Dispatches are up! (2 Viewers)

I have on some occasions consulted other forum members about a new release because I am not sure about some feature and they in turn have asked me questions too. Only last week I asked my supplier about a gun that I would only purchase if the arms were not frozen open as I wanted to be able to put it in a towing mode. So the forum is invaluable to give you confidence in making the correct decision as these releases are not cheap. Robin.

No disrespect to Rob, but I know what you mean Robin. Not having a TS store over here or a hobby shop that stocks TS, (other than plastic figures/kits) means you have to rely on photographs or brief reviews on manufacturers websites.

I find TF forum and those members prepared to give feedback on products, invaluable. Plus a great way to get in touch with off-shore hobby stores or other related businesses.:salute::

Great point, without a chance to see an item for yourself the input of others is quite helpful.

I think what Rob was alluding to is that he does not let others influence him away from his purchases once he decides to buy them. We have all read posts that seem to try to convince us not to buy a piece for one reason or another based not on seeing the item in person, rather an opinion that is based on a personal dislike of the company or its style. After all, much of what we like and do not like in the toy soldier world is subjective much like art, therefore there is no right nor wrong in what you collect.

This is absolutely spot on PA. I would not hesitate to seek advice on an item if I wanted it as this forum is superb for that. No I meant that no denigrating posts or rivet counting to the nth degree puts me off, there is after all at the base of this hobby an aesthetic appeal which catches the eye. :smile2:

Has anyone noticed it's the same small group of NaNaNa who complain about everything K&C and the same small group of YaYaYa who praise everything K&C. And this is directed at specific individuals.

Time would be better spent discussing the pros and cons of specific pieces that people have taken a good look at - in person or in a good closeup photo.

A few days ago, I was asked a question that I have wondered about for a couple of years - variations in quality. The question to me was I purchased several of the K & C paras and the sculpting is phenomenol - some of the best K&C has done. What makes all this the more amazing is when you compare it to the poor quality of this month's Germans. How could the same company make both?

I've noticed the variation in quality between different sets of Russian figures.

It alright making them statement's Terry but where the photos to back them up Terry ?

I agree with the statements made by the person Terry quoted. I wanted to see the Paras in person so I waited until Chicago to purchase a few. I was very impressed by the facial detail, best I've seen in years. I will be picking up a few more at the Hackensack Show. I had picked up a couple of Gunn paras a year or so ago just because no one was making them and I had no idea if K & C planned to make them anymore. They are not even in the same ballpark. Off to eBay they will be going.

I did a set of photos a while ago illustrating what I meant. I showed them to several people, but for obvious reasons, didn't post them. The photos compared an actual PPSH with a PPSH from the first modern set of K&C Russians to a more recent issue of K&C Russians and to a PPSH from an FL figure. The first K&C PPSH was very good. It faithfully replicated the real thing and was almost as good as the detail on the FL figure. The more recent PPSH from K&C is terrible - I bought the one that looked best in the photos after people posted that they look better in person. In my opinion, they don't.

Similar complaint by people on this month's model of an MP40 vs better detailed and scaled MP40s on earlier TGM figures.

Too many pictures to put in a PM. I may post them, but in the General section. But It's sure to start a fight.

This is exactly my experience Brad. Having heard adnaseum that they were wrong in scale, faces painted wrong and uniforms wrong colour I finally saw them at the last London show. They are superb figures and am very pleased with them. Got my first three this past week and will get more at next show. :smile2:

Cheers PA, nice post mate, yeah I agree with Rob too. I think if you listen to others too much, they can sometimes put you off an item you really like the look of. That's probably why, when other members have negative things to say about a figure or vehicle you've brought or thinking about buying, things can get a little heated on here. As I've mentioned before here's a fine line between constructive criticism and simply putting the boot in.

In saying all of this, feedback from members about products can be very helpful, especially if they're accompanied with photo's, and I really appreciate it when members do this rather than simply saying something is rubbish, or over priced junk or something similar.

Price is also a big player for me and often the ultimate decider no matter how much I may like an item, although I have made the odd exception from time to time.

Mentioning the 'new Para's' is a good example. As an Arnhem fan I love them to bits, but hate the price, but will eventually grab a couple even though they are way past my price threshold. Again it's my choice, I've seen the photo's, read the reviews and like what I see.

Cheers Toddy

I like to hear all opinions on a set good and bad. I can see when a set is incorrect historically myself on most occasions but, it depends on how wrong it is to whether it will be bought and in most cases it will be regardless

Happy to hear everything about a set from scale to price and everything in between never bores me as this is what we are hear for!!

A lot of sets that I have bought have been given a hard time and, I have never thought not to buy it because someone else does not like it. Perhaps toy soldiers don't affect me in similar ways to some. If manufacturers put out an item claiming it to be X then it should be and if not should be scrutinised mind, with the prices the way they are they should be anyway.

Never heard that the P Arnhem figures were the wrong scale, wrong faces etc so, that was new to hear. My issue was price compared to marketing spiel and, having been able to find them at a much, much better price I have them all.

You hear often that this figure is wrong in this or that way, this vehicle is not to scale, the wrong shade of colour, the tracks are rubbish and so on and so on, and I realise how lucky we that have a bricks and mortar shop nearby are, as we can eye-ball everything first before letting the moths out of our wallets. So I understand the frustration most have with only the 'net' pictures and the opinions of others to go by in choosing what to buy or not to buy, something I don't have to deal with as I can look for myself without the filter of pictures and etc. Another advantage of course is no postage, plus I can ignore most of the endless waffle some engage in on the forum as it is irrelevant to me. IMO naturally...:wink2:
Wayne.

Wayne mate i have never bought a figure first hand,100% rely on the net and pic and comments from collectors you are lucky,i have a heap of things if i had seen them i would of never bought them.
The only time i got to see something was when Andy popped over and it was great.

Mate, I feel for you. Just think about this ...it could be worse, you could be living in Tassy. :rolleyes2:

Mate i see something and as the case is becoming more frequent its limited so i ask Brett to grab me one, then it gets a bad review i cancel my order and Brett gets mad, which he is entitled to do now he is stuck with it.
If i could walk in see it then decide it would be a different story + i would have heaps more figures as again if i could walk in i would grab at least 1 figure a week.
Now i have to say hold that hold this till i get over the free postage and sometimes that takes 2-3 weeks with all the other bills etc money goes on.
