Britains Durbar Question (1 Viewer)

Hi Oz,

Those are good points and I suspose if the auction house was worried about their reputation they might think twice about doing business this way. I have not had any issues with Vectis except they do charge a rather high buyers prememium but I guess its part of the cost of doing business. But you are correct in that I find things especially large lots will go for a lot less than retail so you can make a good purchase once in a while.

All the best

Dave

Dave , I have been hesitant to remove the figures from their boxes when it comes to Hocker. They are tied in so well.LOL I will try and at least pull them out of the box. Did you see the Warwicks? So you are up North of me?

Hi KV,

I did see the Warwicks and have to tell you I dont know anything about that company. I did like the look especially the durmmer boy, but I would imagine they only appeal to the older collectors as they have such a toy quality about them.

As for the Hockers I am dying to see them but if its too much to take them out just shoot a picture of them in the box.

Yes I am currently up in WA near Olympia. Your in Southern California right. We really enjoy San Diego and San Francisco could do with out seeing LA again but if you're driving what can you do right?

Talk to you later

All the best

Dave

Santa Clara is 40 miles south of San Francisco. I unpacked the the elephant and band. Also the vice regal set. Pictures coming

Hi KV

Cant wait to see the pictures. I have a friend who lives in San Fran next time we visit the area we'll have to have a cup of coffee.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys:

Good to meet you at the Westcoaster KV. Enjoyed meeting and being able to go over your ideas and thoughts.

While I was gone you guys have been burning up the lines about the Durbar. Love the photos! Inspiring me to get my Britains Durbar sets out and wait for the wrath of Jennifer, a small hand from my 3 or 4 year old or the cat to bring down the display. But hey - what fun are they in the box?

KV - I feel your pain with Bill Hocker's wonderful sets - to take them out or leave them in??? I bought his wonderful Lexington and Concord (I think he calls is something else) set last fall and this Christmas finally succumbed - cutting the black thread and displaying them - and I must say it was very rewarding. So my advice is to go for it.

B egood,

Richard

I did do it:eek: Thank you for the encouragement Richard. You to Dave. Pics are in the other Durbar thread.

Richard, It was nice to meet you. You guys have done some excellent glossy work as of late. I am real tempted to get the Russian Artillery and Standard bearer sets. And, I do not collect that era!

Hi Guys

I messed around with my display and grouped the 5 elephants I have on display so I took a couple of pictures. I have a 6th elephant but my wife is holding it for a future birthday. So here are some pictures.

All the best

Dave

AWWWwww wook at the pwetty elephants!:D :D :D Just six huh? But, you have those glorious stilt walkers too;)

Hi Dave,

I have been thinking about your wonderful Durbar collection. I don't suppose you would consider inviting us all to Washington to participate in a Durbar Symposium, much like the symposium Louis sponsors in New York, would you? I know Vamp and I would try to make it there! :D

Seriously, I never tire of looking at your Durbar collection. Your pictures and your display are great! However, I am curious about the sixth elephant. Do you know which elephant it is? Or, is your wife keeping you in suspense? Whenever it is possible, please let us know more about the sixth one.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I mean Dam it all chaps. The Durbar is fantastic. Lest start a campaign to get Britains to revisit this range in gloss. Its not all about matt and realism you know.

Damian,

I will strongly second your motion for Britains to revisit the Durbar. And,...only in gloss! The topic and the figures are magnificent!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Guys,

I have been working on Richard Walker every chance I get so I hope we'll see some thing from Britains again. I imagine Richard thinks I'm a broken record but I can help it, The Durbar is the be all end all for glossy figures!

Hi Pat,

Yes I know which elephant it is, I posted a photo of it recently (had to sneak into the stash to find it:eek: ) It is the 1903 Durbar set number 8848 It is a real beauty and i hope I get to have it out in the fall for my birthday.

I will be posting some more pictures soon I am working on the arrangement, plus I feel the need to put out some more bandsmen.

All the best

Dave

Durbar, Durbar, DURBAR, I vote for Durbar sets too, Britains please do it once again:) . From viewing your Classic Collection and Victoria Cross figures, it certainly would be great. Only problem: I also like the Durbar or Indian Army from Hocker, Tradition, Marlborough, Soldiers of the World, Alexander's Toy Soldiers, Beau Geste...:p .
How does one choose? I know it ( do I ? ) but it's a lot of pain:eek: .

Please Sir . May we have another?

Dave if you have to wait until the fall for that elephant, may I suggest getting on your wifes' benevolent side?

Hi KV

Its part of the game we play if she happens to intercept the package it goes into her stash until I have forgotten or I have a birthday whichever comes first.:p ;)

However with her overseas I have to keep the stash filled so I have been adding to it for her I keep telling her anything to be helpful right?:D Somehow I think she may have seen through my scheme.

Anyway, I hope to do some more rearranging in my cluttered den/office and I my be able to break out some of my other sets like my 9th Lancers Mtd Band

All the best

Dave

Hi KV,

As far as I know she doesnt look here but I suspose I will find out the hard way if she does...:D :D :D

All the best

If elephants are too expensive then a focus on Indian Army bands and the like would be great. I love the Durbar. It is such aclourful parade and it represenst a very different world from the world we live in now. The current Indian army although serving a modern Republic takes many of its traditions from the old British Indian Army. Furthermore it is in keeping with a great Britains tradition.
