Although I'm for every player getting as much as they can, when I hear that Boras is a player's agent, I cringe. That's why the Mets will need to trade Harvey or they will get nothing for him. Boras also represents Conforto but that's a bit more into the future.

Whether it actually means anything or not, the O's have said they are not going to play the Boras game. The O's offer is time sensitive and they want a deal done fast, otherwise they want to move on with the money for other needs. For what it's worth.:rolleyes2: -- Al
ESPN now reporting that the O's have withdrawn the offer to Davis. Someone call me when this on-again, off-again crap is over.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Boras would rather reject an offer that he thought was insufficient and let the situation linger/fester all the way to the opening of the season and beyond, if necessary.

Max Scherzer didn't sign until very late in the process. Guess who his agent is? Give that man a kewpie doll!

Stephen Drew did the same thing a year ago or maybe in 2014, I don't remember which. Guess who his agent is? Give that man a second kewpie doll!

Every fan should cringe when they find out that Scott Boras represents a player on their team.

Looks like Hayward is down to four teams: Cubs, Cards, Nats and Angels. I pray to god he signs with the Angels because I root for the Angels and I definitely don't know want to see him with the Nats or the Cubs.

Don't worry about the Nats, Brad. The way things are going so far this off-season, they'll lose him too.:rolleyes2::wink2: -- Al

Watch, the Nats will not sign any big names, and will probably lose a player or two. The experts will all say that they are not going to make the playoffs, yet they go on to win the World Series. Expectations do strange things to baseball teams.

Ah yes, that old expectations bug-a-boo. We found out about that one last season.^&grin -- Al

Gotta admit though, Heyward would look good in CF wearing a 'W'.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

I've got a feeling it's going to be the Cubs. I'm already sick and tired of hearing about Zobrist.

Why did the Nats trade Escobar? I liked him. Thought he was a good hitter.

Brad, I think Escobar went bye-bye because the Nats believe the infield is well covered, unlike the bullpen. Escobar wasn't the best fielder but he could hit and was one of our best last season. He was the key part of the Clippard trade and now he's gone too. I don't really get it, either. -- Al

Record price paid for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card in an auction in Dallas...$525,000 K. For a piece of cardboard. Cardboard! Oh, to be so rich.:rolleyes2: -- Al

This morning Steve Phillips and Todd Hollandsworth on MLB Radio on Siriux XM were critical of this trade as it just didn't make sense to him. Steve did say, however, that if a trade doesn't initially make sense, there is probably another part that will come down later.

Looks like Hayward is signing with the Cubs. He is a nice player but hardly worth this kind of money.

He hit 293, with 14 HR and 60 RBI in 2015. His OPS was 797. These are hardly great numbers, particularly OPS, which is average.

I understand Greinke getting ridiculous numbers because he's very good.

I can't imagine what Harper will get when he becomes a free agent.

From SI.com:

Of the 39 position players to have signed contracts worth $100 million or more, Heyward will become the first outfielder to do so without ever scoring or driving in 100 runs.

Basically they've paid $56 M for a utility infielder and $184 for a nice outfielder. Cubs ownership must have come into some serious chunk of change. In the one area where they needed to drastically improve, they signed Lackey but not much else. Hitting was not their problem last year.

The 2015 World Series pitted the team with the 16th highest payroll in MLB versus the team with the 21st highest payroll in MLB.

Any news on Davis? There hasn't been much talk since the Orioles pulled their offer.

Madness, but it's not my money. $184 M for 8.
That's huge money for Heyward. Nats missed out but it is a good miss at that money. It is insanity. Brad, as you alluded to, Harper will own DC. Lerner's may as well marry him into the family and make him a partner now. I guess the $30 mil a year figure floating around DC is not out of line, after all. Insanity. -- Al

ESPN reporting that Heyward turned down offers of $200 mil from the Cards and the Nats in order to play for the Cubs. A bit unusual to leave that much money on the table. What's wrong with St. Louis and DC, I mean other than they don't have a history of losing since 1908? -- Al
