Here's a BMSS Drum Major in State Dress before and after simple refurbishment. Not obvious is the fact that I've straightened up the figure slightly as it was tilted forward.
Thanks again for your comment. I think you generally like "clean" presentations with immaculate uniforms. For me, placing the figures side by side on a display shelf is very attractive but is like viewing cars in a sales room. Hence, I use this approach for my "toy soldier" figures.
I actually prefer the model figure to be displayed in context to its immediate surroundings. Hence, for each piece, I work on the groundwork.
For my vietnam grunt, the jungle conditions were to recreate the conditions for the haggard look of the grunt. Hence I built up the foliage to knee high.
For this Roman standard bearer, the foliage is merely some ground clutter over the bare gravel.
I added a lead strap over the stick grenades. Contemporary pics show many of these frontline Waffen soldiers with grenades tucked under their waist belt.
I added some putty here and there to the HJ soldier, nicely filling in the gaps created by the grenades and overlapping belt, trying to make the uniform bulkier to emphasize the youthful nature of this figure. I added a brass-etched iron cross to his neck. Waiting for the MG42 to set before I add the strap to the gun.
Regarding the Murat figure, the details are fugitive in areas and coarse in others. It is also not a single casting but comprises several castings glued together. Hence I've decided to enhance most of the figure.
Starting with the right arm where I've built up the shoulder. I later removed the right arm to work on the inside part. I also built up the fur around the pelisse and later also removed it entirely to work on the thighs.
The thighs were later built up and the boots were delineated.
The sword and sabretache casting and slings (one piece) are very coarse. I've decided to substitute these with Historex spares.
Painting has begun for this figure. The figure looks quite elegant in outline and hopefully the substituted sabre and sabretache will greatly improve its appearance.
