Gentlemen,
As you may be aware, we usually dedicate each New York Toy Soldier Symposium to the honor of someone in the hobby (for example Andy Neilson of K&C, Bruce Whitman, B25 Mitchell Pilot and collector, or the late Doug Stock, whose widow was invited). I was thinking that perhaps next year (March, 2011), Tony and Adele Williams, the proprietors of Heco Tinplate Models, might be good candidates to be honored.
There seems to be a good amount of interest in their wonderful products (more than 14,000 views of this thread), they are friendly with our good friend Clive (Lurchio) who could personally extend them the invitation, and (their health permitting) it would be fun to honor one of the "mom and pop" cottage manufacturers that have long constituted such important contributors to the hobby. It would be very interesting to bring Tony and Adele into contact with the other manufacturers who usually attend the symposum, like Andy, John Jenkins, Rick Wang of Figarti, or Ken Osen. One could only imagine how fascinating the exchange of stories, anecdotes about the hobby, and ideas between these past and present manufacturers could be.
It could be the beginning of an entirely new element to the Symposium - invinting retired manufacturers to talk about their experiences and the history of the hobby. Len Taylor of Trophy of Wales, members of the Stadden family (sadly Chas. Stadden passed away) could also be honored in this fashion. Would those of you who have attended or plan to attend the New York Symposium be interested in meeting and speaking with these former manufacturers?
