College Football - 2014 (1 Viewer)

Not a great slate of games this weekend.

West Virginia 31 Kansas St. 24 - Get the tear gas ready and prepare to light up a couch for a Mountaineer upset.

USC 38 UCLA 35 - the mighty Trojans bring their NCAA compliant team into the Rose Bowl for a big game. Hundley gives SC fits with his mobility but it's not enough. Josh Shaw saves a kid from drowning at halftime igniting a Trojan victory. He then leaps from atop the Rose Bowl and is last seen disappearing into the San Gabriel mountains.

Utah 24 Arizona 20 - the cold and hostile environment help the Utes. Every woman in the crowd will be blonde and attractive like something out of "Village of the ****ed" spooking the Cats.

Notre Dame 31 Louisville 28 - even the refs couldn't save the Irish last week. The wheels have come off their cart, but the odds of three straight losses is slim. I miss the days when Kelly would scream at his players like Sgt. Carter yelling at Gomer Pyle. Another choke job from this team and it might be a return to form.

Geez, I should really go to Vegas with the opposite of your picks, you have started the weekend with a bang!

Kansas State 26 WVA 20 - Loss #1.

So, I guess now I should bet heavily on UCLA b/c the "once" mighty Trojans will surely fall, Arizona is a lock to win, but I think you may be onto something with the ND pick, they will not lose 3 in a row as much as I hope for it, smart money says they win.

As always we are looking forward to the Big Game in our household. I have been pretty happy throughout our marriage on that one. Stanford has one every time since we got married. However if Cal does win I am going to be in big trouble. My wife will no doubt pay me back tenfold.

Shocking score as the first half winds down in the FSU/BC game; FSU up 17-10.

Usually at this point in a game, FSU is down by three scores.

Watched the Harvard v Yale game today. Don't follow either team but it is a very old rivalry, so I watch it when ever I can just for the tradition. Usually ends up being a good game, with great atmosphere. Kind of what college football is all about (and the Ivy League has NO play reviews!). Counting the days to my favorite game of the year, Army v Navy. Go Navy! -- Al

Hi Al, just read Maryland beat Michigan!!!

Sammy, they sure did, much to my surprise. I realize Michigan isn't what it once was but it is still a great win for UMd., and on the road, to boot. That gives UMd 4 wins in the Big 10 this year, about 3 more than I thought possible. Somehow, UMd is now 7-4 overall. I honestly thought UMd might win 3 games this year, so I am very pleased. -- Al

The Stanford win means the wife has to wear my Stanford sweatshirt all week!

She is not too happy and I don't think I helped things by telling her that she looks better in Cardinal red than she does in blue and gold.

I have been struck blind by the hideousness of the uniform color combinations in the Oregon-Oregon St. game. Oh for the days of black and white TV. -- Al

The Alabama/Auburn game has been a classic.

Alabama up by 12 and just stopped Auburn on a fourth down attempt.

Never expected this kind of offensive explosion in the Iron Bowl. Over 1100 total yards offense and 99 points. Quite a display. -- Al

Some great games last weekend. The Trojans put a major beatdown on the Irish. I haven't seen an Irish team that banged up and demoralized in the last 40 years. The injuries were unreal. Golson went from Heisman candidate to benched in the midst of a four game losing streak. Bama-Auburn was wild. Anyone remember the infamous Bama 7-0 win over LSU a few years ago? I guess the days of SEC defensive struggles are over. Georgia Tech-Georgia was the wildest game I've seen all year.

Coming off a disasterous week for my last picks. The high rollers in Vegas are clamoring for them this week to bet the opposite of my predictions. So here goes:

Oregon 34 Arizona 20 - bank this one. No way do the Ducks lose three times in a row to AZ. The Cats are playing well and obviously match up with the Ducks but Team Nike is playoff bound.

Ohio St. 30 Wisconsin 27 - Warden Myers is a winner. Even with a third string QB starting the Bucks handle the Badgers. You will never die poor betting against Wisconsin in a big game.

Baylor 44 Kansas St. 40 - KSt is a difficult team to assess. This one could go either way, but I think Baylor lights up the scoreboard enough to win.

Alabama 38 Missouri 10 - Even Lame "victory cancer" Kiffin can't slow the Tide with NFL talent two deep at every position. His every bubble screen called from that plastic Denny's menu is a work of genius when it goes to an NFL caliber WR for 50 yards.

Georgia Tech 24 Florida St. 21 - all the signs are there. "Crab Legs" had that thousand yard stare like he thought the police were chasing him instead of the Gator D while throwing four INTs. Playing with fire every week. The only team to win this year after a four INT game. The streak means the odds of something bad breaking the other way are hanging heavy. The math gods are closing in on FSU. Georgia Tech is also a very good team.

No current line on Baylor/K-State pending Petty's status.

Most likely the biggest game in the history of U. of Arizona today!!! as a 12 year citizen of this great state I have seen the Wildcats grow from the laughing stock of the Pac 10 just a short 7-8 years ago to now being one of the better teams in the Pac 12, if some how they can beat the Oregon Ducks again (Cats beat them at Oregon early this year) it's hard to even think it, but they would have an outside chance of making it to the 4 team playoffs and a shot at the National Championship!!!!!!!! they have nothing to lose, let's go Cats!!! let's bear down one more time this year!!!...Sammy

Sammy:

Tough loss last night, but U of A has nothing to be ashamed of. They might not have beaten Oregon but they are a team on the rise.

Besides, they do have one of the best basketball programs in the country, year in year out.

Imagine the mess if they had not gone to a four team playoff. Either an undefeated FSU team or Oregon/Alabama would have been out. The writing is on the wall for an eight team playoff. It might take a couple of years but the NCAA follows the money. Four major bowls equals eight teams.

TCU got screwed, they won, yet went from 3rd to 6th? Are you kidding me?

Ohio State is in, they are out, that's lousy for sure.

And Doug is right, they will go to 8 teams for sure. And again, imagine the mess were there not a playoff, either FSU or Oregon would be out, my guess would be Oregon, you can't keep an undefeated team out.

This playoff is going to be great.............

Five power conferences...four playoff spots. We're looking at an annual ritual of a conference champ feeling snubbed.

I'm going to be shocked if Bama doesn't walk off with the title but I am more interested to see if FSU can continue it's run of winning by a whisker each week. And, you all are right, it will be 8 teams as soon as the NCAA figures out the money to be made. -- Al
