College Football 2017 (3 Viewers)

Last weekend highlighted why it's so tough to pick college football games. A lot of crazy stuff went on. But let us not be deterred:

USC 48 Cal 30 - the mighty Trojans are beat up after three straight physical games. Texas stoned them last week and the D has several keys injuries but the prescription is more Kal. The Berkeley bolsheviks are off to a great start but the revolution ends this weekend. Justin "swiss chess" Wilcox seems to be doing a surprising job at Cal. He was a hated D coordinator while at SC. It's safe to say he doesn't suffer from trypophobia - a fear of holes - as his D was full of them. Cal will be able to score some points though.

Oklahoma St. 60 TCU 35 - the Cowboys are an offensive machine. TCU a defensive disaster. The combo will not be pretty.

Georgia 24 Miss. St. 17 - a pick'em. Georgia is the prototype SEC team. Great D, no offense. Miss St. crushed LSU last week. That likely meets their quota of big wins for the season.

Stanford 27 UCLA 24 - Rosen is a gunslinger for the Bruins. Stanford has looked awful. They rebound with a close and ugly win (the Stanford leitmotif).

Navy went to 3-0 today, beating Cinncy. UMd got crunched by UCF, 38-10, and lost their second Qb of the season. Terps can't keep their Qb's healthy. Lost several last year and now their doing it again.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Trying to return to normal, I watched some of the Stanford UCLA game.

All I can say is way to go Nerd Nation!

Some interesting and tough games to pick this week:

USC 30 Wash St. 23 - the Mighty Men of Troy face the dreaded Friday night road trap game. Injuries and a tough schedule have the Trojans going in a vulnerable state. But they still have the (Trojan) horses to pull it out. With a 10:30 EST kickoff, it will be no doze time.

Tennessee 27 Georgia 24 - the Vols have looked awful and the Dogs are barking but in Knoxville I'm sensing an upset.

Auburn 20 Miss St. 17 - Miss St. has their one big win already. Close game but they come up short.

Clemson 38 Va Tech 10 - the Hokies fans will be rocking and have an upset shot at home but Clemson is too much. Thanksgiving will come early to the turkey birds and Clemson romps.

The local boys win again as USNA beats Tulsa 31-21 to go 4-0 and UMd Terps win a big game on the road, beating Minnesota 31-24, to reach 3-1 on the season. UMd has to play OSU next so I'm not expecting good news out of that game and the USNA has a tough game with Air Force next. Could be a rough week upcoming for the locals. -- Al

Some interesting games this weekend.

Ohio St. 24 MD 13 - I would love to see the Terps pull an upset but not going to happen at the Shoe. Not impossible but I'm going with the safe pick.

Michigan 17 Mich. St. 13 - this is always a weird game that could go either way. UM is due from some luck though. Harblow's D is the difference.

Stanford 30 Utah 27 - the Trees have looked good and awful. A must win game for them so they pull off the upset over a ranked opponent on the road.

Oregon 47 WSU 43 - WSU goes down with a post-USC hangover. Every PAC team plays USC like it is the Super Bowl and then lays an egg the next week. Upset time. Team Nike runs wild in a shoot out.

I still remember that punt at the end of the Michigan/Michigan State game a few years back. It still feels like the Wolverines never recovered from that.

Very generous to UMd. That 11 point spread is liable to be closer to 30 or 40.:rolleyes2:^&grin -- Al

OSU 41 - MD 7 at the half. ^&grin. Still watching Al? :redface2:
Actually, no. Turned it off when the Nats game got started. Also watching the Navy game, which is going much better than the UMd game. Terps can't muster any offense. 10 minutes left in the 3rd, and the Terps only have 15 yards total offense. {eek3}-- Al

Would you believe a 60+ point spread? OSU leads 62-7 with 7 minutes still to go. Jeesh. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Yes, I thought the Terps might put up a fight but they got rolled. An ugly beat down.

USNA dodged an Air Force launched rocket today. Navy led 28-10 at the half but their defense, which has been iffy all year, completely collapsed in the 2nd half. AF outscored Navy 35- 13 to take a 45-41 lead with 2 minutes left to play. Navy somehow rallied, moved downfield and scored the go ahead TD with less than 30 seconds left, winning the game 48-45. Navy, at 5-0 now, is scoring 37 ppg but their leaky defense is yielding 27 ppg. They were fortunate today. AF can really move the ball, racking up 621 yards to Navy's 557 yards. -- Al

UMd has no business on the same field with OSU. Their recent games, all won by OSU:
2014... 52-24
2015... 49-28
2016... 62-3
2017... 62-14
Terps should leave these boys alone.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Another sad weekend for me in College FB. Seminoles just can't seem to do it. Giving credit where it is due, the Miami QB made a "Sunday back shoulder throw" on FSU's All American CB, so Miami won it folks! The plays before where the defense let them drive the field with a 1minute to go is what kills.

Crazy weekend - OK lost due to a QB not taking what the defense gave him, but trying to go for the jugular on every play, Michigan Lost due to 5, yes 5 turnovers! Nuts

TD

Crazy is right, my two favorite schools lost, OU and Michigan, the OU loss was horrific, smoked by a third string QB, they blew the game when they fumbled a first and goal hand off and Iowa State marched 93 yards down the field, scored a TD and got a two point conversion, game was tied but in effect over at that point.....................

Not many good games this weekend.

USC 30 Utah 24 - The winner is in the PAC South driver's seat. SC has not impressed and has a ton of injuries but on the road the Utes are not that great. The Mighty Trojans get a close one.

Stanford 38 Oregon 20 - the Trees looked dead after losing to San Diego St. but on this Friday the 13th weekend they are back like Jason Voorhees and pluck the Ducks.

Ohio St. 45 Nebraska 17 - Warden Myers seems to have solved his O problems. The Huskers get shucked at home.

Auburn 20 LSU 17 - this one has upset potential. Coach O needs a win to stay employed. Auburn's D looks great though. LSU likely plays with a lot of emotion at home but comes up short.

This is a a strange week as there are no games between ranked opponents.

Yes, but it is off to a wild start with both Clemson and Wash. St. being upset by double-digit underdogs. Clemson was something like a 23 point favorite.
