No power and because the water runs off the power, no water. We had loaded up on bottled water but the town fire department has a hose that works so we've been replenishing supplies there, esp water for flushing :)

Really sorry to hear this Brad, I do hope these conditions don't last long mate.

Rob

That makes two of us :D

Still on the gas line. Another 90 minutes I guess {eek3}

Brad,

Now that I have power and heat, if you and your family want to come stay with us, you are most welcome. Call me on the cell if you would like to join us.:smile2:

What a truly decent gesture from a real gentleman, I hope you and your family are all ok too Louis.

Just got my power back, we got blasted pretty hard, I went outside to experience 80 MPH winds during the peak of the storm, it was awesome. A little house damage and some trees on my property uprooted, but BSP's studio is intact :)....Cant get a substantial amount food and gas though. All the food I had is spoiled.

Here is the real ironic part to the story. 5 weeks ago I purchased a 14000 watt whole house generator, they were coming to hook it up on Tuesday ( Of course that never happened ) and yesterday was my 60th Birthday.

Spent my birthday with a flashlight reading the book Brothers in Battle by my friend Wild Bill Guarnere.

I am used to helping when there are disasters during my career as a firefighter, it is strange to see things from this side of the fence. Alex

My wife was in tears because many of the places she knows are damaged, gone, or still under water. Her large family is OK in Sayreville, Howell, Freehold and Jamesburg, but some of them are still without power.

Louis,

Thanks for the offer but with my mother and pets that's probably not doable, not to mention gas is at a premium; I waited in line for gas today about four hours.

I will try to come out in a few weeks and maybe have lunch with you and Rich.

Okay Brad, I'll treat!:wink2:

Back in line again for gas for another car. Line is not as long, maybe two hours.

Brad, keep us updated as to when you get back to some normality with all services restored mate.

I see the death toll continues to grow, truly sad to see those that have lost family and all they owned. This was such a huge devastating storm that we can only hope it is a once in a life time experience.

Thoughts to all who are suffering or grieving on the East coast right now.

Still without power. Not sure when it will be back on....hopefully soon..... Was mostly a lot of down trees and lines in my area from the strong winds.. I live in Warren County area of New Jersey a little over 100 miles from the coast.

As someone who has experienced the no power = no water (and I have a well) I have to wonder that no one has invented some type of backup battery powered pump for the water. It would make a huge difference to have water for a few days even if the power stays off longer. Anyway all the best. Hang in there and I'm sure they will sort things out. At least it's not the middle of winter or summer.

Thanks Doug. Back on the gas line as the station I was at last night ran out.

The best part is going to bed at night not having to worry about this and the worst part waking up having to deal with this for another day. My office may open Monday but if gas is still an issue I'm not using precious gas to get there (40 mile round trip).

Hi Brad. Hope things come around for you all pretty soon. It looks like chaos. The pictures of the long gas lines bring back memories of the 1970's oil embargo. Long lines, customer frustration, gas stations with little or no gas to sell, and the fights that occurred because of all those factors. The level of devastation and misery just seems to keep rising. Stay safe and warm. -- Al

Saw a story today where the NYC marathon will go off as scheduled, meaning people in hotels whos homes were either washed away or destroyed will be asked to leave so marathon runners can stay?

Serioulsly?

And FEMA workers too are being escorted to the curb.

As one person said, the race brings in about 340 million to the area, runners have to pay 100 million in fees to race and if the race is cancelled, you'd have to refund their money, so there are anywhere from 100 million to 340 million reasons why the race will go as planned.

Just unreal.

My wife wanted to get the whole house generator we bought about 5 weeks ago and I didnt want it, which delayed the whole hooking up process etc and it was not available for the Hurricane.

I am a firm believer now, with climate changes, terrorism, earthquakes etc. I would not go without it. It ends up being about a $9,000 project for a 14000 watt unit that hooks directly into your electrical system, but that buys a lot of piece of mind. Alex

Nice to see the priorities are focused!!!

CNN is now reporting the marathon has been cancelled.

Common sense wins out.

News report now says that NYC has come to it's senses and cancelled the marathon. Someone used their common sense. -- Al

Mitch ,

Looks like NYC officials finally conceded because of negative attention...

WASHINGTON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - The New York City Marathon, one of the premier U.S. distance-running events, will not take place as planned on Sunday, a New York city official said.

City officials and the organizers of the marathon have been under pressure to cancel the event as the Northeast struggles to recover from heavy flooding and power outages caused by superstorm Sandy.
