All,

I wasn't around during POLIO, but uh that one affected you physically. Hell our President at the time was debilitated by it. Like I mentioned before, if COVID had visible effects this narcissistic selfie nation (or world) of ours would be lining up for miles to get vaccinated. Y'know you can't post on Instagram or facebook or whatever if you had Covid "bumps' or if you had Covid "eye", whereby your left eye bulged out and dripped puss. Just sayin.

Im getting a tonsillectomy this Wednesday and I am and ain't looking forward to it. I am because it will finally ride me of some side ailments I get from those **** things and I ain't cause apparently it is a SOB recovery. So, since I won't be able to talk or work outside you may see me posting here for the next couple of weeks and I beg your pardon if my spelling or grammar is bad due to pain med brain. The worst part is I won't be able to have my beloved chips and salsa for a good while.

Anyway, the COVID struggle continues and I saw on the news a story about a mother of 6 from Florida who was a loud and proud no COVID shot kind of gal. She got it, spread it to her six unvaccinated children and had a 20% chance of living, but made it through. She mea cupla-ed on national TV about regretting her anti-vax attitude against the COVID vax and has now found religion and is beating the drum to get vaccinated. She's lucky she did not leave her children motherless due to the "just wait and see" attitude.

I watched another COVID story where a family lost their dad/husband and then got the bill for his hospital stay...4 million.

From the UK Daily Telegraph. Not the whole article as before could copy remainder asked me to subscribe.
Does not surprise me at all and gives a totally different perspective to what is happening. Then you have to wonder about any subsequent deaths from the 56% who did not know had Covid when admitted for other causes. No doubt counted as Covid. Note the bit about NHS not providing the requested breakdown of data.
Another issue we have in Oz is many reports of Covid found in sewage from multiple areas which have never had a reported case.
More than half of Covid hospitalisations are patients who only tested positive after admission, leaked data reveal.
The figures suggest vast numbers are being classed as hospitalised by Covid when they were admitted with other ailments, with the virus picked up by routine testing.
Experts said it meant the national statistics, published daily on the government website and frequently referred to by ministers, may far overstate the levels of pressures on the NHS.
The leaked data – covering all NHS trusts in England – show that, as of last Thursday, just 44 per cent of patients classed as being hospitalised with Covid had tested positive by the time they were admitted.
The majority of cases were not detected until patients underwent standard Covid tests, carried out on everyone admitted to hospital for any reason.
Overall, 56 per cent of Covid hospitalisations fell into this category, the data, seen by The Telegraph, show.
Crucially, this group does not distinguish between those admitted because of severe illness, later found to be caused by the virus, and those in hospital for different reasons who might otherwise never have known that they had picked it up.
Last month, health officials instructed NHS trusts to provide "a breakdown of the current stock of Covid patients", splitting it into those who were in hospital primarily because of the virus and those there for other reasons. So far, NHS England has failed to publish this data.
However, the patterns shown in the leaked figures – with the vast majority of hospital Covid cases being diagnosed after admission, in some cases weeks later – suggest it includes large numbers likely to have been admitted for other reasons.

I now know multiple people who have gotten it even though they are vaccinated. The great news is they have not spread it to their families and only one had symptoms beyond a mild cold. She has other factors, but it’s still just a bad cold. Glad everyone I care about deeply is vaccinated if they’re old enough.

So, in one of the cases it was two extended family members who attended a family function maskless and were afraid to admit they were vaccine refusers. So, they showed up and acted like they were vaccinated and got a bunch of their family members sick just so they didn’t look bad.

So my older sister called me today, she said "Can you please do me a favor and call a friend of ours, he's refusing to get vaccinated and Mom told me you've been great with talking people into getting vaccinated, so can you try with him?"

Sure, I'm game, so I called the guy and here is basically what happened.............he answers, I told him I'm Donna's brother and I'd like to talk to you about getting vaccinated as she's worried about you.

Here is what he said "Oh yeah, she told me about you, you're her younger brother, you sell the toy soldiers; so you're a military history guy then, so consider this............regarding the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, what if the Government insisted it was a meteor shower. And the Arizona spontaneously exploded! “Science!” they claim . Yeah well fast forward , the same people who were insisting this was not man made in the Wuhan lab but the result of someone eating a live bat are telling me I should trust them enough to get vaccinated then?"

