Glossies painted by Beating Retreat (1 Viewer)

Hi Dave,

the kit is available through Asset and the sculpting is by Alan Caton.

Gentle Friends,

If you have been following this thread, you have probably correctly concluded that the mounted figure that has been the topic of the last few posts is in my possession. I was humbled and blessed by a gift presented to me by good friend, Konrad. Konrad asked me to take a few photos of the figure as it is presently being presented in one of my curio cabinets.

As you know, this specific mounted herald participated in the 1911 Delhi Durbar. However, I have him displayed with some of my glossy Britains 1903 Durbar figures. He is placed with this company because his scale most clearly blends with the Britains figures. He is a bit small to display with my Beau Geste Durbar figures, and a bit large to be displayed with my Hiriart or Hocker Durbar figures. Even though he actually represents the 1911 Durbar, I like where he presently resides. And,...as you can easily imagine,...I am most happy he resides in my collection.

Below, you should find the few snaps Konrad asked me to provide. As you examine them, you will quickly see that Konrad is the better photographer. The glare resulting from the flash I must use in my basement display room hides the exquisite beauty of the horse. At any rate, I hope you enjoy the photos. I know I endlessly enjoy the figure.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Beautiful figure, Pat, and the display looks magnificent. What part of your display that shows looks like a wonderful assortment of figures and is VERY colorful. Very nicely done. -- Al

Hi Al,

Thank you for your warm comments. Indeed, the figure is a treasure. I shall be forever grateful that Konrad presented me with it.

I also very much appreciate your comment concerning my display. I am very proud of my Durbar collection and it is nice to know others enjoy seeing it. It is easy to become transfixed by the colorful nature of the figures. I suppose that is one of the greatest reasons they hold me so spellbound. I can never seem to have enough of them.

Once again, let me say I appreciate your comments. Coming from you, I consider them to be high praise. Thanks, so much.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat, thanks for the photos. The Herald looks to be exactly where he belongs: proudly leading a glittering procession. As a stand-alone figure he'd be fascinating, but you've put him in context, and that heightens his impact. Like a jewel in a crown:cool:. (And we can never have enough Durbar pix!)

Hi Mike,

I am very glad you enjoy the photos. When I obtained the figure, Konrad and I considered several placements of it and we agreed the best place to display him is where you see him. He is such a magnificent figure, he belongs at the front of the parade.

I agree with your comment about never having enough Durbar pix. Since a large portion of my collection is dedicated to the Durbars, perhaps I should attempt to post more photographs of my displays. The displays are all contained on glass shelving inside curios with mirrored backings. The environment in which the figures are placed provide some significant challenges to my feeble photography skills. However, if you like, whenever I get some free time, I will try to get a few more snaps of some of my displays so you might see more of my Durbar collection.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Nice work, John {bravo}}
Thanks for the new pics in this thread.

Hi John,

Those Indian Army figures are stunning! Thanks for sharing them with us. I really liked the Sower from the 19th Lancers its a very interesting sculpt. I also liked the Irish Lancer but would really like to get some Lancers for the Sudan and a nice big display of Omdurman/recapture of Khartoum. I certainly hope Britians will produce some of these even if they are matte.

Thanks again for sharing your great work with us!

Dave

Beautiful figures. The sowar getting mounted is outstanding. -- Al

Terrific website John!^&cool^&cool I was just blown away by your superior gloss section. I hope my RAF vignette makes the website soon . . . :wink2:

John was kind enough to send me some photos of the figures he has magnificently painted for the RAF Diorama he is making me. He even obtained a Heco Tinplate Models Hawker Hurricane he is refinishing to match the figures. Here are a couple of the photos he sent me:
