The GM had to come to the manager's defense today. Yesterday, Terry said winning yesterday's game was a must win, he used a reliever who he's been using but only had surgery two years ago and pitched Familia two innings after a couple of outings in a row. He may be panicking because the expectations are high and the team isn't hitting and the Nationals are off to a fast start.

If they continue to flounder, a change in manager wouldn't surprise me.

Bryce Harper hit career Hr #100 today and it was also his 1st career GS. It was his 2nd game winning hit of the Atlanta series as the Nats won the game 6-2, sweeping the Braves and are now 7-1 on the season, the best start in Nats history. I think the last time a DC club had a better start was in the early 50's. -- Al

I see my favorite pitcher, the former Nat, Jordan Zimmermann, beat the NYY 4-0 for Detroit in his 1st start. I sure wish the Nats had seen fit to resign this man. -- Al
My man, Zimm, won his 2nd game today with 6 shutout innings against the Pirates. He hasn't allowed a run this season. I sure wish the Nats had seen fit to resign this man.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al:

It is always painful when your team loses a player and then he excels somewhere else.

We can all commiserate with you on that!

I think Zimm got caught in the money numbers game. The Nats signed Scherzer for big bucks last season. Zimm went FA this season and Strasburg goes FA after this season. The figuring being that the Nats couldn't sign both Zimm and Stras after laying out so much for Scherzer, so they let Zimm walk with the hope of signing Stras. We'll see how that works out.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Hmmmmm...2 quick losses for my O's, I liked last week better!
Odd game. Tillman was cruising, looked sharp and showed no signs of problems through 5 innings. Then someone threw a switch and the whole game went south in the space of 1/3 of the 6th inning. Bang, bang, bang, Tillman gives up 5 runs before Buck can say boo. Odd game for Tillman. -- Al

You really can't make much of fast starts or slow starts (unless you're the Twins) after one week of baseball. Pennants aren't won in April although they can be lost in April.

Quality pitching when Beltre had to ask for a break as he was laughing so hard ..........

Great early season match-up again tonight as the Giants play in LA with Bumgarner going against Kershaw for the second time in less than a week.

O's trailed Texas 5-1 into the 7th when the bats came alive. O's have laid a 9 spot on the Rangers, including 4 Hr's (2 by Trumbo), all in the 7th, and now lead 10-5. Those boys can bop.{sm3} -- Al

I like that feeling. You are watching a game, your team is losing so you give up and decide to fight another day only to turn the game back on and find out that they came back!!!!!

So right Jason, but I believe with this line up the HR's could come fast and furious at anytime, just not much wiggle room for pitchers to pitch around, I'm not sure what the team record is for HR's in a season is, but if the O's can keep smacking at this pace they may give it a good chase...Sammy

Red Sox fans were screaming when Dombrowski traded a bunch of top tier prospects for Kimbrel, who aside from the bomb he gave up to Davis the other night has been filthy, as in a lights out closer.

Price as come as advertised as well, the offense is doing well too so far..................

I see "Oh No Trumbo" butchered another ball in right tonight, turning a single into a two run triple; maybe the LET'S GO O'S!! can petition the league to have two DH's in the lineup and go with two outfielders from now on.

My favorite MFY A-Roid is hitting a buck so far this year, ie, about .100, including a delicious 0-5 today with 3 K's.............don't ever change A-Roid...........................

Nats are off to a fast start at 9-1. I temper this with the knowledge that they are playing teams they (and most others) should be beating, ie., Atlanta and Philly. None the less, they are still hitting on all cylinders so far. The schedule doesn't really get any tougher until the end of the month so hopefully the Nats will continue to beat up on the weaker teams until the opposition stiffens. Good hitting, pitching, and fielding (which was an early season weakness last season) have combined to lead to the 9-1 record. Harper leads the majors with 14 RBI's while the team ERA is 1.98 and they have allowed only 1 unearned run. After last year's debacle, it is nice to see the hot start under Dusty Baker. -- Al

Mets are off to a very poor start and Harvey has been terrible and now DeGrom is on the DL, actually the bereavement list, but will probably go on the DL. If they get too far behind, they could be in trouble, particularly if the Nats run away and hide, which it seems they may be doing.

A poor start only because of run production. The pitching hasn't been bad (although I'm surprised at Harvey's start) and if run production picks up the ship will right itself. Harvey might just be a slow starter and Syndergaard, Colon, and deGrom have been as advertised. Hopefully deGrom's situation comes out ok. That's a tough thing to have to go through for a family. -- Al

Al, DeGrom had strained his back and there was a possibility he might have had to go on the DL anyway. All of these pitchers, but particularly Harvey and DeGrom, pitched more innings than they have ever have and the effects could be telling.

Brad, I didn't realize deGrom had an injury to go with the family emergency. Good point about the heavy innings count from last season. Only time will tell on that but I hope no real damage has been done. Rival or not, the Mets staff is fun to watch (as long as they're playing anyone but the Nats:wink2:). -- Al
