Heco Tinplate Models (2 Viewers)

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

Thanks, Al. I am happy to do it. There are 58 different Heco models depicted so far (some are the same vehicle in the marking from different fronts, like WWI Desert, WWI Western Front, WWI Royal Navy, and WWII versions of the Rolls Royce Armored Car). Not counting the photographs of the Heco Advertising materials, which add about 20 more items) I figure about 1/3 of Heco's overall production has made it onto this thread. It is my hope that eventually we will get photos of at least one version of every model Heco made onto this thread. Tony and Adele Williams' artwork deserves to be fully cataloged.

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

I just picked up a really cool tinplate WWI German Zeppelin & crew off ebay - I am not sure it is Heco, but it really has the feel and look of Heco stuff. Once it arrives, I will send Brad some photos to post. Maybe one of you gentlemen will know who made it.

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

I just exchanged e-mails with the gentleman who sold me the Heco Gloster Gladiator MK2. I enquired whether he was willing to sell more of his Heco collection as he had originally indicated. He told me that after viewing the photographs of my Heco collection (which I sent him after the original sale had gone through) he was so impressed that he changed his mind and decided to keep the remainder of his Heco collection.

Tank about hoist by your own petard!!!:eek::eek::eek:

That's the last time I show off to a potential seller . . . ;)

Oh well, the Tinplate WWI German Zeppelin and crew should be arriving soon, so I have that to look forward to ;) . . . I still haven't been able to find out whether or not it is Heco.

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

The German WWI Zeppelin and Crew arrived. Its 1:64 scale, which Heco did produce. It is very well made hand built tinplate with a white metal crew. I will take some photos and ask Brad to post them here.

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

Great pickup!:cool: You are of course very welcome. Hopefully, soon I will have a hand in getting you your third . . . ;)

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

I sent Brad 6 photos of the 1:64 scale tinplate WWI German Zeppelin and Crew I acquired, with a polite request that he post them on this thread. :) Heco did make 1:64 scale products, including, to my knowledge a large British WWI Barrage Balloon similar in size to this German Zeppelin. However, while the craftsmanship looks very similar to Heco, I have no idea if this Zeppelin is Heco or not. After viewing the photos, please let me know if anyone knows who made this Zeppelin and Crew. Thanks!:)

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

Very nice collection indeed. I do like this last piece that Brad posted something just a little different from the norm.

From what I am led to believe my Nan used to sew barrage balloons together as her contribution to the war effort.

Isn't it amazing how everyone pitched in to the war effort. By the way, for those who are wondering, my 4-1/2 year old son Alec fell in love with the airship, so it is hanging in his room . . . hence the sailboat wallpaper.;):D:p:)

Yes and I wonder if we would (god forbid) ever see that type of comradeship again if WWIII broke out. Nowadays we don't even know our neighbours well enough to borrow a cup of sugar

Maybe most people are that way, but I am very close to my neighbors, as well as my friends around the world . . . ;)

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

Just agreed to buy a Heco Maurane Salnier monoplane and another single seat Bleriot Monoplane. Photos to follow upon receipt.:)

Re: Heco Tinplate Vehicles

The Heco Marane Saulnier monoplane and the (very early) Heco single seat Bleriot Monoplane arrived this afternoon. The Bleriot came in its original box. The Saulnier is exquisite - a really beautifully painted piece.:cool: I will take some photos of them on the Heco portion of my airfield, but they will have to wait until Brad returns from vacation in China to get posted.

Thank you for posting the photos for me, Terry. And thank's for the education about the Marane Saulnier. Here is what Terry taught me about this interesting warbird:

It was a very difficult plane to fly and only about 50 of the fighter were built. Historically it was significant because it was the first airplane to have the MG firing through the propeller using a syncronysing gear. The French MG ammo was unreliable, so deflector plates were put on the propeller. Early on, one of the first MS planes landed behind German lines because of engine trouble. The Germans took the syncronizing gear to Fokker where it was quickly improved and put into production giving the Germans air superiority for several months. It is a misconception that the Germans invented firing through the propeller, but they didn't, they only copied it. They were working on an interrupter gear (unsuccessful) and a syncro gear (not ready yet). Interesting that when they copied and improved the syncronyser, the first plane the German's put it on was the Fokker A.III monoplane. Strange coincidence considering how few monoplanes there were compared to biplanes in WW1.