I replied "Yeah.................ok then.........well that's an interesting take you've got, I'd unwrap it, but I think I'm good; best of luck to you."

I called my sister and told her "Yeah; talked to your friend..........................talking him into getting vaccinated should be the least of your concerns right now."

As Stalin once said, Lenin left us with a great inheritance and we have f'd it up. Fauci and the politicos have bungled the vaccine rollout like everything else. The development of the vaccine was a modern miracle. But all the misinformation and politicization have polarized some folks into never trusting it. We've effectively reached a point of stalemate. Some folks will never take the vaccine. The virus will always be in circulation. At some point we just have to say good luck to those that want to take the risk and let everyone else go back to normal.

You should have asked him about the Oklahoma.

Agreed 100%; all the misinformation and politicization have resulted in people not trusting the vaccine, they let it become a political issue vs a medical one, it's a bridge too far and they are never crossing it.

The number of vaccinations is ticking up again; as more and more people get admitted to the hospital, some folks are deciding to get vaccinated.

Today I heard people are going to vaccination sites in disguise as they don't want their anti vaccine friends to see them/ know they are getting it.

They're offering new yorkers 100.00 to get the jab.

Good for them; whatever it takes.

Agree here too. Regardless of what people would like to say otherwise, a polarized political climate and a supposedly unbiased free press have fubared this situation to complete cluster.... proportions. Until people revert to using their own common sense and logic, we are truly screwed. Not to be a gas can, but you are never going to convince me of a bat in the wet market theory - HORSE MANURE. That said, the vaccine is the best path forward.

I agree.
Also, I like the use of the past tense of FUBAR.
Best Wishes & get Vaxed if you're not; as I've said before, your reaction couldn't be much worse than mine & I'm fine now.

There was apparently only one virus death in the entire month of July in DC. Meanwhile hundreds of shootings are going on in almost every major US city every weekend. Hundreds. But nary a peep in the press. It's hard to understand how some deaths are prioritized over others. There is almost nonstop virus/vaccine coverage on some networks. Endless except for the 1/6 reports. I'm done with the masks. Never convinced that there were very effective. I'm vaccinated. Everyone has access to the vaccine. If they decide to decline, then the risk is on them. It's time to move on.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the increase in crime and it was a major issue in the N.Y. mayoralty race and one of the principal reasons why Eric Adams, a former policeman, was elected Mayor. Biden has also talked about it so it has not been ignored.

Being vaccinated does not fully protect you from the unvaccinated, particularly with the Delta variant, and there has been an increase in breakthrough infections. Moreover, after the first couple of months, the effectiveness of the vaccine drops around six percent a month so many may be done with masks but the Coronavirus is not done with them.

I live in NY not far from the city and we see the shootings and crime every night on the news.
As far as masks go I am fully vaccinated but as a senior citizen with some underlying health issues I will wear a mask when necessary. Unfortunately with the Delta variant vaccinated people are getting the virus and according to the many doctors I am in touch with masks do help prevent the spread.
I am sure, however, that we will have to get booster shots sometime later this year.
I know people are upset with Faucci and the CDC but remember that this virus is constantly changing and that much of the population is not listening to science. If 80% + of the population was vaccinated we could have beaten this virus and stoped the mutations. This has become a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
It is speculated that the vaccines will have "FDA" approval in the next few months.....will that change minds? I hope so but some people have political or religious agendas against the vaccine which end up hurting the general population.
Those not getting vaccines are not only a risk to themselves but to family, friends, their community and our country.

What is the end game here? There will always be folks who refuse to be vaccinated. There will always be someone with the virus. At some point the choice becomes to forever wear masks and live in lockdowns or go back to normal and allow those who decide not to be vaccinated to take the risk.
That is what we do with every other infectious disease.

If it was just a matter of individual risk I would agree but its not. Those who are unvaccinated can infect their families and community. In addition the unvaccinated are vessels for the virus mutations so again that affects all of us.
The answers are not simple. In France you will need proof of vaccination to use public transportation and millions went out and got vaccinated. In the USA businesses and government are starting to mandate vaccinations for their employees and schools will mandate teachers and staff to be vaccinated.
Right now public schools require certain vaccinations for children to attend, you need a license and insurance to drive a car and in case of war the government can draft you into military service.

