All,

Mike thank the heavens that you got your first round. That IS the best news I have heard all week. Yeah, that would bring some peace of mind. I am happy for you.

Combat, I think I predicted 250,000 by the end of the year back in March/April time frame. Sadly, it is surpassed any of our wildest notions.

Yeah, saw a whole family walking around yesterday with out a care in the world with no masks and no evidence that they even had one on their person. I was aghast. It was an interesting scene as they walked by the Trump Tower mask less in Waikiki.

In New York we can now be eligible for the vaccine at 65 and over. I called several of the vaccine locations and the message back was that there were 30,000 plus calls ahead of mine just to make an appointment!
The speed of developing a vaccine was very impressive but the actual distribution of the vaccine has been grossly mishandled.

Some states appear to be using the vaccine distribution process as a way to shake down the federal government for money. There are potentially hundreds of millions of dollars that some states are hoping to get to facilitate this process once Biden takes over. So an intentionally slow roll out is to their advantage. Others are just completely incompetent. PA is in terrible shape. NY seems even worse.

Richard...
I agree...
the vaccine was approved on December 18th...
I would think it would be a priority to make a supply at warp speed and then distribute as fast as they can...
not sure if the problem is the supply or distribution...
but the daily death tolls are unacceptable...
every person that gets inoculated...is one less person that can spread the virus...
the only thing I can say to make an excuse for the slow distribution is the controlled temperature required to transport it...

here is an article that was updated 2 days ago...

I'm participating in the Pfizer vaccine study and got injections back in August. Of course, I didn't know whether I got the vaccine or a placebo. But last week the study informed me that I did get the vaccine. (They're letting people know because my age group is now eligible in TX.) I celebrated by getting my first haircut in a year.

Bob...

hat's off to you for volunteering to participate in the study...
that was a noble cause...
thank you for that!

congrats on not getting the placebo too...^&grin
bet your hair was pretty long...

NJ is changing its rules and is making the vaccine available to anyone 65 and over. According to what I read this morning the vaccines should be available within a few days. I think the rollout may be chaotic but that remains to be seen.

If you haven’t registered and wish to do so, go to https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/

It only takes about 10 minutes to do so. Also check your local hospital’s website.

So far Massachusetts doesn’t have any type of registry. They’ve done hospital staff and started first responders this week. Next is community homes, nursing homes etc.

I assume then the general population, starting with the older members will get going. With no registration, I have no idea how they plan to do that phase.

I was contacted by NYU Langone, the hospital where my physicians have their offices, and told that they had all my information, and would let me know when I qualified to get the vaccine, at which point I could schedule an appointment. I get periodic updates if the rules for availability change, etc. I am very happy with the NYU Langone approach to getting their patient's vaccinated in the correct order.

An update from Brisbane.

One of the hotels used for quarantine in CBD has had 6 cases (in three pairs) connected to the same floor. Hotel has been evacuated. Now they are talking about incoming international passengers being sent to a remote mining camp for quarantine. Unfortunately those in that hotel have had their quarantine started again.

One of the six cases was a hotel cleaner who passed it to her husband but despite her many other contacts nobody else so far has caught it outside of the hotel.

The speed of developing a vaccine = private industry

The slow pace of distribution = the government

I agree 100%. I just don't understand how the U.S. military medical departments have not been assigned to assist in the innoculations. There are literally thousands of military physicians, nurses, and other qualified medical personnel who could be safely and quickly distributing the vaccine all over the United States.

This is not completely fair. The Trump Administration with Operation Warp Speed deserves some credit for the Moderna vaccine coming to market. They do get some blame for not being quick enough to take steps in the spring, such as invoking the National Defense Production Act.

Hopefully, the problems with the distribution problems, which has a lot to do with our decentralized system, will be ironed out soon.

Louis,

I think because they are busy inoculating active military personnel who CAN'T get sick worldwide. If it was reported that our military was even close to being hankered by the virus, that would send a critically bad message to our enemies. I remember a long time ago some General...somewhere...stopped the reporting the amount of active duty personnel who had contracted the virus and that was last I heard of it. In fact, we haven't heard anything about the status of our innoculations and our service members if you think about it. When they are are sorted out, then they would turn the populace.

