I got the Hitler and Blondi set today, and I was so disappointed. The Hitler figure is fine, but Blondi looks awful. First it is in a smaller scale than the hunan figures, and second, it looks like a malnourished dog. I was hoping to use the dog as a companion to my MP's, but I won't.

I got the set too. Blondi is small. However it is important to know that there are several breeds of Alsatians/ German Shepherds. Blondi in the picturs I have seen seems to be of the smaller breed. The Hitler figure is pretty good. The Berghoff is a neat departure. Looking forward to seeing Eva.

I actually watched the movie "Downfall" last night which of course included Hitler, Blondi and Eva - who kicked Blondi on the sly. If you don't have the DVD you should be able to find some clips on Google Video with say a "Hitler Brown Downfall" search.

Blondi disappointed me too; I was more of a Dagwood fan myself..........

I really fancied Blondi, she was was gorgeous, 'Call me' 'Hanging on the Telephone' etc;)

I would also recommend the Downfall Dvd. It is very well done

Photo comparisons:

K&C Blondi & Hitler and 3 photos. In the photos the dog is thin but definitely taller/longer than the figure in the set.

No offense to Andy Nielsen but that is one sad looking dog.............looks like it just got beat for messing on the carpet.

The actual dog does look emaciated and not like any Alsatian I have seen in Australia, maybe she was an earlier type and on a vegetarian diet as well.

I agree that the model of Blondi does not look good. Even though I am not a K&C collecter myself (YET), I do always follow your guys discussions, and also in this case I find the subject very interresting, especially because I have a German Shepherd (1:1) myself.
I have tried to look around on the net, to find if there were any ready made German Shepherd Scale Model (1:35, 1:32 or 1:30), and have only found Tamiya #26018 - 1:35 Livestock Set US$ 13.90, were there is a German Shepherd included, maybe that could replace your K&C Blondi?.
Regards

You are also comparing a breed of dog from 60 years ago. Dog breeds have changed over the years due to the likes and dislikes of human beings. Then you also have working and show dog strains which are completely different from each other.

Asset make GSD,s (German shepherds) in 54mm one sitting one standing these are quite reasonable models in scale and looks (trust me I was A Police dog handler for 22yrs in the RAF) Scott is correct the breed has developed in the time since WW2 (this is called selective breeding) there is the Germanic looking one which in specialist terms has roach back which means the back arches and the tail will touch the ground and then there is the one that is a UK/US type witha straight looking back the majority of these the tail does not touch the ground,I think this is the type that was more common in Germany during the war years. At this time the breed had a very light frame especially females much smaller than the breed today. To finish I have to say the K&C version is like no other breed Ive seen.

Being a G. Shep owner and also collector of figures, I was not very excited over this release. I would have been buying only for the dog and it is a sad example in my opinion. Even the original photos of Blondi don't look that bad! The breed may have changed over the years, but this looks like no Shepherd I have ever seen and my Duke would have this one for breakfast.

Ok, no big deal here, every sculpt is not going to be a "home run", this is one that should go back to the drawing board.

IMO

That the fact that the Hitler figure is on a base and the dog isn't may also make it look smaller.

I think that it would have made a more interesting set, if Hitler was interacting with the dog rather that saluting, like in the photo's.

I must say I have to agree with you. Blondi looks like its wounded

I do not buy the LAH stuff - but, this set I would have bought - if the Shepherd had looked better. Also, I was hoping that the dog would be in a more sit up pose or something like it - so I could have used it with the German Guards and New Guard Posts.

Oh well - can't have a homerun everytime ;)
