see the Cubbies win it all and kill the 108 year run, out of all the "Cubs haven't won stories since yada, yada" my favorite has been the Titanic hadn't even been built yet!!!...Sammy

Yep, La looks DOA. Kershaw goes bust in another big post-season game. Cubs lead 5-0 after 5 and LA only has one hit. Now, with the Cubs (in all probability) and Cleveland in the WS, all we have to worry about is a snow-out or two. Maybe MLB has a plan to switch to an orange baseball in the event of a whiteout. :rolleyes2: -- Al
