Wonder what they will call the people who live now: the Softies?

I heard years ago, the Japanese named the millennia generation The Peach Generation "cause they are easily bruised"
Maybe someone on here can confirm that. I always found it fitting.

They should be forever dumped on for coming up with those skinny legged geans/pants/suit pants; my God are they awful looking................

George,
I for one think you'd look terrific in skinny jeans.

Bullet proof vests stop bullets, that doesn’t mean one who wears one should go around looking to get shot.

Seat belts save lives, that doesn’t mean we should drive like idiots because we can survive the accident.

The same goes for masks, one should absolutely wear a mask when the situation is essential, but that doesn’t mean we should seek out crowds (including family gatherings etc.).

I like both of your names - "Softies" and "Peaches", maybe they should be the Peaches & Cream generation. Yet they are bold enough to tell us how to do everything the "right" way...................horsepuckey.

As an aside, many years ago the company I used to work for owned a facility down in Cherry Hill, NJ that made generic pharmaceutical products and some of those products required DEA licenses. Our on-site DEA specialist was a former Marine (there is no such thing as an ex marine) whose first name was Peaches. I had no idea how he got the name Peaches but he was a very tough no nonsense guy and if you made fun of his name you took your life in your hands.

I've seen many doctors who have said the masks don't help much.I'm not talking about the ones medical workers use but these cheap ones that the straps break after 2 or 3 uses.Like I said before 10 doctors, 11 opinions.

The application of common sense to the known facts confirms that there are significant limitations on the effectiveness of mask wearing. When the virus began, almost no one was wearing a mask. Now in places like NY, PA, Cal and many other states you can't go to a store or restaurant without wearing a mask. Does every numbskull teenager wear one? No. But it is indisputable that the number of people wearing masks is now significantly higher than when this began. And the result? We are having a record number of cases. So mask wearing is not the game changer that the media has suggested for months. If it were, the fact that so many people are now wearing masks and social distancing would be having some effect in reducing the number of cases. But the exact opposite is now happening.

In my opinion, the media significantly overstated the effectiveness of mask wearing because a certain politician was reluctant to wear one. And, by implication, that allowed them to blame him for the spread of the virus. They have also consistently downplayed the effectiveness of a vaccine fearing that it would benefit the person in power when it is distributed. They have cast doubt on its effectiveness to such an extent that many people now are expressing reluctance to take the vaccine.

My self righteous, morally superior woke youngest sister comes to mind, the one who is currently unemployed collecting benefits and living off of handouts from my Mother and my Aunt..............she's in no position to tell me or anyone else how to live their lives, but she does it all the time.

Exhibit A your honor.................

I think one of the drivers currently for the virus is covid fatigue, particularly among young people. There's no way to really lockdown the young at the most social stages of development. So they go hang out with friends, and some get the virus. They then bring it home to unsuspecting family members who wouldn't be wearing masks within their own homes. There are so many factors to consider, but I bet this particular scenario has played out thousands of times, and it muddies the belief that masks are ineffective.

The whole thing is such a sad state of affairs.

So where do you think the increase of infections is coming from? Do you think these are false numbers? We are testing more so we are discovering more infections. I know the media is the "whipping boy" to many politicians but mostly they are simply echoing the consensus of the medical community. Why do you think so many White House staff including the President got infected? We know they do not wear masks consistently and have held events without general mask wearing. Do you agree that this is an airborne transmitted virus?
I also disagree that so many more people are wearing masks. We know that there is mask fatigue and virus deniers out there. In addition to millions of children and college kids going back to schools often with insufficient social distancing more people are going out, more sporting events and more rallies.

The only questions I heard about the vaccine is that it may have been rushed and pressured for activation. And there are many anti-vaccers in this country!
With the current news about its effectiveness I have only heard praise and optimism for the future. But until this vaccine is widely distributed and accepted
we could have many more deaths. It is not helpful to give false hope and then let down our guard, we have not turned the corner and the virus will not disappear.
Fortunately the death rate is a lower percentage because we are better prepared and have new medications and treatments.
I think we are on the same page that masks do make some difference and until the vaccines are ready the only remedy we have is masks, social distancing and hygiene.