HOWEVER COMMA, the Reserves and Guard are a different story and indeed could be called to assist in the distribution of the virus. I believe that would be a wise move as it brings a different "presence" or "authority" to the process. But, I really, really think that the Pentagon is going to be hesitant putting anyone in uniform (active or reserve) in contact with the general public. That decision would have to come straight from the top and currently the focus is the protection of the Capital and State Capitals in the coming days. It seems the mission has changed for them nationwide. If this mess in DC was not an issue nor in the 50 states I think the response would be different.

So, what to do? Dunno

And yes the fact that the vaccines has to be refrigerated is a whole other ball of wax. When I was at the VA clinic in SA a couple of weeks back one of the staff was telling me that the refrigerators has just arrived...and they were big and expensive. There is so much logistics and planning done in order to get that shot in the arm that I think we can't even conceive how complex it is. Yeah, its a mess, but it is slowly churning itself out. We Americans are impatient people and our patience has been pushed to the limit and it is hard to accept prioritization, categorization and of course the inevitable wait lines. We are a "want it now" society and I'm with you on this and though we quarterback here on the forum of calling the plays...we are not in charge. It just sucks y'know to watch people die when we have the vaccine in hand.

Hi all

Here’s some more very good video and article links on the Covid-19 issue.

From the CDC website: COVID-19 Provisional Counts - Weekly Updates by Select Demographic and Geographic Characteristics

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#Comorbidities

Go down to table 3, you can see Covid-19 deaths and then the deaths from other comorbidities and injuries which are included in the total Covid-19 deaths. As you can see, most people die with Covid-19, but not directly from it. I'm not making light of this, all deaths are tragic, but the media are making out that Covid-19 is killing masses of people which clearly is not the case.

Furthermore (the following info is not on the CDC link above but is my opinion based on science), Facts show there is around a 99.96% recovery rate (varies between the age brackets with younger people having around a 99.99% recovery rate) from Covid-19 for people under 65 years of age. For people over this age, the recovery rate is around 94.5%. Facts also show vitamins D, Zinc and C help build up a person's immunity and can prevent people from getting sick from Covid-19. Facts also show that therapeutics such as Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin (in conjunction with Zinc and an antibiotic) can cure most people, especially the elderly and vulnerable that struggle with Covid-19. With all this, why is experimental and rushed vaccines needed? These vaccines are producing dangerous side effects in people (refer to video link below) and the companies that produce them have been given full indemnity from Governments from being sued from people that suffer vaccine injuries. Would you ingest a product that has liability protection and you have no chance in getting compensation?

Hey Tom my brother!

I was at the gas station today by Wheeler AFB and pumping away at $3.95 a gallon and this big Hawaiian/Tonga looking guy (tribal tats and all) was pumping at the next pump. He stared at me and pointed to his mask. I was confused for a moment and realized I was mask less. I DID NOT hesitate to put my mask on in front of him as I did not want to be a Long Pig. These Hawaiian brothers take the mask serious even in the beautiful weather. On the whole, the entire State is super strict about social distancing, masks and testing. In fact, my wife has been told twice by islanders to please stay 6 feet away. The highway bulletin boards blare COVID numbers daily and I get it...its an island.

Now, about freezing the family jewels before getting the vaccine? Thats an article I gotta read. Wow.

Best,

John from Texas

Some incredible numbers this week. Over 300K new cases per day and 4k deaths. Amazing. And the media is still consumed with politics. This is a distant second in the news. You have wonder how long those kinds of numbers can continue before it starts having wider societal impact. At this rate it could start to impact the provision of basic services in the near future. And many states are still sitting on their hands waiting for money before distributing the vaccine. It might be time to open the gates and forget about prioritizing. Just give the vaccine to anyone who wants it until they run out.

Out here in CA we're now averaging 44,000 new documented infections per day. The numbers are staggering. The CDC says the numbers are likely many times higher since many infected folks are not tested, don't go to the doctor, and/or never develop symptoms. Also reported by the CDC this week, new data indicates 59% of all infections are spread by asymptomatic carriers of the virus, 24% of whom never develop symptoms at all yet still spread the virus. But the media would rather talk about nothing but politics. It's as if the media is in complete denial about the amount of people who are dying each day. I guess they feel as though people have Covid fatigue, and politics must be what keeps viewers tuned in. Maybe when the subject of Covid comes up people change the channel. It's a sad state no matter how you look at it.