My nine year old grandson is attending summer sleep away camp. All counselors, staff and children over twelve had to be vaccinated. Everyone was tested 72 hours before camp, tested again on arrival and tested one and two weeks later. With over 500 kids and counselors there have been no cases.
So vaccines and timely testing can defeat this virus. I would have no problem with vaccine and masking mandates with only medical exceptions. I do not agree with lockdowns! Recently a restaurant chain in NY announced that they will require all staff and patrons to be vaccinated, I will gladly show them my proof and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Those that are unvaccinated can infect other unvaccinated people. They share the common risk and consequences of declining the vaccine. Punishing everyone would be like suggesting that because someone drove 100 MPH on the highway and killed their entire family that the rest of us are precluded from ever driving again. If you are vaccinated then there is a very small chance that you will get sick, and even if you do the odds are that it will not be severe. I don't have any objections to certain type of vaccine mandates. Anyone in the medical field should certainly get them. But try convincing someone in Wyoming that they MUST be vaccinated and then obtain some type of governmental permission to go about their business. Not happening. And who could blame them after all the confusing messaging they have been given by Fauci and the politicos? That will simply reinforce the preexisting skepticism of this process and the legal fights would extend to the end of times. The problem at this point is that only the medical experts are asked for their opinion. And from a medical perspective, the safest course is the most conservative one. Wear a mask everywhere, never leave your house, close all the businesses and that will minimize the spread of cases. That may be correct from a medical perspective, but society cannot function under those conditions. There are many other societal costs that often go without equal consideration. And that doesn't even get into the politicos who have used this situation to direct governmental funds to pet projects under the guise of COVID relief. The corruption and waste is astounding. It will take generations to recoup all that money.

For those who have not seen it here is latest info from CDC web page which just changed the masking policy again. Note that 74% of the detected cases, with Delta, were those double vaccinated. Of the 5 people hospitalised, presumably the most serious cases, 4 were double vaccinated. If you are going to try to convince others to get a vax they might be hesitant about I am sure you will balance the information by mentioning this survey that was the basis of a sudden turn around in CDC advice. (Not the full release below but contains the important data).
[h=1]Outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 Infections, Including COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Infections, Associated with Large Public Gatherings — Barnstable County, Massachusetts, July 2021[/h]Early Release / July 30, 2021 / 70

During July 2021, 469 cases of COVID-19 associated with multiple summer events and large public gatherings in a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, were identified among Massachusetts residents; vaccination coverage among eligible Massachusetts residents was 69%. Approximately three quarters (346; 74%) of cases occurred in fully vaccinated persons (those who had completed a 2-dose course of mRNA vaccine [Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna] or had received a single dose of Janssen [Johnson & Johnson] vaccine ≥14 days before exposure). Genomic sequencing of specimens from 133 patients identified the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in 119 (89%) and the Delta AY.3 sublineage in one (1%). Overall, 274 (79%) vaccinated patients with breakthrough infection were symptomatic. Among five COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized, four were fully vaccinated; no deaths were reported. Real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) cycle threshold (Ct) values in specimens from 127 vaccinated persons with breakthrough cases were similar to those from 84 persons who were unvaccinated, not fully vaccinated, or whose vaccination status was unknown (median = 22.77 and 21.54, respectively). The Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 is highly transmissible (1); vaccination is the most important strategy to prevent severe illness and death. On July 27, CDC recommended that all persons, including those who are fully vaccinated, should wear masks in indoor public settings in areas where COVID-19 transmission is high or substantial.* Findings from this investigation suggest that even jurisdictions without substantial or high COVID-19 transmission might consider expanding prevention strategies, including masking in indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status, given the potential risk of infection during attendance at large public gatherings that include travelers from many areas with differing levels of transmission.

We're all fully aware the vaccine does not protect you to 100%; so, yes, with the Delta variant being highly contagious, vaccinated people are going to get infected.

We get it.

Vaccinated people are getting the Delta virus but almost none are getting very sick or need hospitalization. So the vaccines are working. I think masks are an extra layer of defense but not foolproof. I would think there will be a booster shot for those most susceptible with age and underlying health issues. Unfortunately the medical community is going through a learning curve with this unique virus that is extremely contagious and morphing. Information is changing which frustrates many but the constants continue to be....get vaccinated, wear a mask when inside and with people you don't know, social distance wherever possible and practice good hygiene.
