Blaster Collection (4 Viewers)

Hi All,

following a great European trip, I came back with a lot of ideas and ways to display my collection. I do have a lot of pieces of different types and makes, styles, scales and in various stages of completion.

There is only so much storage and display space but even unfinished pieces are quite satisfying to look at and mull over.

I've decided to refresh my display collection entirely, bringing out the better looking pieces and keeping the others under wraps.

The collection is now undergoing some transitional changes, with coloured backdrops to create context and grandeur and various props included as well.

The first pic shows an overall of the various displays. The general display runs chronologically, starting with ancients, medieval, renaissance, Napoleonics, pre WWI, WWII etc.

As can be seen, I am evacuating various levels to fit into this plan.

I am also making use of more shelves for the displays, spreading out the pieces. The first two pics show the initial congestion.

The last pic shows the native pieces being transferred to their own section. I used a light beige background to harmonise with the earth colours. prevalent in the vignettes. Note the introduction of zinnfiguren into the background.

More harmonization. the Napoleonics, WWI with sandbags, WWII displays. Still a lot to do.

I continue to update my collection. Here is part of the collection featuring mostly Mokarex Cafe Storme figures.
Note the mix of presentation styles.

You have a wonderful museum collection! Thank you for sharing!

Hello Joe and Napoleon1er,

Thanks for your very nice comments. I guess I've discovered that the trick is to add splashes of colour everywhere to enhance the look.:)

I just discovered this. Great collection, well displayed. How do you light the shelves if I may ask?

The shelves are from IKEA, Billy bookcase range. The Halo lights come with it. I am trying to replace these with LED lights in the future. I had replace the original movable wooden shelves with glass shelves to let the light through.

Victor,

thanks for showing us you expanding collection, after seeing it when I visited you, it's looking just as impassive in the pictures.

If it gets any bigger, maybe you will need your own apartment to house them :) :)

By the way, I hope get a couple more BILLY Bookcase, with glass shelves, LED lighting and doors soon, because my troops are SO overcrowded, but I do have space in my toy soldier room for another 5 :)

Hello John,

Well, you know how pokey apartments in Singapore can be...

What I enjoy is planning the updates to the collection now and then. This year, besides adding even more figures, I plan to do several involved projects which probably will not fit into the bookcases. These will be stand-alone displays.

Now thinking about a trip to Spain. Never been there, kind of like the music:)

I had added some figures to my Sacre but not yet posted these figures.

The first group is the one surround Madam Mere sitting in the box just behind Napoleon and Josephine.

The second group are four delegates hidden behind the altar and the priests. They comprise the American Minister and Turkey delegate.

Here's an update on the evolving state of my collection.
As you know, I use IKEA cupboards with varying levels of glass shelves.
The pics below are a composite of pasting two pics together.

My Ethnic collection. Upper two shelves are mostly Papua New Guinean figures, with a couple of African figures. Bottom shelf is Native Americans, Africans, Balinese, Japanese and Chinese. I placed some Ancient and Arabic flats in the background.

My 21st Century display. Pre and interwars, WWI and WWII. I recently painted all the trenches in various dark browns to contrast bright red ceremonials with grim realities. Some very rare coach kits adorn the background.

My mostly Ancient to 18th Cent collection.

Ancients. Mostly Romans with Assyrian Flats in the background. I have a spectacular Hannibal Crossing the Rhone Flat set just waiting to be painted and displayed.

Medieval to 18th Century. Many Mokarex Cafe Storme figures. Heavy cavalry pieces are placed on the bottom shelf due to their weights.

I've gathered all the pics of my completed musicians in this section for a virtual display.
