Bored Tonight...Post a Diorama, LOL (4 Viewers)

Here are some more pictures. The Amtrack looks a whole lot better in a diorama than in the brochures, don't you agree? Andy did a nice job on this vehicle and I love the paint job despite most of them in WWII were gray and dark green colored I believe. However, I do remember seeing some pictures in camo with the vertical stripe.

I sure wish he would have included some Marine gunners to man the 50 cal. machine guns. Maybe this could be a future set he could release like he does with separate 88 gun teams.

Notice I have mixed a few Figarti Marines in with the KC sets despite the scale differences. The KC sets is superior however I look for continued quality improvements from Figrati both in sculpts and especially painting.

Carlos: The Marine diorama is one of the best I saw relating to island hopping. I have the amtrak and it is one of my favorites. Did you use regular sand for base? really like the effect. I enjoy your pics and what size do you post them in. I seem to end up with too large or too small pictures. Nice work. John

Thank you Leadman,

This terrain piece is a combinations of five elements, they are:

#1 Sand base (Lemax):
Sand base that rolls out to a maximum 18" wide X 48" long dimension from Lemax, I get them from: http://www.micheles-craft-and-hobby.com/sanddisplaymat.html. These are great because you can cut to size.

#2 Decorative sand:
I augment the sand bases with decorative sand found in any art & craft shop (e.g. Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc.). Sprinkle it liberally where the sand base meets other terrain pieces (e.g. water, rocks, etc.). Then sprinkle the decorative sand around the base of trees and vehicles that you do NOT consider a collectible (e.g. FOV, 21stCentury, etc.).

#3 Moss:
Again this material can be found in any arts and craft shop and be used in this particular scene vary sparingly. Frankly, shake the moss and only use the debris that falls and not the moss itself

#4: JG Miniatures #JGS33a (or S33a) - Clumps of short dry grass
These can be obtained from any dealer (e.g. Treefrog, Old Toy Soldiers, etc.) carrying JGM.

#5 Palm Trees:
It’s a mixture of Department 56 (retired Bethlehem series), JGM and some Build-A-Rama (he made for me last year) palms. These are date palms and I don’t believe anyone offers coconut palms. The exception maybe is Pegasus which requires assembly and painting.

The destroyed palm trees are from JGM and obtained from any JGM dealer and I’m sure Shannon will special order them for you upon request.

POSTING PICTURES:
Check my posting on how to do this from a previous posting:

I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing yours and other diorama postings from the rest of you.

Carlos...............Nice Work..............................Firebat

Yes I thought they were quite interesting also.

Very, very nice. Did you ever think of selling some of your dioramas? Then, of course, it becomes work and not just fun.

What did you use to make the street surfaces?

Regarding the lamps, are those maybe from trains, perhaps O gauge?

The Conte paratrooper adds a bit of reality although a bit too grisly for me.

Thanks for the compliment guys,

Yes, I do it for enjoyment and I love it. Simply, it's just fun. All my dioramas are not static and are meant to be torn down and redeployed in other scenes with differing themes.

Yes, kind a like being a kid again and setting up your army men and blowing them up and creating new scenes again. However, I don't blow them up for obvious reasons.

The streets are bases made by JGM (CB18)

I got mine for the Old Toy Soldiers Home in Sand Diego, CA
http://www.oldtoysoldierhome.com/diorama.htm

It seems not all of the JGM dealers carry the same JGM stock.

The lamps?
I hate saying this but they are retired and you might have some challenges finding anymore but are Imperials Productions - Street lamps (TA51). I was fortunate in buying six sets of these before they completely disappeared last year.

Thanks Treefrog, Old Toy Soldiers Home of SD and Hobby Bunker,

Very nice but........who's doing the dusting?

Njja:D

Dusting , Quite a chore for massive collections indeed!.
And now something completely different.

Hannibal and Rome. Troops hadn't been out for a few years.A recent book purchase inspired me to field the armies again last nite for a wargame with a couple friends.
28mm troops, mostly painted by me, quite a few others I picked up on ebay or at conventions.Battle
Was a draw.Darn Romans are hard to beat!!!

Theres about 1,000 troops on the table.I've dug through my 1/2 painted stuf thats been sitting around for years and of course theres all kinds of new figures available now for more Carthaginian Allies as well as some killer Republican Romans, Italian allies ect. and since I can't resist adding more colorful troops it looks like theres some more units to build!