Agreed.....

Just listened to Dr. David Calendar, director of the largest health care system in Texas. He was asked on CNBC why cases have jumped up in Texas. He replied that it was due to early openings, people not wearing masks and lack of social distancing especially among young people.

Truth be told, in my 20's/1980's, peg legged pants were in style, a throwback to the 1920's/1930's, pants were baggy in the legs then tapered at the ankles, skinny ties and small shirt collars were a thing too as were pointy toed shoes, all the fellas out in the clubs were dressed to the nines....................that said, skinny legged geans/pants/suit pants look foolish, they are a throwback to nothing except the dumpster.

Styles change all the time, they usually are a throwback to former years, things come and go, I remember when suits came with vests, double breasted suits and such.

Back when I was out in the clubs, Z Cavaricci pants, members only jackets, Girbaud pants and designer geans were all "things"................

I'm guilty too, George. I had some Levi 501's taken in at the ankle in my early 20's. But they weren't truly skinny jeans. They were baggy up top and tapered at the bottom like you said. But I did actually have three pair of skinny jeans in the mid 80's to early 90's. My life was the thrash metal scene in Los Angeles/Hollywood. I often wore what were the actual precursor to skinny jeans, and they were called stretch jeans. The actual brand was "stretchf***ing jeans". So actually I might be guilty of planting the seeds of skinny jean fashion. {eek3}:D

Had routine doctors visit today, he said the following regarding COVID;

It's an airborne virus, you contract it by inhaling droplets from an infected person. You can get it through surface contact, but in all likelihood, you'll get it airborne, surface contact infection is FAR LESS LIKELY.

It's imperative you WEAR A MASK whenever you out in public, stay 6 feet away from others, do not dine indoors, go to movies, go to concerts, go to bars, go to family gatherings like Thanksgiving/Christmas/NYE or any parties or ANY INDOOR gatherings. While it's not 100% certain you will get COVID if you choose to do so, the chances are very good that you will, ie, avoid them and use common sense.

Vaccine will be available in April, will take 6 months to vaccinate the population, 80% of the population needs to get it in order to get it under control, otherwise it's here to stay like the flu only worse as the flu is seasonal, COVID is not.

He guesses we'll return to some sort of normalcy around the Fall of 2021, they need to determine the overall effectiveness of the vaccine, ie, how long will it last, will it be one time deal or will you need it annually or maybe even semi annually depending on duration of effectiveness of the vaccine.

He said anyone who chooses to not get the vaccine takes the same risk as those who don't get an annual flu shot; ie, you could get the flu, you could also get COVID.

He went on to say while the flu shot does not guarantee 100% you will not get the flu, what will happen if you get it is your symptoms will be lessened as will the duration, same with COVID.

He also said mask wearing is going to be a "thing" for a long time...................

Right now we are in “Covid Hell,” as Dr. Michael Osterholm, Director of the Center Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota and a member of Biden’s Coronavirus Team, put it.

Please wear a mask. They work! If you won’t think of yourself, think of others.

My doctors have said almost the same thing but one said with conviction and anger "anyone not wearing a mask is stupid and selfish and shouldn't be your friend!" He has worked in the Covid wards and is understandably emotional.

Just saw a report here in MA that they are reestablishing a field hospital they had set up in a large convention center, there will be 240 beds there for patients, we had it up and running in the Spring, it was shuttered in the late Spring/early Summer, now it's back.

We are truly going backwards, our daily infection rate is at/worse than where it was 6 months ago; it was out of control here in the Spring, we got it remarkably under control over the Summer, now it's coming back in spades.'

The only thing at this point that is going to save us is an effective vaccine, or some sort of medicine/cocktail that you take once you get it to treat it so that it does not ramp up/worsen.

Or both.

And the mask goes OVER the nose. So many people wear it under the nose. The mouth AND nose must be covered.
