Baseball 2016 (2 Viewers)

As a rule, the Nats tended towards long games all season. It just got worse during the playoffs. Games 5 was 4.5 hours and game 4 was also 4+ hours. Good games but much too long. Way too many delays involving reviews and the big culprit, the 2.5 million pitching changes. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I now see why Baker has lost 8 (soon to be 9) straight elimination games. This 7th inning debacle is a classic case of overthinking/overmanaging. Jeesh. Baker will be responsible for the new off-season rule by MLB limiting pitching changes to 2 in an inning. -- Al

Bochy did the same thing in 9th inning of game 4 against the Cubs. The only difference is that he has 3 World Series rings on his resume.

George!!!! get you're dam feet off the couch!!! Brad, Jason slide over a little!! come on Al, plenty of room on the couch with the rest of us now that the Nats are out :)...just kiddn!!!!!!!!!! got to say since the Cleveland Cavs. won their NBA title this year since the Lincoln admin. I guess I'll pull for the Cubs now, what 108 years since a WS title?? and then for the tri-fector maybe the Lions will win the Superbowl for the most unusual year in the history of all sports. ^&grin...Sammy

Those 3 rings certainly entitle Bochy to an off-day now and then. 3 rings buys a lot of good will.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

The Lions and the Cubs winning titles in the same year? You just know the earth will get hit by a comet if the Cubs and Lions win. Maybe just one of them, and we will get a near miss. Don't want to tempt fate.:rolleyes2: -- Al

We're going to need a new couch; if you had told me after the two WC play in games and the AL and NLDS that Brad, Al, Jason, Sammy, Chris and myself would be out, I'd have asked you what color the sky is in your world (oh wait, Gebs too as he's a big LET'S GO O'S!! fan, Dumbo is his favorite player, right Gebs?).............................

So, evidently Cleveland has a baseball team, and a pretty good one, it seems. Shutting out Toronto is no small feat. -- Al

Toronto had chances early to break the game open, but couldn't get the big hit, Cy Young pitched in and out of trouble and the 1927 Yankees went on to beat Toronto 2-0.

Go get em tomorrow, take the series home tied 1-1......................

I'll watch baseball with all of you anytime, no matter who is playing.

Very good friend of mine lives in Cleveland and an Indians fan, so they're my post season team now. :wink2: Chris

George's post reference to Cy Young vs the 1927 Yankees got my curiosity piqued so I went to the Baseball Almanac. Cy Young pitched for Cleveland but when they were in the National League (I didn't know that). Of course, he had retired by 1911; he also pitched for both Boston teams. So then, who was the best pitcher in 1927? Four of the top five in the AL were Yankees: Wilcey Moore, Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock and Urban Shocker. In the NL, Dazzy Vance and Jesse Petty (never heard of him) of the Dodgers were among the best as was Charlie Root of the Cubs. So, if the modern version of the 27 Yankees make it to the WS they may be facing a Dazzy Vance or a Charlie Root.

Chris, I'm kind of in the same boat. My son lives in Cleveland and is pulling for the Tribe so I guess I kind of will too. Just tough for me to go against the AL East. That and the fact I know nothing about the Indians, other than Miller, makes it a tough choice for me. :redface2: -- Al

Well, it's pretty obvious why the Tribe traded for Miller. The Indians' bullpen reminds me of last year's Royals bullpen. Very difficult to hit against.

That down and in slider is unhittable!

Cleveland pitching smothered the Jays again. Never would have figured this. Can it be Cleveland will make it to the series? Good story, even if I never saw it coming. -- Al

Urban Shocker=best name ever

Brilliantly pitched game by the Dodgers. I think it wil be a very tight series. The Cubs haven't overly impressed; they didn't exactly blow the Giants away and with a better Giant pen it could have gone the other way. I will be pulling for the Dodgers. Maybe a black cat will run onto the field at Chavez Ravine.

I expected at most one win from the Dodgers in this series. So anything from this point on is an added bonus. Without Kershaw pitching they probably don't win a game. In some sadistic way, though, I would like to see the Cubs continue their 100+ year losing streak. The Cubs are like a character actor in some long running TV show that should never play another role. They are who they are.

It's not being sadistic. You're rooting for your team. Although it's no 108 years, your team hasn't won in almost 30 years.
