Toddy,
Two weeks ago they had 40 cases in one day which was good. However latest is 107 in one day so been on the rise again.

Friend did 14 days hotel quarantine when entered HK and had a test before went back to UK.

Restaurants doing it very tough in HK. I believe at one point had to be closed at 6pm but they changed that and now can't have more than 2 per table.

That's interesting.

Our health minister has just announced yesterday as of Monday week, anyone wanting to enter NZ (except Australian's) must now prove they've had a negative Covid test within 72hrs of leaving their country before they'll be allowed in. If you fail to do this you'll cop a nasty fine on arrival.

This is on top of already requiring all travellers (including returning Kiwi's) to spend 14x days in one of our isolation facilities which are all guarded by the military and police.

My daughter who was diagnosed with leukemia a few years ago just became eligible to receive the vaccine under PA guidelines. There are, however, no places in the local area where it can be obtained. None. Some of the small pharmacies have a waiting list but of unknown duration. And the kicker is that the person in charge of PA's rollout of the vaccine, Rachel Levine, has just been tapped to be the assistant health secretary in the incoming administration! You can't make that up. A total failure at the state level now being promoted to the national effort. Among other things, this person secretly pulled their own mother out of a nursing home while telling everyone else it was perfectly safe to remain there.

Doug...

I know it's frustrating trying to gat an appointment for a vaccine...
I tried for several weeks...

if her PCP is affiliated with a major hospital...
or even just an associate of any hospital...
contact him and ask for help registering her...
they can open doors that you can't...
you may have to drive a bit...
but it's worth it...

my PCP is not affiliated with my local hospital...
and they seemed to play favorites with their own doctor's patients getting appointment...
referring me to my out of town PCP...my local CDC or my local Health Department...
it was frustrating...
they were only wanting to help their own hospital's doctors schedule and not helping others schedule...
selective servicing...

my diabetes doctor however is on their staff...
I contacted him and he lined mine up for me...

I am struggling to understand why anyone even needs a doctor to do this for you...
some people don't even have PCPs...
how do they get appointments?

The reason Rachel Levine has been promoted to national office has nothing to do with competency. Chris

Received a My Chart message from my PCP yesterday. In Wisconsin, starting January 25th, the vaccine will be available to those 65 years old and older. I filled out the provided "very interested" form which does not necessarily gaurantee a sooner appointment but does provide my PCP that I definitely want one.

Now the entire country can share our pain. The rollout has been a complete bust in PA. I'm not sure if it is total incompetence or some intentional bureaucratic effort to shakedown the feds for additional money but it is akin to murder. Got word this morning that a family friend who had to have knee surgery acquired the virus. Died without being ever able to see her family again. No one being held accountable.

That's terrible.

I hope your daughter can get the vaccine very soon. I was hoping that the new administration might be able to get this sorted, but it won't happen with hires like Rachel Levine. Is there no one more qualified?? I guess it's just all about ticking boxes these days as opposed to meritocracy.

What an absolute nightmare. I'm afraid it won't be the last case like this that we will hear of or experience ourselves. The vaccine roll out is just an uncoordinated mess, and the chaos is killing more of us with each passing day.

Yesterday I pulled to the side of the road along with a bunch of other cars as an ambulance sped by. Everyone knew someone was hurt and cooperated to let the ambulance attend to the emergency. I mean everyone. 100%. 100% of the time. What's amazing is we can not get the entire nation to cooperate with the pandemic.

it's that way here too in Texas...
100%...
I never see anyone not yield to an ambulance when they are trying to come through...
the decent thing to do!

