Dear "Lancer":

Thank you for the price information on Major Bong's P-38 model. The photos of it posted at the Forum look just great. I have a book entitled "ACES HIGH" about the two Metal of Honor aces Major Dick Bong & Tommy McGuire, the number one & number two aces Vs the Japanese in WW2. The photo of Major Bong's P-38 with the photo of his wife "Marge" on the engine in this book looks just like the one on the Figarti model! Major Bong was born in 1920 (as was the #2 ace Tommy McGuire) on a farm outside of the small NW Wisconsin town of Poplar. As I am a collector from Wisconsin I just might very well purchase this splendid looking set that has both WW2 connections as well as to my home state of Wisconsin, USA. I was not planning on going to the OTS Show near Chicago this year, but after seeing these photos of Major Bong's P-38 I am now planning on making the 90 mile trip to the OTS Show afterall!

You are quite welcome. It is a beautiful P-38. Would love to see a McGuire P-38 to go along with it. Bong and McGuire were not only the leading aces against Japan, but are the USAF's all time leading aces, with Bong having 40 victories and McGuire having 38. Matching P-38's would be a wonderful tribute. A tragedy that neither of these men survived the war. -- Al

For fear of blowing our own horn, we were quiet about our contribution to the show this year, BSP did this display for Figarti. What is interesting is that Rick used a piece we had to cut off the base, to fit it in the box, to prop up the crane. We actually put it in the box for packing. Good thinking Rick ! Alex

Dear Al:

Thanks for further reply back on Bong's P-38 model plane & WW2 Ace history. In a way, Major Bong did survive WW2, but not his test flight on August 6, 1945 of a P-80A in California. I just reread in the book I noted previuosly that he probably would have lived through the crash if he had the kind of ejection seats that came later on. It appears Major Bong flew the disabled P-80A into a non-urban area, thus he was a hero to the end!

Another terrific set of Chicago releases from Figarti. They always seem to step up their game in the windy city. I don't know where to begin. ^&confuse The silver P-38 is incredible ( as is the price )! {eek3} The Winter German supply wagon and the horse drawn artillery are spectacular. As for the figures I really like the sleeping German artillerymen wrapped in blankets...truly outstanding. The winter Tiger tank looks awesome too. A shock and awe Trojan horse with what looks like really well done Trojan warriors too. Again great show team Figarti I'm very impressed. :salute:: {bravo}}

Great stuff. The Tank is great, as are the planes and horse drawn wagons. I love the figures in the blankets and resting in the wagons. They look really cold. Who made the bases for the winter dio's?

Thanks guys for posting all these photos. There is only one recourse to have all these goodies...max my card and file for bankruptcy!

Love the P-38 "Marge" and "California Beauty." I may have to go for the latter as most of my collection is ETO.

Sherman Calliope is a beauty..but have to skip this one. i just scratched-built one.

Chalk one of those Tigers up for me!!!! It looks absolutely stunning.

The California Cutie is a prototype and not yet in production. I was told Figarti is working on the Bong P-38's right now and that the California Cutie would be closer to the end of the year.:smile2:
