They finally have an anchor for the staff. Got $35 mil for 3 years. I expect big things for the 2016 O's.:wink2: -- Al

I wouldn't know this guy if i fell over him....................he's averaged 11 wins a year for the past three years, if that pattern holds the next three years, he'll be earning 1.1 million per win.............{eek3}..................in college, as a lefty I threw in the high 80's, hit the low 90's once in awhile, I should have developed a better curve ball or a cutter and hung in there, some of the tomato cans in MLB who are making big coin blow my hair back...............35 million dollars, that's a **** ton of toy soldiers I'll have to sell to earn that sort of dough.............:rolleyes2:

George:

Baseball salaries are insane and that insanity is exemplified by pitchers, especially when you break it down by earning per win.

CC Sabathia made $3.8 mil per win in 2015, and Matt Cain made $10 mil per win. In 2016 Kershaw would need to win 32 games to make $1 mil per win, David Price would need to win 30 games to make $1 mil per win and Verlander would need to win 28 games to make $1 mil per win.

I believe they are going to be signing Fowler also.

Well yeah; when you have a chance to get a generational talent like the immortal Dexter Fowler, then you go for it..............keep giving up those high draft picks.................

I see that the media is concerned about Pablo Sandoval's weight again. That happened every year when he was a Giant and yet he still played an integral part in all of their recent championships.

Some MLB trivia, just because: A 100 win season is a rather rare occurence. It has happened only 97 times in MLB history.
#1 all time are the NY Yankees with 19 such seasons in their 112 year history.
#2 are the Athletics with 10 such seasons in their 112 year history.
Interestingly, the Pirates have won 100 only 2 times in 131 years, the last was in 1909.
The White Sox have only 1 such season in 112 years and that was 1917.
Braves: 8 in 137 years
Cardinals: 8 in 131 years
Giants: 7 in 130 years
Dodgers: 6 in 127 year
Orioles: 5 in 112 years
Mets: 3 in 51 years
Red Sox: 3 in 112 years
Angels: 1 in 52 years
Twins: 1 in 112 years
These aren't all the 100 game winners, just the majority.
The following teams have never won 100 games in a season:
The Rays
Marlins
Brewers
Rangers
Padres
Rockies
Blue Jays
and the Expos/Nationals

That is some interesting trivia I also had no idea that the Braves have been around for 137 years!

So 3 times in 51 -- actually 54 -- years for the Metropolitans is pretty darn good. That's once every 18 years, sixth best ratio!

We're overdue! ^&grin

There are eleven teams with the best winning records in a single season and a good many of them didn't win the WS.

1906 Cubs. 116 wins. Lost to the White Sox

2001 Mariners. 116. Lost to the Yankees.

1998 Yankees. 114. Probably best team ever.

1954 Indians. 111. Lost to Giants.

1909 Pirates. 109.

1927 Yankees. 110.

1961 Yankees. 109. Another tremendous team.

1969 Orioles. 109. Lost to you know who ^&grin

1986 Mets. 108. Refuse to lose!

1975 Reds. 108.

1970 Orioles. 108.

O's have signed Dexter Fowler for around $35 mil over 3 years. This fills the last gap the O's needed to fill. -- Al

Wow....not sure what got into Pete Angalos this off season but I'm buying it!!!!!!!!!!! maybe after so many years of penny pinching the time has come to at least make a effort in a playoff push...Sammy

I know. It feels like the O's spent more money this off-season than they had in the last 20 years, combined. Given comeback years from Gonzalez and Tillman, the O's starting rotation doesn't look terrible. -- Al

Os look like they could be a pretty good team. They should be competitive in what's turning into a very tough division, maybe the toughest this year.

Jose Bautista, who will be 36 before the 2016 season is over, wants the Jays to fork over $150 mil for 5 years. Now, that is insane.:rolleyes2: -- Al

What I say to that is "Flip this" and "Adios."

That other idiot Encarnacion says he won't negotiate during the season. Why? He's not doing the negotiating. His agent is. I know this is a common approach but it's childish. They should look to move these two.

Encarnacion is the clambrain who jogs the bases with one flap up like it's in a cast, imagine someone trying that with Bob Gibson or Jim Palmer, they'd get one in the ribs next time at bat.

And the bat flip is showboating to the extreme, Ortiz does it all the time and it's annoying; stop showing up the pitcher and just do your home run trot and get back into the dugout already.

Apparently there was something the O's didn't like in the Gallardo physical. The deal has been restructured to 2 years and $22 mil with a 3rd year option/buyout. Wonder what it was? -- Al