Not posting this for any controversy, but when I read posts about non compliance nationwide, I think generalizations are incorrect. For instance, I have seen the State of Florida bludgeoned on the news, but when you actually dig into statistics, they are doing pretty well, my parents live there full time in the Winter, they are there now and frankly, there words were it is refreshing to see a lot of things open. They also indicated that there are strict procedures in place everywhere they have gone but things are open. Their schools are open, their beaches are open, most business are, etc. That said, regarding dining, they have a huge advantage with warm weather in that most of their dining is outdoors so it was easier to stay open. My parents also indicated that the vaccines appear to have a very orderly process. They are unable to get their vaccine there due to timing of schedule for them, but their friends who are full time, have or are scheduled for vaccinations.

Point I am making is that again, our press is too quick to find the oddities and the reporting is suspect at best. Too much motive for these articles. The best facts are on the ground in your own State and again, making generalizations about the rest of the Country isn't really fair or accurate at this point. (early on it may have been as IMO the whole Country was a disaster with NO one knowing what to do or trying to lead)

Regarding vaccinations, a whole other ball of wax. I do believe the Feds did a good job of getting it ready as well as making it available to the States. Unfortunately, that is where the massive FUBAR has occurred. The States themselves are mucking up the distribution. Some States are doing better than others. However, IMO, if the States who are doing poorly want to blame anyone, my first reaction is Look in the Mirror and be responsible. This NEEDS to improve or there will continually be stories like Doug has posted. It is sad and infuriating.

Tom,

I agree wholeheartedly, particularly about the media. There is no news anymore. No reporting of unbiased facts. There's only propaganda outlets for each political party. One group of media outlets has praised everything Biden has done like he is the second coming. The other group of media outlets has accused Biden of being the worst leader since Hitler and Stalin. Both are more than a little over the top, considering the guy has been in office for 48 hours. It would be nice to get some unbiased factual reporting about the virus and what is being done to get vaccines in arms, but at this point, I have no idea where to find this unicorn.:redface2:

Louis I particularly liked your 'second coming' comment. According our main-stream media here in NZ your new president has definitely fallen from the gods and its all going to be bubble gum and rainbows from now on.

While its typical and also very convenient for new governments the world over to blame their predecessors for the so-called mess they have inherited, that sort of rhetoric is generally only tolerated for so long.

Regardless of whose running the show and rolling out vaccines & mRNA to 50 odd states in the US this was always going to be a huge logistical challenge and still is.....

I think Texas has done a decent job managing the vaccine, they have done a better job than most at balancing public health and economic sustainment.

However, they have done an awful job at vaccine management and distribution. For a State Government that prides itself on independence from the Federal Government they can’t blame anyone but themselves.

So on Thursday I had a dull headache all day, took 4 Tylenol, finally went away................Friday as I started to work, I had an upset stomach, as the day went on, I felt tired, went home early and laid down.

I dozed off and woke up hot.......VERY hot.........took my temperature, 101.1...................holy ****, don't even tell me....................had the chills and had body aches too......called my doctor, arranged for a COVID test today.

Had a terrible nights sleep, the dull headache came back, woke up drenched, took my temperature............101.8................God no, please, not this.

I've lived like a Monk the past 11 months; supermarket twice a week, post office three times a week, CVS once a month, gas once a month, pet food store once a month, haircut once a month, I wear a mask everywhere, haven't talked face to face with anyone less than 6 feet away with both wearing masks, how is this possible?

As many of you know, I am a one man company; I can't just shut down for 14 days or whatever, but what choice would I have.

Woke up, felt a bit better actually, went and got the test; easy as pie, drive up testing facility, waited about 15 minutes, swap your nostrils and you're done.

They took my temperature; 98.6???..........What??

Got the test result ten minutes ago; NEGATIVE..................THANK GOD..................what a relief.

That shot can't come fast enough for me................

Latest projections are that the number of US deaths will soon reach around 600K and there is nothing that can be done to keep that from happening. That's another 200K deaths in the coming months. Still no one being held responsible for the delay in approving the vaccine and the problems with the rollout. Just vague generalizations. Fauci is all over the place again. He talks about the failures of the process as though he is an observer instead of a major participant. Unreal.
