Durbar Collection (1 Viewer)

Gentle Friends,

The following four photos present a closer view of the reverse of a stilted warrior and a closer view of the officer.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing this unique set of figures. I have certainly enjoyed sharing them with you.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks Pat for sharing another of your Durbar gems. This one is something just a little bit unique. Imagine fighting on those stilts  I see the officer is not brave enough to try his hand (or is that legs) at the stilts.

Thanks again

Scott

Gentle Friends,

It has been a while since I have shared any of my Delhi Durbar collection with you. I thought it was about time I should do so.

Below, you should find a few photos of a most interesting set. The set is Marlborough Set #156, the Levitating Man. The Levitating Man is included in the Delhi Durbar Bazaar series that Marlborough produces. The set depicts a seated holy man rising above the ground. The effect is achieved as a result of a peg that is centered on the base. The holy man is placed on this peg and, thereby, appears to be levitating. The set is completed with the inclusion of an observer peering under the holy man to determine if he is, indeed, levitating.

Another interesting feature of this set is the fact it is not listed on the Marlborough website. Further, no photo of this set appears on any of the Marlborough websites I visit. Normally, Marlborough limits the production of Durbar sets to a total of 1,000 each. The fact that this is set #156 indicates it is a more recent release than most of the Durbar sets, almost all of which are still available. If, for no other reason than the mystery that surrounds this set, I am most proud to own this example of it. I hope you enjoy viewing it.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

A very nice and unique addition to your Durbar collection Pat. I think the spectator/civilian side of the Durbar is just as enjoyable to collect as the parade itself. Thanks for sharing another gem from your toy box.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I would share a set I just acquired. It was damaged and I got it for a fantastic price. I am repairing it and have ordered a missing figure from Marlborough. Still even with these issues I am most excited to have acquired the Elephant Kettle Drummer set.

Here are a few photos.

Great set, Dave. Congratulations. I do not see any damage - did you take the photo after you repaired/touched up the figure?

Hi Andreas,

The damage was mainly to the Howdah which was in several pieces. The rails were detached so I had to re-attach them and bend them straight again. I have to do some painting to it but havent had the time with the pending move to Germany looming large and Jessica's return from Iraq. I will get to it but it may not be done until later this fall.

How was the trip south?

Dave

Pending.

Will see Ana on Friday to pick up my new elephant. :D

I know Pat and you would kill for an opportunity like this, but trust me, I am paying a high (non-monetary) price.

It is a tough professional quarter.

Hi Andreas,

I certainly hope its not too high a price to pay! Have a safe trip and enjoy the visit with Ana. Would love to see photos of the shop/work area but only if its ok with her. Take care

Dave

Hi Tom,

I certainly hope that day comes along real soon since I am sure you have a pretty good collection of Durbar figures.

Anyone else out there have some figures to share? Or maybe want to discuss this event some more jump in and lets chat

Dave

Thats a very nice looking Band! I have been hoping to see a band from Britains but that isnt likely due to the cost. But I have my fingers crossed. The bands from the Durbar would be great because they were massed and combined and would have had many different uniforms in one formation. How cool would that be to see.

Thanks for sharing this cool band

Very nice as always Martyn. Len sold me five singles like yours but they were all in different uniforms and may have been paint masters. Best regards.
