Dispatches is up! (2 Viewers)

What extra detail are we expecting? I am no defender of manufacturers but, I see this comment about minimal detail increase and yes, the prices have gone up and nobody likes that but, to advance the debate further than what some could see as a dig (an assumption rightly or wrongly which, I am not implying) could we have some examples.

For me, the biggest issue has been wheel bases on AFV's but, IMO this has improved a good bit more than minimal over the past few years. Do we want opening hatches, and the like?

I hope this request does not turn into a debate where some make it an argument for no reason I am just interested in what kind of detail for the money one expects
Mitch

Mitch,...To be specific...Very disappointing for me recently were the exhaust hatches on the recently released WWII Snow Tiger...Some photo etch grills with weathering on them would have been great.....For the price increases we are seeing from K/C, I hope we will see more detail and better paint in future releases.....IMO

What I cannot see is how having small photo etched parts on the exhaust covers would make a collector who is critical of the detail suddenly think its worth the price?

I have on a couple of conversions placed photo etch onto K&C tanks and, what a bloody awful job it was having to drill out the existing detail and yes it worked out well in the end but, once painted you can see no difference of any significance. I do think these model accents that were primarliy introduced to counter the issue of light weight in 35th and don't really accent the AFV's which, are static display models. Like I have said before, with the drive sprockets once detailed they look enourmously better, I think, K&C has but, not always, defined these by painting the inside a darker colour and they do look better.

Have to say across the board of camo patterns primarli here, I am talking about german AFV's I really think K&C holds its own with the manufacturers who offer similar

Guys, this may be old fashioned and I'm probably the only one, but don't you ever see an AFV and just go 'wow, I really like that, I'm buying' ??. I rarely see a release and then start comparing it with other producers, researching what went where , if it fits in with other vehicles etc etc. I know collecting isn't cheap and quality is important, but don't you think it sucks out some of the joy of collecting like some sort of Harry Potter dementor?.

Take the Spitfire for instance, it looks superb, really nice, but would anyone seriously not buy it because of the fact the rear flaps don't go up and down?.

The whole rivet counting, camo checking thing makes me smile, I sometimes think do these guys ever just enjoy the product for what it is?.

But mine is Just another viewpoint and if counting the rivets does it for you then good luck to you I say:cool:

Comparing a diecast model with a polystone plane is apples and oranges. Yes, they may have more detail than a poly or wood but I will take those two over a diecast anyday.

As far as the Snow Tiger, I've commented on that before. Again, to each their own.

Rob...

I brought this up re posts about the 262 which, I think was a little naughty and some of the recent posts about either a decline in detail or, a minimal increase. I have always said you cannot compare releases from manufacturers unless they are the same items.

I like things to be right both in sets and the historical reference to them and, although I really like the hobby I don't think it diminishes my enjoyment of it actually, it makes it more enjoyable as you are able to discuss everything about the hobby and the releases.

I think nobody expects the manufacturers to get everything right but, I try to back up what I am saying if its a negative rather than just having a pop but, I do think the negatives balance out the positives. I don't think you can just have the good side all the time as its artificial, its not like that in any part of life.

I am amazed at all the releases as its remarkable that they can be made to the standard they are but, I do like to look at them constructively and its not a bonus, for me, if I find something wrong, but, I do feel it makes the hobby better and the sets that come out especially, for future releases that debates like this happen.

In relation to polystone I think there is only so far you can go with detail and we are probably there now IMO if some want more from K&C then I think that means a fundamental switch in material and, I don't see that happening

Yes I agree its good to get the positives as well as the negatives Mitch, some of the discussions on here are very interesting and I always find it fascinating to see how different collectors go about their collecting and what criteria they use. This hobby really is fun:)

Not much interest in the current dispatches with the exception of the Me262....With K/C prices "constantly" rising for WWII AFV's:(... and with only "minimal improvement" in detail.....It will be necessary to carefully scrutinize AFV products released by K/C....Hopefully the Jagdtiger will be "worth it"....We shall see

Do you mean you have been buying K&C AFVs in the past without carefully scrutenizing them.:D

It's the rising costs that affect me, not whether I am getting more detail at a higher price. And my choices are made on the relevance of the piece for my collection and whether it appeals to me. But with rising prices, I can buy fewer pieces making for many more difficult buy/don't buy decisions.

Hey Rob

yeah, that is me in a nutshell. The only thing I really care about are unit markings and whether or not the vehicle was in the particular theater I am doing. Camo is another thing but not too much of a concern.

Admittedly, I think I got lucky with starting KC collecting in 2000 and could score panthers and tigers for $85 or so, so I have what I need at this point. I don't think it is out of the realm of reality for the "rivet" gang to be sticklers for detail however given the prices. Plus, I am just not that much of a "detail" guy- I just don't have the interest or energy to get to the level of detail some of these collectors do- just not for me- works for them, fine, just not me.

Take Figarti's Stryker for example- the unit markings are off on that. Still didn't stop me from getting it. In fact, I am planning on hopefully getting another 2 which will bugger up my diorama as they will all have the same bumper numbers and out of whack (deployment wise) as they are ATGM (Anti Tank Guided Missle) vehicles and not IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles). I could even be crtical of the timing of the Strykers (2006) in relation to the uniforms of the troopers he has released. At the end of the day, I just simply love that thing to death and nothing short of my own death would stop me from owning it- heck, I'd probably put a provision in my will that my estate would purchase one to place in my coffin!!!!:D:D

Even top line producers like Aeroart can get called on the carpet. Take their "surrender of Vercingetorix" vignette that is over $400- by all historical accounts, V was stripped bare when he surrendered to Caesar- think about the rivet counting on that set when a collector shells out that quid for a fully clothed Vercingetorix!! :D

Cheers mate!!

Cheers Chris,

I see what you mean re the Vercingetorix set!:D

I'd love to see a way for producers to release vehicles with differing identification numbers, I'd really like to to a dio with several Stugs for instance all with different numbers, may have a crack at doing it myself if I get the courage up!;)

Cheers mate

As you were- the Stryker was in fact, deployed in Iraq in Oct 2003, though in IFV mode, not ATGM. ATGM came shortly thereafter.
