Chicago show 2017 (1 Viewer)

As much as I would like to attend I do not think I can (or should).

I have been in California for the past month tending to my ailing father. I missed my wedding anniversary and I left my wife all alone to ride out Hurricane Harvey. I will finally get home this Thursday. I think going to the Chicago Show (or even mentioning going) would be GFD, also known as grounds for divorce.

Hi Jason, very sorry to hear of your father's being sick, hopefully he will be fine soon enough, and again, I wish you good wishes with your home in Texas.

As far as the show both you and I have been trying to get there for the last umteenth years with no luck for either!!! so HOPEFULLY I break that curse in a few short weeks, and if I'm finally lucky enough to do so, I'll certainly raise a pint in your honor, we deserve it after so many tries ^&grin^&grin...one day we will both make it there, don't forget that drink I won on the O's/Giants series is gaining interest every year!!!:):):):) take care good mate.

Sammy:

Thanks again for the notes in regards to my Dad and Texas.

I truly do hope that you make it to the show. A collector such as yourself more than deserves to finally get there! As far as that drink I owe you? Well, lets just say that there are probably also some appetizers now involved as part of the interest.

Best,
Jason

Only two weeks a way for me . . . . Hope to see many of you on Friday the 22nd . . . .

I've decided to come and see what all the fuss is about. Will get in Saturday most likely.

Do you need to buy a ticket for the room trading or just show up?

Are there any events or dinners with the show? I'm looking for someone to drink beer with as well since the wife can not come with me.

We look forward to meeting you. You just need to show up for the trading. The trading is on the 4th and 5th floors but Hobby Bunker and AeroArt are on the main floor. I recommend staying at the Hyatt Regency in Schaumberg only because that's where the room trading and actual show is. There is a preferential rate for the show but there are other hotels nearby.

Most people arrive on Thursday but many of the sellers set up by Wednesday.

There are no real organized dinners other than the TF Dinner. There are a lot of informal getting togethers. People usually congregate in the evenings by the hotel bar. It's a great way to meet people.

When you get there, you should grab a map of the hotel because it helps with the room trading as the hotel is laid out in a very peculiar way.

Hello Hunter,

No ticket ... just wander from room to room, floor to floor and find the hidden treasures.
There is a charge for the Sunday "BIG EVENT" which we actually take over the whole hotel space, ballrooms, corridors , you name it.
Quite and event.

Stop by the Minutemen room and say hi.

Hey Steve, I'll be there from Friday/Mon, also with no wife so if you want to grab a cold one just let me know.

Very excited for my first time going to this event. Looking forward to it. I am ready to empty my wallet{sm4}

Sadly gentlemen, I may not be able to attend this year's OTSN. I had to fly coach to and from Tampa Florida to handle the arrangements for my mother's estate, and, due to the hurricane, I could not get direct flights. The hours I spent on these completely full flights, unable to move, in the middle seat (because my original flight was cancelled due to the hurricane, and I had to take what I could get), have caused my back to relapse as badly as it has been in since the surgery, and right now I cannot walk at all, even with the cane. If my back doesn't quiet down by Friday, I will have to cancel my arrangements.:redface2:

Sorry to hear it Louis. Back are tough. Hope things improve in the near future. Looks like a lot of the gang will be missing: you, Tim and I don't think Hans will be going. Getting old is not easy.

Brad

Hopefully you can get some rest over the next few days and your back feels better, hope to see you in Chicago but if not hope you get well soon.

Louis hope you back feels better soon. I had a lot of trouble with my back and it's no fun. Hope all gets well soon. Ron

After a hiatus of several of several years, I have decided, at the last minute, to attend this year's show. It is really more about meeting fellow collectors than buying more toy soldiers for my collection since I have no room left to display them. However, that being said, I am positive that I will buy some anyway irrespective of lack of display space. I also signed up for the Treefrog dinner on Friday night. I'll be arriving early Friday afternoon and departing late Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to it!
