this is the Phase 1B in Texas criteria...
maybe where you live is different...

Who’s getting the vaccine now?

If you are a front-line healthcare worker or resident of a long-term care facility, you are eligible now to receive the vaccine, since December 14. This group is considered Phase 1A.
If you are in Phase 1B, you are also eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, depending on availability and the vaccine provider. Vaccine supply remains limited, but more vaccine will be delivered to providers each week. Phase 1B recipients include:

  • People 65 years of age and older
  • People 16 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as but not limited to:
    • Cancer
    • Chronic kidney disease
    • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
    • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
    • Solid organ transplantation
    • Obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher)
    • Pregnancy
    • Sickle cell disease
    • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Mike, Louis, TD and Toddy,

Thanks for the well wishes fellas! I really appreciate it.

Mike,

There's a cold one waiting for us to drink. No, there are more than just one. I will be heading out your way regardless of TTSS for a concrete recon trip this year. Ill keep you posted.

Louis,

May be back in NY this Spring...I'll keep you posted. But a DC, NJ, Philly, NY trip is on the wife's mind and the kids are stoked. She wants to rent one of those super lux RV's and do the trip. I guess I will be driving. She better pack a cooler full of Fajitas.

TD,

The Airline are acting so silly now a days. Alaska Airlines booked us on a flight, cancelled us and asked us to join another. TRANSLATION: They packed two flights into one, dogs, pee-pee pads and all. My consolation prize was Zip lock bag with a bottle of water, Belveta cookies and a wet nap. Thank god I had Crown with me.

Toddy,

There are rumors that the kids and the wife want to do a NZ-Australia trip. I told them fine, but there WILL BE toy soldiers and friends down under on the itinerary.

Best to you my friends,

John from Texas

PS: If you hear from me on Thursday that means I am on a road trip from Seattle to San Antonio. IF you don't...I'm sipping a My-Tai on Waikiki beach.

John mate, you and your family would love the south Pacific if you can ever make it down under. Both NZ and Oz are very different countries, but both full of different things to do and experience and fun places to visit.

Brad...
maybe you are younger than I thought...
but being 65 years old automatically qualifies you...
you don't need anymore than that...
age is enough...
no underlying illness is necessary...

Michael,

I wish! We are both over 65 so we fall in Group 1C.

Brad...

one of us is misreading the criteria...
it's probably me...

but the way I read it...
if you're over 65...
that's all you need to qualify for Phase 1B...
unless your state is different...

Phase 1B recipients include:

Michael,

It varies by state. Although NJ has not ruled out final rules, people over 75 are in 1B and people 65 and over are in 1C.

Brad...

our states have different criteria...
that explains that...

as it's a government funded vaccine and plan...
I thought the criteria would be universal state to state...

Michael,

That’s the problem. Our country doesn’t have one uniform set of rules. It’s the nature of our federal system.

Very sad to hear stories of senior citizens waiting all night to get the vaccine. My parents found out by word of mouth that a local health clinic would be giving the vaccine. And they had to wait in their car for about three hours to get it. There was apparently no outreach to inform anyone in the area of the distribution location or time. Someone they knew just happened to tell them. The National Guard should be setting up tents and giving the shots out by the thousands as quickly as someone can walk through the line. As I understand it, millions of doses of the vaccine have been distributed but not given out. That is criminal negligence on behalf of someone. If you run a stop sign and kill someone, you will be prosecuted. But hundreds or thousands of people can die each day from incompetence and no one holds them responsible.

Supposedly in Maryland our National Guard will be part of the distribution. I am following as I have parents who should fall into Phase 1B. No real hard news yet.

All,

These stories y'all are talking about regarding getting the vaccine is MADNESS.

I'm speechless at the incompetence and the abuse.

My parents just got their first round of vaccination. It’s amazing the amount of relief and hope that brings. Thank you to everyone who made that possible. All the heroes in science, public office, public health and healthcare.

They had to wait for 5 hours in the car including after the shots to make sure they didn’t have reactions.

That’s in Lake Norman, NC.

John,

Does this mean you didn't make it to Hawaii? If so, I am sorry to hear it, and hope that you and your family are safe and well.

Louis,

So, we went to this COVID testing place first thing this morning that was in a under building garage. The staff was in the boiler room and came out with the test kids. We swabbed ten swirls in each nostril and we were off. All day we have been waiting around to wait for our results. In the back of mind I was already planning how I would road trip it back with 6 people in a van. The only good thing during our wait was that the sun came out here in Seattle and man it was a beautiful day. The silent stress was killing me so I took a nap and woke up and just watched youtube videos for the rest of the day. The wife was snappy all day and the kids went for a hike with my niece.

About an hour ago the first round of results came in...the wife was clear, my two kids were clear, I tested negative and then we waited for our kids friends. Sydney finally came back negative and my daughter friend's test was still in the queue. She started crying over the stress of waiting as she did not want to be the only one who didn't get a negative. She even started praying. Then her test came and she tested negative. So...WE ARE HAWAII BOUND!

Good god that was a huge relief! All the kids practically broke down with tears of joy and the wife and I breathed a huge sigh of relief for not having to drive back from Seattle to San Antonio. Man, the Hawaii Gods looked down on us with favor this time and when I get there I will thank them.

True to form one of our members from Maui extended a invitation to visit him in Maui for a cold one and if I can I will. My friends you will not hear from me for a spell...again. However, I am grateful for you my friends and I am happy to start out this year with a visit to paradise. I will spend some time having fun, but will also spend some time in reflection hoping for a better year for all of us.

Best,

John from Texas

PS: I was stopped at TSA in San Antonio for a back pack search. The officer pulled out 7 mini Crown Royal bottles and then stopped and looked at me. I chuckled and told him no booze is served at the airports in Washington and California. He laughed and gave me my back pack back and said "have a good trip". For the record, I had 12 Crown Royal mini's.

I am doing my best to keep things in perspective but it is all but insulting to see Type 2 diabetes singled out in Texas but not Type 1 diabetes.

According to my endocrinologist (who has been my doctor forever and who trust implicitly) Type 1 diabetics who contract COVID die at a much higher rate than general public while those that “recover” will likely face long term damage to their major organs.

Oh well......

I wish you and your family a happy, healthy, safe and wonderful trip to Hawaii, and am thrilled to hear you are all Covid-free!:salute::

When you get to New York, drinks and dinner are on me!

I don't know how Type 1 slipped through the early shot criteria...
that needs to be revised...
it doesn't make sense how Type 2's are allowed early shots and Type 1's are not...
and I have read a few articles on line with complaints from HIV+ people not being allowed to get early shots...

Just heard the news that Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) is heading into an immediate 3x day city wide lockdown.

Hopefully its only for three days and Queensland boarders aren't also closed?

Take care guys.

Yesterday (Thursday) we decided to cancel our trip commencing Friday to visit mother in law in nursing home in NSW. Today I received a text from the nursing home that no visitors from Greater Brisbane are allowed. Lucky we canceled, otherwise we would have been on the road today.
