Re: battle for arnhem....
Here we see arguably the most powerful tank of the war, a pz 6 heavy tank known as a King Tiger. Its L70 cal 88mm gun, formidable armour and superb optics meant it could hit enemy tanks and destroy most of them at ranges of 2km or more, but was almost invulnerable to a frontal shot from practically all allied tanks unless at very close range and lucky.................
At around 70 tons however, it was underpowered, a real gas guzzler (a significant problem for the Germans at the end of the war), and less than 500 were made.
This machine is one of the first fifty or so made - it has the early Porsche turret with a potential 'shot trap' that could deflect AT shells onto the thin roof armour of the hull. Later machines had a Henschel turret with a small frontal target and no overhang.
Nevertheless, a very formidable fighting machine, especially against lightly armed paratroops. They had to pray for a flank shot with a six pounder at short range, or a 17pdr hit - that could do it damage! There were only a few in the whole division however

.................and it would be vulnerable to counter fire with artillery, mortars, infantry and the tank's own gun and machine gun armament - not a fair fight!!!!!!
