Castings I have painted (1 Viewer)

Hi Scott - I certainly will - though I'm after one in Review Order. It's the State dress you want - is it? I'm pretty sure that they do a Trumpeter in State Dress already.

I will mention it next time I write - snail mail to them, johnnybach.

Could you not buy just the Asset LG horses and just the figures from RP World models? Assuming they would fit on the horses.

Tricky question that - there's really only one way to find out - try it. I have found that patience and the drip effect have always worked for me in the past.

For example, with Asset - they used NOT to do a Guards Drum Major in Guards Dress - just the State dress. So.... I kept ordering a Fusiler Drum major - minus the head - and substituted a Guards Officer head ( look back in the thread to find them). I kept saying in my letters how much I liked that figure - and if they made him an option - they would sell more of them etc etc etc.

Result - after two years - they started doing one. I am doing the same thing again for the HC.

" It would be lovely IF you could do a band - I would have them etc etc.."

I'm sure they will - just have to wait- and convince them. How about sending them a letter (remember those?). If more than one person writes.............
Anyone else out there fancy one????

You never know - might work. jb:D

Hi Jeff - thought you might have been busy - nice to hear from U. I have been looking at the Alma figures - and can see that you have been occupied elsewhere. Well. there's another day tomorrow!

Yes, that trooper knows how to tempt, doesn't he. That's three more bands for me to tackle - and it's only thursday!!

That's the thing about this hobby though - you never know what's going to tickle the old taste buds next. It would be simple to look through the catalogues and choose some - but NO - I see something - and next moment I'm thinking - how could I make that?

Good fun though - eh? jb

Incidently Johnny, in the Army Air Corps photos you will note the bass player wearing blues as opposed to the lancer style tunic. these photos were taken at Knellor Hall in July 1995 and that particular bandsman was extra tall and they couldn't produce his tunic in time for the parade. He was not a happy bunny. Another thing was the question of aprons (presumably for the bass drummer) which at that time was under discussion. Haven't been fortunate enough to see them recently so don't know if leopardskins were adopted or not. anyone know? Trooper

Scott - the Kettledrummer can also be ordered in State Dress. So that's two. IF you order them - don't forget to mention that you would REALLY like the rest of the band. That way - if there's more than one of us asking - they might just go for it!

Tell you what - I will order a trumpeter in State Dress as well (and have another whinge at the same time!!). jb :)

Hi trooper - you have a good eye for detail - this is the only one I have - which doesn't show the Bass drummer.

I agree - he would look cooler with a leopardskin apron. No problem though, just do the band as 1995 - with either no apron - or a plain one, which is easy enough. johnnybach

Trooper - if you put in Army Air Corps Band - to the machine.....

You will get up " Changing the Guard at Windsor - Army Air Corps". Click on this and you get a 5 minute clip of the band in 2009, The Bass Drummer is wearing a plastron - with what looks like a partial plain black apron. Have a look and see if you agree. jiohnnybach.

Was it just castings you wanted?

Martin

Hi Martin,

That's what I am looking for. Are you familiar with the QEII Jubilee set that Britains made? They did a Lifeguards set but no Royal Horseguards (they always seem left out) so I would like to make a set. That is why I wanted to know what uniform they would have worn at the 1953 Coronation procession.

Johnny, don't know if the clip on You Tube is the same as the one you saw but that one shows a clip from a show in Germany in 2009. Very interesting in the addition of detail. All members of the band with the exception of the percussion section, (side drummer, bass drummer and cymbals [a female]) wear a pouchbelt of pale blue edged with gold, all now wear a white waistbelt with sword slings!! and all now wear spurs. The bass drummer wears as you suggest, a short black apron. Just shows how the details change over the years, and how the pundits who state "Oooooh no, they never wore that" can be so wrong, they could have worn whatever in such and such a year. After all the Household Cavalry had a mounted SIDE drummer in 1939 for onr brief period. Trooper

Well it's obvious why the Blues are always left out, The Life Guards are the best after all (no superiors and damed few equals!).

Yes an excellent work. Re your exchanges with Britfarmer the coronation uniform would have been State dress would it not? Trooper

Apparently only for the RHG (any they were mounted), the Lifeguards wore red tunics and peaked caps (and were on foot) and they didn't play as a massed band. Wonder why?

Only go to battle to add tone to what would otherwise be a merely vulgar brawl. Trooper

Hi trooper - yes I noticed quite a few details like that. Did you note the female officer marching with drawn sword in one of the clips (there were others). I suppose that some milliput work would be necessary to create female band-persons ( trying desperately to be politically correct here!). Can't really fathom those sword slings - they look unnecessary. Are they trying to hark back to the times when bandsmen wore "dress" swords?

Also, several members of the band were wearing dark, short aprons. Maybe they are optional wear - if you feel that "your" instruments could get caught up in all of those buttons down the front of what looks like a plastron? Must be awkward. Also, the mind boggles if you think what might be trapped between those clashing cymbals!!! Hmmmmm.....

The overall effect, however, is excellent. The beret even looks good with a smart Number 2 dress. I didn't want to give it back when my short hitch was over! I used to have a photo - but some yers ago during a house move, lots of photos were lost. Shame that. jb

With all this excitement going on - it's probably going to be an anti-climax to say that I have finished another batch of six Mounties for the band. I now have 26 completed (out of 36) so will re-photograph tomorrow (when the light is better) and post new pics. The point that I am trying to make - is that with larger numbers - bands just keep getting better and better to look at - at least that's what I think. johnnybach

Yes I explained that in a p.m. That's why I posted that dismounted band, I couldn't figure out how to send it!

I've never realy looked into the kit worn at the coronation. It wouldn't suprise me if it was simply a cost issue. Two mounted bands 1 dismounted all in one of the most expensive uniforms that is issued (only the guards are issued full dress, other regiments have to buy there own) and at a time when the country was still under rationing. Mounted duties had been carried out in khaki service dress with red and blue with cross belt and sword up until 1947. They hadn't even repaired the bomb damage to Buck House or Horseguards (you can still see it)
