Baseball Hot Stove 2015-2016 (1 Viewer)

His value is diminished because of his run ins with the law. However, I'm surprised that the Reds basically gave him away. The only plus is that he's no longer in the National League.

The Red Sox got arguably the #2 rated closer in baseball for four prospects, three of which are blue chip and the Yankees got the #1 rated closer for four guys who in about three years will be asking you if you want fries with that.

Cashman must have relatives that were either carpet baggers or are the same ones who stole all the land out west from the indians for bags of magic beans.

George, you have to remember that the bargain (aka big time steal) is part of NY blood from the get go. The whole island only cost $26 to start with, so the NYY's are only continuing a grand tradition. One thing for sure, Boston, NYY, and the O's are all going into next season with outstanding bullpens. -- Al

while you are talking about the Yankees, look at what all those wonderful long term contracts have got them. they don't have a legitimate starting pitcher and they have a core of geriatric players(Texeira, Beltran, Rodriguez and their returning pitcher with a knee brace who is all washed up even if he had two knee braces).
Yankee fans should go to sleep till 2017 when these guys are finally gone
thank you George S.

Bet you said that last year when the Yankees got to the playoffs. If you were sleeping the season out, then I can understand you missing out. Michael

Dodgers signed Scott Kazmir the other day which means there is a distinct possibility that the Dodgers will start the 2016 with a starting rotation of 5 left-handers, Kershaw, Kazmir, Woods, Anderson, and Ryu. I have no idea if this has ever been done before but it sure is a risk considering the preponderance of right-handed hitters. Obviously, righty or lefty hitters doesn't matter much to Kershaw but the other 4 aren't Kershaw. It will be something to keep an eye on if 5 lefties do start. -- Al

Joe and Evan discussed this on WFAN in NY yesterday and it seems that the 1954 Senators and the 2013 White Sox had four left handers.

In both cases those teams had 4 left-handed starters with the 5th man a right-hander. And in both cases, the teams were big losers. The 54 Nats went 66-88 (their staff was led by Bob Porterfield, a RHP) and the 2013 White Sox went 63-99 (with 2 RHP combining as the 5th starter). At any rate, the predominant LHP rotation didn't work to advantage. Neither of these staffs had a Kershaw type pitcher, unless you rank Chicago's Chris Sale up there with Kershaw. It will be interesting but history suggests it won't succeed really well. -- Al

Alex Gordon will not be a Giant as he is going to re-sign with the Royals. Cespedes appears to be out too as he does not want to return to the West Coast.

It was rumored last week that the White Sox and Orioles were interested in Cespedes. Where that stands I do not know. Perhaps the Tigers will sign him.

HOF Announcements in less than two hours.

Griffey is a shoo in. Based upon publicly available ballots, Piazza stands a very good chance of getting in, with Bagwell and Raines good possibilities.

Bummer. Only 2 voted in. The voting system is a wreck and needs to be overhauled. Griffey and Piazza well deserving but so were others. -- Al

Griffey was on 437 of 440 ballots. Who are the three that did not vote for him??????

Great news about Mike, one of the greatest catchers ever. I remember a shot he hit against the Braves in the 1999 NLCS. I think that ball is still traveling.

Out of the others, the only one I would have liked to see go in is Raines. The others don't convince me but I'm sure they will get their due.

I couldn't stand him when he was his Dodger but he deserves a tip of the cap and his trip to the HOF. He is one one the greatest hitting catchers of all time.

I was out of town (and away from the Forum) for a few days, so I can't believe that there is no chatter here about the Brewers 'steal' of the off-season. Chris Carter (and your .199 batting average), welcome to Milwaukee. Right now you are the best player we've picked up, so we expect you to have a breakout year and bat at LEAST .220! Now we have hope for 2016!!

Sheesh...

Brewers will probably be thrilled with .220 if he can supply 25-30 Hr's and 80 rbi's. -- Al

Storen to Jays, Revere to Nats
This should be an excellent trade for both teams. I'm very happy Storen has gotten out of DC, not because I don't like him (he was one of my favorite Nats), but because the Nats has screwed him over so many times that he was no longer effective for the Nats. I wish him great success in Toronto, except when playing the O's or Nats.:wink2: Revere fills a huge need for the Nats as both a lead-off hitter and a left-handed hitter. He is not a power man but he is an OBP man. He should do nicely. -- Al
