We received notice that we were eligible to make appointments and gave us a link to make appointments. Unfortunately, no appointments available and I don’t know when appointments will be available. I assume there is no inventory of vaccines left.

I saw Dr. Michael Osterholm, who is on Biden’s transition team, being interviewed today. I’ve seen him interviewed several times but this time he could barely control his anger about the existing distribution plan. He said there basically wasn’t one and one would have to be built from the ground up.

Thanks for the update Brad. Sounds like they'll have much work to do to disperse the vaccine. I really don't understand why more attention wasn't given to this. It's like hitting a home run, and then stopping at third! Hopefully the new team is up for the challenge and can record the save. I'm glad your eligible to make an appointment now, and I hope you get a slot soon!

On top of all that Joe, the CDC is saying that the variant first discovered in the UK could become the dominant source of infection by March and further strain already strained system.

All,

I've never seen such beautiful sunsets like the ones in Hawaii. I board in two hours and am 3 Crown and waters deep. Anyway, before I get too sloshed to even be coherent, its been a good trip. Lots of amazing sights and scenery. However, there is always this nagging irritation in the back of my mind...COVID, the Capital riots, coming back stateside and all the drama that comes with it.

I heard last night that there is the potential of losing some 90K people in the next few weeks. Good gawd...this is terrible and the wife said a person is dying every 6 seconds in California. Jeezzzzus. I had to remind the gang today that we have to put our COVID game faces on again when we get stateside with constant washing of hands, sanitizer and social distancing. I mean we have been good here too (over good) or else the locals will remind you! But, today was miserable with temps getting a little warm and the hustle and bustle of trying to get to the airport. Real world problems y'know...HA!

Anyway, Gents we I and the family get back to Texas it will be lock down time again and to imagine next month will be a full year with the COVID virus...if not earlier. Hella year my friends, hella year. God pray for a better one this year.

John from Texas

Aw John, if you seen one sunset, you've seen them all. Too bad you couldn't visit the other islands. Glad you had a good trip.

Brad,

That's quite chilling, I must say, and even more reason to be anxious to get the vaccine asap. I just hope the new team finds the best way forward for all and develops a framework to move things along with as much speed and precision as possible given the huge population awaiting treatment. It must be a logistical nightmare with the time urgency component added and special handling/storage requirements of the vaccines.
A hopeful note...
The J & J vaccine is a very different formulation and could help facilitate things quite a bit, but we still don't know its effectiveness (but we'll learn that soon).

Ah, but GFB we loved it so much there the wife and I are planning a Jan and Feb 2 monther trip next year, with a visit to Maui and you my friend. I mean we absolutely LOVED IT there. I just wish there was a Whataburger...HAHA. No brother we did indeed got to Helena's and had some authentic Hawaii eats, Zippys for the spam, chili and chicken and of course Korean BBQ. Went to Yoshitsune the night before we left and down 4 big bottle Asahi "extra" dry and we contemplated staying one more day to go back to the North Shore as the report said the waves were going to be 35 t0 45 feet. We saw 25 to 35 and that was awesome, but up to 50? Good lord I don't know how those surfers do it.

Hope you make it to Maui next year. Sounds like you like a drink or five, just like me. Maui has good high end restaurants, but no good low and mid-priced eats like Oahu. About 30-years ago, an eight foot wave took my pants right off to the ankles and broke the leash from my board. When the next wave came in, I had to decide whether to dive under the wave or pull my shorts up. I pulled my shorts up. Then took a thrashing. Like being in a washing machine.

Here in the UK, the news is all about the variants from Brazil and South Africa as well as the UK one !

My 90 year old Mum got her first Pfizer jab yesterday, but it looks like it could be twelve weeks before she gets the second.

Steve...

I thought both Moderna and Pfizer both had a 4 week wait for the 2nd vaccine...
no more than 4 weeks for the second shot as it might not be as effective...
is that not right for the Pfizer 2nd dose?

I got the Moderna and am scheduled to get the 2nd vaccine 28 days later...

Hi Mike

UK Government has decided here so far (as Moderna has only just been approved,) that Pfizer and Oxford jabs can be up to twelve weeks apart so that more people will benefit from the initial jab, that offers a good part of the protection ! I should probably add this is on the NHS.

Not what I would prefer for My Mum, who had the Pfizer jab but, there it is !

For myself still some time off. Though I have been furloughed again, so at least that means I won't be going into general public's homes.

Steve...I did not know that...but if that's the case...it sounds like a good plan to get as many first inoculations as soon as possible...to provide some initial protection to help stop the spread...

It looks like my uncle and ex girlfriend have weathered the COVID storm. Thankfully both are all but recovered.

I appreciate the enthusiastic debate on this thread and I respect everyone’s opinion, but I have to say, nothing puts all of this in perspective more than having someone close to you getting infected with this disease.

Was just talking to a friend in UK who has just returned there from Hong Kong. She said there was zero Covid controls or questions etc as her plane load of people arrived. 10 minutes to get through. She could not believe it.

She had however done quarantine upon arrival in HK.

We managed to get appointments but not until the middle of April. Will be trying to get ones sooner.

Hi all

Here’s some more very good video and article links on the Covid-19 issue.

Short video explaining how facemasks can cause harm and the spread of Covid-19. The video shows the science and how facemasks are also harmful to children

This article link is pretty well much self explanatory but it’s proof that this is how we should be approaching the Covid-19 issue

Seeing Tom's link to Norway and knew what it was about as been mentioned a lot in Oz in part few days.

"The Norwegian Medicines Agency linked 13 deaths to the corona vaccine’s side effects. Those who died had two things in common – they were old and frail.A total of 23 deaths have been reported in connection with the corona vaccination".The Norwegian Medicines Agency and the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) jointly assess all side effects reports.

As a result, the FHI has updated the corona vaccination guide with new advice on the vaccination of frail elderly people.“If you are very frail, you should probably not be vaccinated,” Steinar Madsen at the Norwegian Medicines Agency said at a webinar on corona vaccine for journalists on Thursday".

Noreays population is similar to state of Qld where we have had 6 Covid deaths. 13 deaths linked to the vaccine in a short period is far more significant than 6 in the past 10 months. Australia is seeking further info from Norway.

The hospital situation has been unusual to say the least. During the first few months of Covid in Oz I was talking weekly to an ICU nurse in a major Brisbane hospital. He said things were very quiet inside the hospital in general as they had reduced patients to 40% of capacity. They were even trying to get staff to take leave as not enough work to do. This was in contrast to Government and Health Dept comments which made out that staff were risking their lives on the frontline against and were overworked. It was total BS. The staff directly involved in handling Covid cases wouid be very small compared to total number in Qld Health. However useful for Govt and Unions to claim overworked as helps in asking for pay increases and ensuring compliance with instructions etc. They always seem to forget about all the Health services that were shut down or suspended for months.

I listened to a radio show from UK that discussed a UK hospital (Glouceter ?). Female got inside and filmed as she walked around. Not seen the footage but described a very quiet hospital which was in contrast to what Hospital was claiming. Likewise heard a commentator from LA describe passing empty car park outside a big hospital.

It is hard to know which news to trust in some cases.

Brett, can I ask is HK Covid free at the moment and do travellers to the UK have to mandatory isolate for a couple of weeks before they can enter society?

Cheers.
