First Legion - The American Revolution (2 Viewers)

Here are official FL photos of the Minutemen figures. They were provided to me by an operative currently working for Xe Services somewhere along the Afghan/Pakistan border. Enjoy!.

This is the only info I am allowed to provide.
You crack me up sometimes Randy.;):D

This range I am defiantly considering getting into. I no its a little to early but I cant wait to see what the Brits will look like there going to be awesome I am sure.

I would bet they are the same size as the other FL lines which is a refined 1/30.;)

What do you mean by refined and I thought the Stalingrad figures were smaller?I prefer 1/32 figures as these would go with my kit figures. If not they can go with my Jenkins figures.Either way I can use some of them.

Thanks for posting these pics. I am even more excited than before! Can't wait to preorder!

I mean that the bodies, weapons, heads and hands will be of a consistent scale and not bulky like some of the lines listed as 1/30. If you look at some of the side by side examples and measurements I posted on the scale and comparison threads sometime back you can see what I mean. Here is one thread I think that is most informative.

I think the Stalingrad figures are slightly smaller than the Napoleonic figures but not by all that much; especially the ones released after the first couple of sets. I think the FL site scale photo is a pretty fair comparison. If you compare the Napoleonic figure with the middle German figure I think you can see about a 2mm difference at most from sole to eyes.

I just hoping that there wont be any soldiers based on movie characters .. such as "Benjamin Martin" from the Revolution movie,, I hope Matt doesn't go down that road..

That's fine, but Francis Marion would be one I could not resist.;) However, I would dearly love to see a certain maverich, up through the ranks, green jacketed, rifle and cavalry sword carrying bloke for the Napoleonic series.:D

My friend thought he had the deal to make him who shall not be named, and the figures were actually shown on Toy Soldier Magazine. Lo and behold, Tradition gets the license, and he is ordered to destroy all the molds and the Mag has to recall the issue....Good thing I have one of those sets. I keep it covered with a paper bag, so no one knows..You won't tell, will you? Michael

No Michael your secret is safe, IF, you send me an email, which of course I won't receive, with photos of your set that doesn't exist.;):D

Matt,
Must say these figures are very impressive!
In the light of the political situation in this country today I find it quite timely. The words you quote , I believe in the bedrock of my soul and are being disregarded as "out of touch" today. You may be pulling me back in!
Ray

I hear ya, Ray. I felt the exact same way reading the quoted words for this new and fantastic looking range. Congrats to FL on another sterling achievement, and a very moving one.

These figures are awesome, and I can only salivate at how good the put upon and misunderstood British will be!
I think the most exciting thing for the hobby is the marker that First Legion have put down versus the competition. Britains AWI by comparison appear crude and badly painted, and the cost saving doesn't cut it for me personally, because I have to repaint every Britains figure I ever buy, to get them anywhere near acceptable to the standards I set for my collections.

The other thing is availability, I personally collect units, to achieve that with Britains/K&C ET el, you have to collect for years. and sometimes with blind faith, hoping they bring out the figures you want.

Also lead times, Britains catalogue comes out, we all get excited, and then have to wait 8 months for the actual figures to arrive in dribs and drabs - unlike FL who cater for unit collectors like me and individual figure collectors with their comprehensive releases.

For Britains sake I hope FL don't ever release ACW or they will punch a hole right through theirs, Collectors Showcase and K&C's market share, or maybe those guys will have to produce figures to a higher standard, which will be good for the hobby.

Just heard about the news this morning............ Count me in! As others have previously said, this is perfect for us AWI collectors and is much more reliable than Britains for building units.

The figures look superb and have excellent poses. I appreciate Matt's commitment to go deep and long with the range as apparently no other manufactures have done that with AWI to this degree. Oh, the potential!

Nothing AWI from K&C this year and Britains is....well, Britians--nice but slow and undependable.

I'll be placing my pre-orders very soon.

Matt,

I am delighted with the new range, however not so excited about the battle you have chosen, Lexington and Concord. Will this range like the other two ranges focus only on figures from this one battle or will you be covering other periods of the war after these initial two releases.

These two engagements were not much more then skirmishes. I would have much preferred a later engagement like Brandywine or Yorktown. Also this earliest of battles will lack all of the following:

No Continental soldiers in Uniforms
No George Washington
No Lafayette or other well know American Revolution figures
No General Howe or Cornwallis
No Hessians

Please don’t get stuck in doing Lexington and Concord only. Please move on to the later war years as quickly as possible.

Hi King's Man,
I don't think you have to worry since the ad says that FL will start the series at the beginning in 1775 and take us to Lexington Green and Bunker Hill.
I am very confident the AWI will be covered completely during the coming years and with a variety and amount of figures that a lot of collectors will hardly be able to keep up with.
But even if one has to pick and choose out of the future offerings he will be able to create a magnificient collection of troops and personalities involved in this classic conflict. No doubt about it.

Exactly so Konrad. Despite the noted observations about those early "skirmishes", they were of much greater significance than that to the cause. Besides, where better to start the war then where the war started.;):D

Quote from Kogu, "during the coming years" :(

Not to say Lexington and Concord aren’t significant, only not my personal favorite period of the Revolution. I would like to see Continental uniformed infantry sooner rather than later. If First Legion plans to cover Lexington and Concord in the same depth as it is covering Waterloo and Borodino it would be years, far too many years, before we would see regular American infantry. I would like to know if this range might be different and Frist legion would try to cover Lexington & Concord with just one or two releases and then move on.

I understand your concerns, King's Man.
Here's my idea. I very much appreciate that the line get's started at the very beginning, especially since the "Minutemen" are such an iconic part of the AWI.
The first "skirmishes" like Lexington, Concord Bridge, do not offer the options like the battles of "Waterloo" or "Borodino" do with their thousands of troops from multiple nations, so I would think that you will see the Continental Infantry rather sooner then later.
But we have to keep in mind the many other releases that First Legion is bringing up too in all there other ranges.
Due to financial limits my interest would be small groups of all or most of the participating troops in the AWI, so at the end there will be a collection with a representative display of that period.
So, as much as you are, I am interested in further coverage, but will have my hands full with some minutemen and British troops of Concord/Lexington first before looking for future additions.
As said before, I truely believe that the coverage of the entire AWI will leave nothing to wish for.

Konrad, I think you've addressed King Man's concerns about as well as I could without my divulging our long term plans for the range. I would only add that we put a lot of thought into how best to approach doing a comprehensive range for the American Revolution and I'm pretty pleased with the approach we've come up with and I hope in time you all will be as well.

Best,

Matt
