Dispatches are up! (1 Viewer)

If the dodgy looking pic with the girls was historically accurate then it makes me wonder what would have happened later! {sm2}{eek3}{sm4}

Maybe there wouldn't have been a cold war....

Tom

Stalin and Roosevelt would have had heart attacks{sm4}

Most likely in Stalins case, the man was a total prude, he ordered the deaths of millions but couldn't stand any sort of lewd behaviour...a true nutter.
Wayne.

Wayne, that's perfect, I can just see the latest Stalin bio on the shelves ' Stalin - A true Nutter' ^&grin

Finally a month that provides my wallet with a rest! :) This month's releases seem like a real hodge podge of pieces. The standout for me is the German armoured 8 wheeler. Many nice releases but mostly things I don't collect like LAH, ALH, SOHK, IC etc. In particular the Three Kingdom releases look really well done, especially the facial expressions. I like the civilians too. Thank goodness there's nothing in the retirments that I want or don't already have. I was surprised we didn't see more D-Day releases for this time of year however looking forward to July........hopefully its quiet too......everyone needs a break in the summer!

Hey CFM, I do agree, the faces on the three Kingdom figures are very nice, cool figures indeed.

Got a few retirments to grab this month (Strecher Party & the WRENS) other then that think ill be getting the Big Three what an excellent & different set that is? Plus the newspaper seller with Battle of Britains headlines is a must as well!

Got to agree Craig, splendid set. I think I'll be getting this one and having my other leaders and commanders stood behind them as a sort of key figures display.

You do make a point, I think the set was based on the first photo and Roosevelt should have glasses on and no cape or cigar and Churchill a R.A.F cap on his lap and seated on the right, and Stalin no great coat, but honestly I don't care at all, it is still a great set which I will be getting for sure.
Wayne.

Stalin boots are different too

It's let down somesort this set not accurate to the picture.

These are cool and will find a way into my collection. Simmo.

It's unfortunate the Yalta set is not accurate as this could have been an interesting set. FDR, as in many households, was a god in mine and could do no wrong. He's also a personal favorite of mine. He, George Washington and Lincoln are in the top three. Also unfortunate is that the sculpt doesn't really resemble him (although sometimes photos don't do a figure justice). Why FDR's suit is wrong is a bit of a head scratcher. Moreover, the set depicts him holding what appears to be a cigar. FDR did not smoke cigars but cigarettes in a holder.

As FDR was dying at the time (which is why Yalta was such a Russian triumph, not to mention that the Russians had the place bugged and knew what the Allies were thinking) I would have chosen the Teheran conference but that's a minor quibble.

For those who are interested in Yalta I recommend Yalta The Price of Peace by Serhil Plokhy.

Aside from this I think the news vendors are well done and will be adding one of them. I have Lawrence coming this week or next so look forward to that.

I agree with you on the inaccuracy of the set and that yes it is most unfortunate indeed. It appears that the set was made up of a conglomeration of the two photographs as has been mentioned and other inaccuracies added or subtracted. I have attached the set and both photos for simplicity.

DD106(L).jpg

Now let us start with Stalin. He is actually the most accurate. It takes the pose from the next photo and the crossed legs from the last photo. He is correctly uniformed and wearing his great coat as he should be. His face sculpt is great.

Now on Roosevelt. He takes part of the pose and the cape from the next picture and the pin stripe suit from the last picture with colors inverted. The face sculpt is not very well done. The grin is in neither picture and seems over done. The cigar as you have pointed out is really wrong. Did he take it out of Churchill's hand?

Now Churchill. He has his military uniform and pose from the last picture. He holds the hat that was on his head from the first picture. The biggest failing being that he is not wearing his overcoat. I do not find his face sculpt very accurate. No cigar in his hand. It is obvious that even though there are various elements from both pictures the cold weather part needed to take precedence. I diss-like his pose as it almost looks subservient.

Perhaps some of these elements will look better in person as scans at times are not well representative of the figures.

I will not be purchasing one of these sets and do not see it being a big seller. However I am glad it was made for posterity.

For whatever it is worth...that is my two cents.

Rob,

That's not actually my top 3 but a generally accepted top 3 presidents. Grant is way down the list. After he left office he generally had a good reputation and was ranked near the top but then in the 20th century was ranked near the bottom (partially due to the corruption that happened during his administration). However, in recent years his reputation has been somewhat rehabilitated and he's considered in the upper middle.

Ludwig,

I agree with you and am glad you noted that it was made, for which K & C deserve some credit. The Russians put out a set of the big three at Teheran. I have Roosevelt and Churchill but unfortunately not Stalin. Another collector and I were competing for the set on eBay several years ago and we agreed to split the spoils. I will try to see if I can post a photo tonight.

Brad,

Very interesting . Good to hear he has had somewhat of a rehabilitation. It would appear his service in the ACW was not enough to keep him right up there and as you say was overshadowed by corruption during his term.

Cheers

Excellent write up by Bayern and Jazzeum. Although I agree on many points, I just love the set. I for one will be purchasing it. Thank you KC for doing a wonderful tribute to such an important epoch.

Gerhard

Well I agree with Jazzeum and Bayern. Although I think the Stalin figure is well done, I do not think the sculpts of Roosevelt and Churchill are close enough for me to visualize Churchill and FDR.

Yes its good to be able to read all points of view without folk losing their temper or shouting others down all the time, but if Terry can't tell that is Churchill and Roosevelt he's either an idiot or needs his eyes tested or both! Whats more if he doesn't like it he can just get lost!! JOKE!!!^&grin^&grin:wink2: I've read all the posts on this thread and appreciate all the viewpoints, I'll be getting this set as I believe it captures that moment very nicely indeed, although a stand alone set I think it will be a good centerpiece for a leaders and commanders display as I often find figures such as Monty/Slim/Alexander etc do not fit with fighting figures , so this could be a really good separate display as I very much enjoy the WW2 personality figures K&C produce^&cool

Rob

are the figures attached to the chairs or are they seperate??

Think your right Terry . It a shame
