College Football - finally (3 Viewers)

How about that dope that was going to be the coach for Pitt. What a loser. Good for Pitt for making that call.

I thought you were kidding at first. Not exactly the marquee name most people were looking to hire. He was 75-70 at UCon but that included the move into Div 1. Chris
Indeed. Not the big impact name one would expect. Going to be interesting to see how this works out. This guy could be overwhelmed. -- Al

Hey all, who's going to win the big game? Auburn or Oregon? Haven't seen enough of Oregon to be a believer, but I have seen Auburn score whenever they feel like it. My pick is Auburn. -- Al

Really surprised Wisconsin could only put 19 on TCU. Maybe the Big Ten is so bad that the Badgers looked better than they really were. Some ugly beatings taken by Michigan and Michigan St.

I agree. Oregon runs a one-trick pony offense. It has been very successful, but teams started to scheme it late in the season. The PAC 10 also has some of the weakest defenses in the nation which makes Oregon look better than maybe they are. And if teams like Cal can slow them down, then Auburn has a real good chance. Should be a good game, but I think Auburn has too much talent and experience playing higher quality opponents.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on this one as well- all points. I'm taking Auburn by 13.

The amount of bowl games now is staggering. There's one on every day this week I think and that's before the championship game a week from now. Doesn't seem like that long ago when everything would be settled on New Year's Day and you'd have the top game as the nightcap, e.g. Miami- Nebraska.

True enough. Wait a couple more years and I'm sure EVERYONE will have a bowl game to go to. After all, what's a couple dozen more bowl games, give or take? -- Al

After watching the Auburn-Alabama game, gotta go with Auburn. Chris

I think the amount of bowl games right now is just fine and really wouldn't care if more were added- if it helps the schools and gives the student athletes a chance to have their moments on ESPN then good for them. I personally would like to see each bowl act more like a "sponsor" of a playoff game- like the sweet 64 format however. The number of bowls don't bother me in the least. If the season were cut short by 2 regular season games and the "playoff bowls" Started in late November, then by the time the final 4 are decided, some schools could have a couple trophys in their display cases.

I've said it before, but it's all about the money. You see it in every sport. More games=more TV=more $$'s. As bad as the BCS system is and that's real bad, anyone who supports a college football playoff should think twice because of this. It would keep getting bigger and bigger ever year until they just play year round.

After Saturday's disastrous showing, the Big 10 has another shot at redemption tonight with Ohio State playing Arkansas. The Big 10 vs. another SEC team. Who's going to win. I'm going out on a limb and say Arkansas. Have just lost faith in the Big 10's ability to beat anyone from the South. -- Al

I hope you are right. After the NCAA pounded my Trojans it's hard to stomach allowing Ohio St. getting to play guys who are suspended for five games next year but somehow allowed to play in the bowl game. Tressel should have some guts and suspend them anyway, but it won't happen.

Gotta agree with this. As it happens, those five guys (well, just Prior), won the game for OSU, which tried to throw away a huge lead but hung on to win 31-26. By playing shoulda been suspended players, the Big 10 managed to finally win a bowl game. Congratulations. -- Al

Lost any respect for Tressel. Just another win at all costs college coach. I can't wait until Pryor tells him he is going pro. SC had to suspend a player this season for getting a golf cart ride to practice. And then he had to pay $5 bucks to charity. Hard to make that stuff up.

Isn't it though? No way those 5 players should have been playing in the Sugar Bowl. If their violations were egregious enough to warrant suspension next season, then they should have been gone for the bowl game. Seems a no brainer to me. What a bunch of crap. -- Al

At least the Wash Post has the right idea about Ohio St. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/05/AR2011010500770.html

To make matters worse Pryor has apparently been driving a Denali "on loan" from some car dealership. What a joke. Read this for a good laugh:

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was stopped for traffic violations three times in the past three years while driving cars owned by a car salesman or used-car lot, but an Ohio State investigation determined nothing improper occurred, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Pryor was pulled over twice in early 2010 driving a Dodge that was registered to Auto Direct, a used-car dealership in Columbus. In 2008, Pryor was pulled over driving a 2004 GMC Denali, registered to Aaron Kniffin, a car salesman at Auto Direct. Ohio State was unaware of the 2008 traffic stop, but told the Dispatch it would investigate.

Terrelle Pryor was stopped for traffic violations three times over the last three years driving cars that were not his own, but Ohio State concluded no violations occurred. The use of the Dodge was excused because Pryor's car was in the shop and the dealer reportedly told Ohio State that customers receive temporary loaner cars for extended repairs like the engine replacement that the Buckeyes QB had to wait for.

In the case of the 2004 GMC Denali that Pryor was driving in 2008, Pryor said the following: "I wanted advice from some of my family and friends I trusted to see if it would be a good vehicle for me to maybe buy."

Ohio State received an anonymous letter regarding Auto Direct in July and investigated relationships between the dealership and its athletes. Associate athletic director for compliance Doug Archie said the conclusion was that no NCAA violations had occurred.

According to the Dispatch, "about two dozen" autographed jerseys can be found at the dealership, including those of Pryor, running back Daniel Herron and receiver DeVier Posey. There are also autographs from players on a wall in the dealership.

But Pryor did not remember when he signed the jersey, adding that "I sign a lot of stuff for Buckeye fans - I don't like to turn down fans. But I don't do it to get any favors or discounts."
