Home Displays and Dioramas... (1 Viewer)

I apologize that it has taken so long to finish this thread...I had good intentions to get it done quickly and got really sidetracked...but here is my last display...this castle is one of the first scratch built structures i ever made...that time involved to cast each brick by hand...build it and coupled with K&C's fantastic Crusader/Saracen series...I swore I would never sell it...following this post are some pics...

The French Indian War Scene is simply beyond fantastic. It is perfect!!!! You managed to blend all the figures seamlessly into a single display. Who else could have put the mortar wagon with the canoes and make it work? Only MIKE!!! The Indians on horseback even fit. Particularly fond of the mass of French and Indians in firing position along the Creek. Your groundwork is so, so good. There are very few posts in the history of the forum where the quality of the groundwork has approached your work.

Mike,

What are the dimensions of the display?

Ken...thanks for the comments...the dimensions are 37"s x 57"s...I wish i had made it bigger as I have outgrown it...I have added a few more figures to it recently...here are a couple of current picture...

Really like that display Mike.Did you make that bridge and where are the trees from?
Mark

thanks Mark...yes I made the bridge...it was easy...just popsickle sticks and coffee stirrer sticks...it was embedded in the table and the river was poured into it...enclosed is a close-up picture...

This could be titled "Battle of the Thin-Red-Lines.":wink2:

Very engrossing display and pictorial.

Moe...thanks for the view and comment...

I've noticed that Mike does terrific renderings of water-features. I suspect that this is an area where "the wheat get's separated from the chaff" in terms of skill and experience in diorama building.^&cool

-Moe

Moe...the water is really easy to do...it creates a very nice effect...if you ever want to try...just contact me and I will help you in any and every way possible...thanks for the comment...

Mike, for a collection like this, you should really be offering Open House events like Hillestead. :)

Jim sent me a disc of his displays years ago...I have never been in his shop...but some of my friends have and have told me they are quite spectacular...thanks for the nice comment...

here are a ton of pictures of the castle I made with K&C's Crusader/Saracen collection...there are a few Del Prado pieces on the table...while they are easily detectable...for the price they are certainly "affordable filler"...all of them quite nice and pretty comparable in scale...

What a great series of displays! Lots of colour and action.

Agreed. Nicely done and very colorful. I wish I could see it in person.

Great castle Mike :salute:: and I have the same moulds and Jack has long wanted a castle and some where down the track I have promised to make him one, it will have to be a team effort I think as it will be on much grander scale, well that's the dream but there are a few large dios to be done first.....:rolleyes2:
Wayne.

Mike,

Wonderful display of so many great toy soldiers. Your creation of landscaping and buildings really sets off your figures. Great way enjoy your scenes all the time.

Have to repeat what others have said, outstanding collection and wonderful display. Enjoyed seeing this very much. Chris

Jack...thank you...yes...I guess that's a common theme to my collection...I do seem to like the vibrant colors...

Wayne...thanks...if anybody understands the amount of time spent to cast all those bricks...it's you...one suggestion...if you ever do an enclosed fort or castle...make it big on the inside...that is one of my regrets that I wish I had made it larger...

Steve...thanks for the comment...I think the scenics really do help displaying the figures in their best light...that is if you have the room in your house...

Stunning as always!

Zach...thanks for the view and comment...

Chris...appreciate the compliment...thanks...

Fantastic display and excellent work on that castle. When I first saw it I thought it looked like it was made of casts bricks and such, but then I thought it looked too professional for that. Really nice work, you should be very proud!

Walt...thanks for the flattering comment...it actually was made from bricks i cast one at a time in my garage...it look several months to glue them all together and paint...^&grin

WOW!!!!!!!
What is not to like on this thread. Masterful Dioramas that send me away to the different times represented. Mike I am really surprised that you did not do a Raid on St. Francis. With the beautiful John Jenkins Line and a great chance for another water feature involved. I am an 18TH century buff myself. The Horse and Musket period with all the great uniforms. Three cheers for a job well done.
