And the mask goes OVER the nose. So many people wear it under the nose. The mouth AND nose must be covered.

Joe

So true; when I went to the doctors office today, they have a new system in place. After you check in downstairs and pay your copay or whatever, you are required to sanitize your hands..............then, either throw out the mask you are wearing/put that one in your pocket and they give you a brand new one................

With cases out of control here again, they are doing whatever they can to slow the spread.

I admire their diligence, but we're totally screwed here in MA.

Again.

Hang in there George; help is on the horizon.

Yesterday my wife and I finally decided not to host our family's traditional Thanksgiving dinner as we have always done. This will be the first time in our lives that we have not shared Thanksgiving Day with family. We made our decision for these reasons: We are both 72, my wife is diabetic, 3 of our grandchildren are college age and socially active, 3 of our grandchildren are between the ages of 10 & 15 and active with their friends, our two son-in-laws and one of our daughters are school teachers and are in front of a classroom every other week, my wife's mother is 92 and is currently recovering from partial hip surgery, we would have 15 people in our house, some staying overnight if we hosted the dinner. Just to much uncertainty, and not enough guaranteed social distancing and sanitation precautions for us. Hopefully we will feel better about a family gathering by Christmas.

My Mother is doing the same thing, she has always hosted Thanksgiving, used to be 22 of us, that number has dwindled down to 8, but she decided not to host it this year, she's 88, my girlfriend has asthma, my brother and sister in law are somewhat socially active, my older sister is battling cancer and my Mom is 88, too much risk all around.

It's a tough choice and I'm sure a very difficult decision, but you're doing your part to stop the spread.

The holidays are all about family; this year they have to be all about doing what's best for the greater good.

Kudos to you.................

Mike and George,

With 184,000 new cases yesterday, your families are making a difficult, but correct decision.

Difficult for sure.

Correct for sure as well.

It sucks, but welcome to 2020, what a ****show of a year, one to forget for sure.

It was a very difficult decision, one that almost brought my wife to tears and certainly a big disappointment to our children. Like I said above, in both of our lives (72 years) this will be the very first time that my wife and I have not celebrated Thanksgiving Day surrounded by family.

Hoping for a better Yule Tide.

Mike

Our family has also made the decision to not hold the traditional family get together and my daughter-in-laws baby shower is also on the edge of being called off next month. Just too much danger and uncertainty to take the chance. 2020 can kiss my heiney. My wife has lost a cousin to covid and I have lost several friends from my work days at the FD. This all just sucks so bad it's impossible to put into words. Everyone must do what they feel best, but we all must try to do our best for others by staying within the health guidelines and that means no get togethers this year. Stay well, all. -- Al

I wish the whole country acted the way most of our forum members are doing. We need to fight this Virus as Americans not as political parties, the same way we beat the Fascists in WWII.
My microbiologist nephew who works for a major pharmaceutical company told that this vaccine looks to be very effective (over 90%) and relatively safe. He only worries that too many people
will refuse to take it.

I asked my doctor yesterday "What if I get the vaccine but others don't, how is that going to impact me?"

His reply "You'll be fine, those who don't; not so much".......................

It will be like the flu shot; if you get it, your chances of getting the sick goes down, but more importantly, if you get it, your symptoms will be milder.

And spare me the "Well there are new strains every year of the flu that the shot won't protect you against"...........fine, good for you if that's your reason for not getting it.

I got mine 10 days ago.

For those who refuse to get the COVID vaccine; Gods speed to you.

George, I don't nor ever have gotten a flu shot. It has not negatively effected me, the flu is probably the worst exact science out there as it ranges from the common cold to death. My Doctor and I have this conversation every year, at the end of the day, due to my history, he basically told me that for me, getting the shot would be more perception than anything else because you would have to figure I have been exposed to the flu every year with my Travel schedule that I have kept for 20 years. So who knows on the flu shot.

I will get the COVID vaccine as they are very different animals to deal with. COVID vaccine from what I read is more like a chicken pox vaccine, it is not just a shot but a true vaccination. For me that is a big difference.

That said, we are not postponing Tgiving as there are 5 of us who have been together throughout this virus, our risks are what they are, but again, TDay is no different than any other day for us.

Understood.................I hope the COVID vaccine turns out to be a one time deal, you get it and you're good to go.

If they determine it's 90% effective/there is a 10% chance you could still get COVID, then it will be up to me as to what risks I want to take and what would be acceptable vs not acceptable.

If it is indeed only 90% effective, then mask wearing would be a fall back plan and I'd hate to think that's something that would be on the table the rest of my life.

If a go to a toy soldier show/sporting event/concert/have dinner/go to a family gathering/social event, I'll have to decide if I want to wear a mask or not.

Hell of a thing.

It's my hope they come up with one that is 100% effective so we can get on with our lives worry free.

George...

I plan to get the vaccine...
and we're gonna be wearing masks for a while still after that...
at least I will...

even once the vaccine is administered to the general public...
a lot of people won't get it...

I'm sick about people crying about having to wear a mask...
those who opt not to get the vaccine...
and refuse to wear a mask...
should be made to wear a bracelet...
or be on a national registry...
that if they get covid...
they willingly give up medical care and a hospital bed once they do get sick...^&grin

and it's my understanding that a booster shot will be necessary after the first inoculation...

Tom,
I know we joke around a lot in posts and whenever we chat on the phone, but truth be told, I'm very relieved that two weeks out from Eddie's NJ show you and your son are in the clear from COVID, I know everyone was wearing masks, but still, glad you're ok......................

The comical thing is I'm used to the mask now, I actually have a neck gator, put it around my neck before I go out, hoist it up and put the loops over my ears when I get out of my jeep, unhook it and pull it down once I sanitize my hands when I get back to the jeep, it will be nice to wear in the winter when it gets cold, I tuck it into my jacket, it's nice and snug....................it is what it is, it's minor inconvenience, not a big deal, I plan on wearing it regardless of when I get the vaccine until we're at 0 new cases, 0 deaths...........................and that's that.

Yes, you will need a booster or a second dose three weeks later. Some of the other proposed vaccines require only one dose.

Since the vaccine needs to be maintained at very cold temperatures, -94 F, a run on freezers is developing.

a run on freezers...serious???

who is buying freezers?

families...
hospitals...
Big Pharma...

isn't the vaccine's large scale public availability still 6-8 moths off?

Hospitals for one. See https://nypost.com/2020/11/14/pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-spurs-wave-of-freezer-panic-buying/

Pharma companies shouldn’t have these problems. I used to work on cold storage agreements for some of our products but obviously the demand wasn’t anything like what will be needed here.

aaaaaaaay-yi-yi!

one thing after another...fascinating!!!

okay...
whatever it takes...
hope Biden pushes Frigidaire...GE...or whatever commercial company is making these...
and gets ahead of the curve on distribution...
