Heco Tinplate Models (1 Viewer)

Again - I've just discovered this thread and thank you so much for posting. An amazing collection and so vibrant. I'm in awe and guilty of envy regarding post 161 the 1914 German Gunboat. But everything looks so special.

I'm glad you found the thread. I hope you enjoy the photographs of Tony Williams and Adele Moore's artworks as much as I do.

Missing the opportunity to purchase that gunboat is one of the great disappointments of my collecting pastime. That magnificent ship and the Junkers JU52 Heco also made in 1:32 scale are the holy grails of Heco collecting as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe you could do comparison photos of your similar fighters for different eras. I would be interested as to the differences. I also have found a source ( some scissor skill required ) for close enough replacement propellers for the early stuff. I have kept the original props ,that one can pop out, so as to not reduce value...I will post photos later...Michael

I will take some comparison photos later today and ask Brad to post them for me.

I would like to see photos of the three dimensional props you are substituting on your early production Heco aircraft if you get a chance.

I sent Brad eleven comparison photos of earlier and later production models of the same types of aircraft, including early and late-mid production Fokker DR1's, early and late production Nieuport 17's, early and late production Bleriot Monoplanes, late-mid and late production SE5a's, and early-mid and late-mid production Pfalz III's.

Attached is one of my new acquisitions with a replaced prop. They are made of plastic for the radio controlled plane hobby. The original is larger, but I was able to cut it down, with scissors and repaint to a more woody color. Michael

Looks great, Mike! ^&cool^&cool

I just got some news from the West Coaster . . . my buddy Hans bought me a Heco Spad in U.S. Army Air Corps Markings of the "Hat in the Ring Squadron" - the top hat from the New York Yankees Logo is painted on the side. ^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool Thank you Hans!!:smile2:

I won't get it until I see Hans, probably at the Valley Forge Show at the end of April. Photos to follow upon receipt.

Here are the photos...

If I could solder with just a little skill, you can bet I would be installing wire supports to my planes. Instead of painting services being offered, maybe we can find a micro solder expert^&grin..Michael

You did a great job upgrading the prop, so I imagine you might be able to pull off the wire supports as well. Those are two of the three areas of Heco development. The third area is the cockpit and gun details, and the fourth is Adele's constantly improving skill at paint finish.

Quite an impressive aircraft line-up, Louis. I like the comparisons. Heco really did hone it's craft as it went along. Really like the Nieuports as they are particularly well done. -- Al

The wire looks polished, not painted. What gauge and where do you think I might be able to buy the wire. You challenged me and now I have to try it at least once..Michael

Michael,

Per a suggestion by KV I was at a hobby store a few months back that a very large assortment of wire and metal sections in numerous lengths and widths. I picked some up to help with a soldier repair (pin an arm for a stronger repair) and to do the same for a prop/spinner on an old Warbird. What about piano wire by the way? Hope this helps. The store was Hobby Bench and I know that a lot of the online stores that sell RC airplane materials have all sorts of things like that. You should see my RC dh98 mosquito that has a five foot wing-spam and done in the livery of the U.S. mosquito ACE, Lou Luma-another off topic story. I am still very jealous of those beautiful Heco items as I really loved that airfield tower. Anyway, best of luck and have fun.

Regards,
Marc

Mike,

On my late production SE5a, Tony actually used thread to more accurately similate the wires to scale. Why not use thread (which can be easily removed at a later date if you ever choose to sell the Heco aircraft, thereby preserving the value)?:wink2:

I will probably hate myself in the morning and I am not sure the proper rigging is fully represented, but these are toys, after all..Michael

Tim Tyler, who is sending me the Heco Spad XIII that Hans got for me at the Westcoaster, sent me some photos of it. It is late production, with a three dimensional prop, full wire details, and hand painted markings, not decals.^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool

I have forwarded the photos to Brad with a polite request that he post them for me on this thread.

Louis,
When we hit that room it was a treasure trove for all of us.

Tim - picked up Ducal Band Set, Old Militia Models Set
Ed - 2 different Royal Horse Artillery sets
Me! - 2 Marlborough Sets, Magazine Figure, Dorset Mule Mtn Artillery, HM GB Pathans and I think maybe more, I forget already!
Hans - I found him 2 Frontline Japanese Pilot sets , it killed me as I need them, but Hans has been looking longer and I was joyous he now has them.
Louis - Heco

Not only was the room awesome, but great pricing too!
Tom

Looks like you got the basic rigging correct. Good job. Nice Sopwith tripe. -- Al
