Britain's Zulu War (4 Viewers)

Lt., is that a Conte CS Bourne? He looks very nice next to those new guys.

No he's not Mr. Dave he's a MINIMEN Kit Figure of Colour-Sergent Bourne I painted. Here's a picture a Conte figure defending the Drift......The Lt.

Oh, well you do nice work with the paint brush, Lt. The Conte guy looks good with them too. Lots of exciting possibilities for future battles I think.

Just had to spend some time this AM playing with my new Zulus...The Lt.

I was at the shop and the Zulu firing the rifle has already sold out! This could be a big one for the Britains guys! Good job! Very well met!:D

Still waiting for mine to arrive (I ordered one of each). I'm glad I preordered what I wanted, though I'm sure WB will try to meet demand. The zulu firing the rifle is the best of the bunch imho. He looks bad-@ss with his two cartridge belts.

Lt., didn't you get him?

Aside from the 6 matte figures I also got the first figure from the redcoats series. To my horror he has got grey ammo pouches. Could this be a mistake? He also leans backwards a lot. I would appreciate any feedback on those issues. The figure on the right is from the Modelzone exclusive set. I put him in there for color comparisson.

Some last notes (first impressions) on the matte figures.

The zulu have a shine skin tone which looks awesome. It can't be made out in the pics properly but the skin is shaded throughout.
Although I like all of them, my favorite is the most skinny one with knobkerrie.
Sometimes less is more.

I also got my first two clambshelled figures and they are very well packed indeed. I dare to say it's a lot more safe and practical than the foam packing as you can easily put it back. Try doing that with the foam inserts without assegais bending all over the place.

Joachim I knew you'd be happy with the Zulu figures. Haven't decided on the standing firing Zulu from the iNdluyengwe yet but do agree he's a beauty. I also like the idea of the Clamshell Packaging and of the two this on is my favorite...The Lt.

I have only gotten my hands on the 2 clamshell figures and I too really like the "stripped down for battle" one with the knobkerrie a lot. My wife, who does not normally look twice at my little guys actually saw these and gave them a "wow". I might have to get more than one of some of these. The only one I am not sure on so far is the rifle toting one. I guess I'll decide when I see him.

I'll also comment on the clamshell packaging since it came up. Initially I was not sure I'd like it...kind of conditioned to prefer foam lined boxes y'know. Now that I own a dozen or so of these clamshell packed figures I think it is quite convenient and less stressful for sure taking figures out and putting them away. Big fan now.

Update; the pouches should be white and the figure should be straight.
WB will send me a replacement that has been personally selected and inspected by WB's Big Kahuna. Thank you Richard.

Hi there! I was looking at my pre production Zulu War 'Hospital' (Otto Witt's home) today and wondering how some of you are planing on displaying one if you add it to your collection. As much as I like the inside, the front is a nice place to set up figures too. I suppose It could be set up against a mirror so you could see the action on both sides at once. I did this at the West Coaster. Any thoughts here?
By the way... our factory did a perfect job in replicating the original sample I made and decorated, right down to the glossy shards of broken glass and the wallpaper in the parlor! I can hardly wait to do the store house and the rest of the compound.

Ken, I am excited to hear the news about doing the other buildings at the Drift eventually. As far as displaying the hospital goes, I will most likely have a shelf diorama set up with the front of the building as a back drop. I would like to place a line of mealie bag barricades out in front of that and will be hoping to see a curved section in future too. I also had wondered if at some point you might decide to release a back half of the hospital for anyone who might wish to go all out and display the whole compound in 3D. That would be truly amazing. This is going to be a great line for years and years to come. Thanks for the great work.

Hi There! I just returned from a two day meeting with Richard to plan out long term additions to existing lines...and the developement of new ones. The curved barricade is on the list with a number of other important components to create Rorke's Drift. Look for several of these new additions later this year. I will really be interested to see how many folks would like to see the rear portion of the Witt house. Although I have designed the entire building on paper, the model as we have produced it, will work in most collectors display areas without being too big. The roof line was designed to end just past the center line so it would appear as more than a facade at eye level. The storehouse could also be designed in this same manner and along with the various barricade sections, would make an interesting and fairly accurate compound to display your figures in.
