He can apply for reinstatement in a year but has to serve two years so he couldn't come back until sometime in 2018.

Too bad he's not a lefty, he could sit out a few years and then pitch until he was 102 years old like Jesse Orosco.

Howe was a specialty LHP, and thus was given numerous chances at a career. He was suspended 7 different times because of drug and alcohol abuse. He was killed at 48 years of age when he rolled his pickup truck. He was DUI of meth. -- Al

What is the latest locally on Strasburg's new contract? ESPN is reporting that there have not been any talks between the Nats and Boras?

Jason, the Nats have signed a 1 year contract worth $10.4 mil with Strasburg to avoid arbitration and to take him to his FA after 2016. Both sides say no contract extension talks will go on during the season, so Strasburg will hit FA, as Boras has always wanted. -- Al

Al/Brad:

Thanks for the info. MLB Network is saying that he needs to have a near Cy Young winning type of year in order to get the money Boras wants as his numbers were mediocre even with one of the best offensive lineups in baseball backing him up.

This whole drama will be interesting to say the least.

Jason, Strasburg's overall numbers for last season are a bit deceiving as he was battling health issues up until the All-star game. He had 13 starts with 61 IP, and a 5-5 records with a 5.16 ERA prior to the All-star game. He got healthy after the break and had 10 starts with 66 IP, a 6-2 record with a 1.90 ERA, till the end of the season. We are hoping to see a healthy season out of Strasburg in 2016. -- Al

This probably started because Harvey, one of his clients, said he would be open to signing an extension with the Mets. I'm sure that Boras has read or will read him the riot act.

Bad news for the Nats is that Harper is a Boras client. Actually, any team that has a Boras player is bad news for the team; the Mets have two: Harvey and Conforto, who is going to be a big star.

Apologies for the stupid question, but are we going to keep going with this thread for the season or start a new one with a different title that goes beyond the off season signings etc.?

My opinion is just keep this thread going. It's all baseball and it just morph's from pre-season to regular season. -- Al

As is custom, we can start a new one when the season starts, with apologies to Al.

If the consensus of those who come here most often is otherwise then we will keep it going.

I am in either way, just checking as I look forward to a great season and coinciding thread.

They finally have an anchor for the staff. Got $35 mil for 3 years. I expect big things for the 2016 O's.:wink2: -- Al

Now if the baseball Gods allow Dylan Bundy to remain healthy and Harvey Hunter to pan out as a legit big leaguer then man we may really have a solid pitching/relief squad for a change!!...Sammy

Bundy is a huge question mark. O's have hung in there with him through all the injuries and now he has to produce. They can't send him down again because he has to clear waivers, which he wouldn't, so he must stay with the 25 man roster if they don't want to lose him. Sure would like to see him pan out and have a great spring. If he doesn't...:rolleyes2: -- Al

Well so far so good for Bundy, he had a good winter throwing here in Arizona and has been cleared to go full speed in Spring training so we shall see, I'm pulling for the guy as he has been through a lot in these last 3 years...Sammy

The Las Vegas WS odds are out: Cubs are 4-1 to win it; Astros are 10-1; Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, Giants, and Nats are all 12-1. Those are the favorites, for what it's worth. -- Al

I have seen different odds, again for what it's worth.

Going into spring training, my top 5 teams in this order are Cubs, Mets, Cards, Royals and Astros.
