Sammy, that figure has been kicking around the DC rumor mill since before the end of last season, coupled with a 20 year contract. If Harper has a 2016 anywhere near his 2015 season, the $400 mil figure may be short.{eek3} Maybe part ownership...:rolleyes2: -- AlWow..Harper tells newspaper "don't sell me short" on a 400 million dollar contract{eek3}{eek3} why stop there,??? just ask for a cool billion and call it even, unfing real...Sammy

Sorry Louis but as a diehard Yankee fan, you're biased and frankly I'm not even sure where you came up with that number. If you have some factual basis, then lay it on us. There's no doubt that the Yankees have more fans in the area but the gap is probably not that wide and, yes, the casual fans matter because they buy tickets and merchandise, etc. too.
We can look for another Mets year this year. Get ready to play second fiddle little bro ^&grin
The closest thing I could find as to an accurate poll was one commissioned by Quinnipiac College in 2014, whose polls tend to be pretty accurate in elections. See Yankees vs Mets: The Battle for New York's Heart.
It showed that in a hypothetical subway series, 59% would root for the Yankees and 37% for the Mets, which seems more or less accurate, considering the Yankees' success and the Mets lack of it. Interestingly, the better the Mets did (as in 2006, the last time they went to the playoffs, until 2015), the more the numbers tend to narrow, which follows conventional wisdom that fans will flock to a winner.

I just read your poll. It said the Yankees fans outnumbered the Mets fans 61% to 27% overall (the remainder pulling for teams outside of New York), with the Yankees owning a 76% to 15% lead in the Bronx, and even holding a 50% to 43% lead in Queens. If you add the percentage or Yankees ad Mets fans together to make the total fan base of both teams 100%, then the Yankees have 70% of the total Yankees-Mets fan base, the Mets 30%, a lot closer to my estimate than to your 55-45 or 60-40 estimate.
According to this NY1-Marist Poll, more than six in ten baseball fans citywide — 61% — cheer for the Bronx Bombers while 30% root for the Metropolitans (the rest support non-NY teams). Nine percent support neither team. - See more at: http://maristpoll.marist.edu/330-mo...season-mets-not-so-much/#sthash.wbnCSqNs.dpuf
The Wall Street Journal recently ran a survey that consisted of 650 males and females across all five New York City boroughs. The survey showed that sixty percent said that they followed the New York Yankees, while 33% said they follow the New York Mets. The rest support non-NY teams.
Under all of these polls, then considering only the Yankees and Mets fans, the Yankees own between 67 and 70% of the Yankees-Mets fan base, the Mets between 33 and 30% of the fan base.
I would bet my life savings this guy ends up on the Yankees.
I can hear the armored truck starting up now in New York, on it's way to Boras the stooges house.
It's 100% in the bag.
I look forward to him striking out when it matters most and Price doing the good morning, good afternoon and goodnight to him on a continual basis.
Can't wait.
Whatever makes an insecure Yankee fan happy amigo :rolleyes2:
All I know is you'll be looking up at the Mets in the standings. Ponder that.
Cool your jets, NYY fans. I have it on good authority that Harper is staying in DC for the rest of his career. I have heard that the White House is being re-addressed as 1600 Harper Ave., while DC is to be granted statehood as the 51st state with the name of BAMHarper. Plus, I hear Harper will be getting a substantial raise equal to the DMV GNP to go with ownership shares in the Redskins, Nationals, Capitals, and Wizards. Nope, Harper is staying right here. :rolleyes2: -- AlI sure hope so . . . ^&grin
Unbelievable. What an imbecile. Hope he has his GED. -- AlIt's a long time until then :wink2: These things are cyclical. One team is up, then down and vice versa.
Getting back to the here and now, that brain scientist Jenry Mejia, who had been the Mets closer in 2014, but was suspended for PED use in 2015, served his suspension and was reinstated, then tested positive again and was suspended until July 2016, has now been tested positive again and has been permanently banned from baseball. Lot of talent but a five cent head.
SI has come out with their rankings as spring training begins:
Cubs
Mets
Astros
Dodgers
Pirates
Giants
Rangers
Red Sox
Blue Jays Royals
After the top 10, Yankees are 12, Cardinals, 13, Nationals 14, Angels 21, Os 23 and Braves 29.
Howe was a specialty LHP, and thus was given numerous chances at a career. He was suspended 7 different times because of drug and alcohol abuse. He was killed at 48 years of age when he rolled his pickup truck. He was DUI of meth. -- AlI wonder if he will be banned like Steve Howe was. I think he was "banned for Life" back in the 80's a few times. Shame about Howe was I believe it ended up ending his life early. Very tragic story.
