Foam Desert Fort... (1 Viewer)

okay...here we go...

keep in mind...I only have 23 defenders of this fort and 11 attacking...

so until I get more figures...I'm kind of limited to what I can do...

this is the largest structure I have made from foam and was really pleased at how it turned out...if I do anything else to it...it would be some detail work and maybe some weathering under the merlons...but all in all...I'm pretty happy with it and will use it more once my collection fills out...I have some Manes Marzano Dervish ordered...due in December...I'm trying desperately to get some Heritage Mahdist and FW's...and will collect all that JJD and Wm. Brit bring out...

Michael, first let me say do not apologize !! I always enjoy your work, photos, stories.

These are no exception, good to see you enjoying your hobby, creativity and skills. Thanks for sharing with us. As is always said at the end of the day if you are happy that is all that matters.

:)

in this last group I have the FW's and Mahdist breaking into the fort...the mat underneath is a Buildarama mat...the water container is Frontline...all the Gordon's are JJD...the Mahist/FW's are Wm. Brit and JJD...the really nicely detailed Middle Eastern jugs are JG Miniatures...the fort is a Mike Miller original...hehehe...

Mike it is just superb.Where did you get those little maps at?They are great.
Mark

thank you Nap and Mark...

Mark...

I googled images of "maps of the Sudan...the Nile and Egypt"...reduced and printed the,,,then made the frames...I figured these things would be on the walls of an officers quarters...along with a flag of the UK...

Martyn...

the Zulu shield was a stretch...but Islawanda and Rorke's Drift was 1879 and the British Egypt/Sudan Wars were from 1882 to 1898...so it's not that much out of the realm of possibilities to see a Zulu shield in some officer's personal belongings...

he may have fought in both conflicts...

Hi Mike,

Great looking set up! You said your trying desperately to get some Heritage Mahdist and FW's. I took some photos at the last London show of what was available then and on another thread there has been some new releases of Camel Corps posted. I will make sure that I take some decent photos of the range in a couple of weeks at the next London show.

Apparently John Jenkins will be at the show as well, I need to ask him when we can expect the Fuzzy Wuzzies that we all desperately need.

Jeff

Michael

This is definitely your masterpiece. You could use this as a set to make a movie!

Just finished spending a few relaxing moments enjoying your last round of photos featuring your fort and what a pleasure it's been seeing what you've accomplished. Your photos featuring both fort an figures were something to behold. Thanks Michael for sharing it all with us........PapaZ

If you have an extra wad of cash laying around, this would make a great French Foreign legion fort! Also with K&C's French:D:cool::rolleyes:

This is a very interesting and informative thread. Can you get this pink foam at Home Depot, and does it have a special name? Also do you pin the walls together or are they just glued on?

Oh, I just found your earlier thread. Insulation sheathing. As Emily Latela used to say, "Never Mind".

Go to home depot, and ask where the insulation foam is. Pick the king without the foil, and take whatever thickness you need. Have them cut it in half to fit into your car. Follow this link for foam tools:

Follow this link for grass, terrain materials:

And use spray-on stone texture for rock. They have this and squared off popsicple sticks (for wood) at Michal's.

Michael I must agree with Randy - THIS IS YOUR MASTERPIECE BAR NONE. Absolutely brilliant - bravo sir . . . .
:) Mike
