I built and painted these 1:8 scale models for my son Alec, how did I do? (1 Viewer)

I am sending Brad five photos of the completed figures, and asking him to disregard the first set, and post these instead.:smile2:

As you could tell from my earlier post, I wasn't 100% thrilled with how Jonny came out, and I hadn't yet received the figure and accessories I needed to do Dr. Benton Quest.

Well, I decided to remedy my issues with Jonny Quest, mostly about the way his hair lacked the classic blond pompadour Jonny was famous for. I bought a container of plastic wood from the local hardware store, and sclupted him a pompadour exactly like the one on the model of him I built and painted (as depicted earlier in this thread). I am waiting for it to fully dry, and once I paint it, I will be a lot more pleased with how Jonny turned out. I am also awaiting delivery of a camera for him like the one depicted with the prototype action figure that was never produced.

Benton Quest was also completed today, and I am even more pleased with him than I was with Race Bannon.^&cool^&cool I painted his head exactly to match the head of the model of Benton Quest, and dressed him in dress pants, dress socks, dress shoes, dress shirt, tie, a lab coat, and put a clib board in his hand, exactly like the prototype of his action figure.

Once I have finished painting the new "Jonny pompadour", I will take some new photos, and ask Brad to post these photos instead of the one I originally asked him to post.:smile2:

Oh Louis, you are in way deep my friend! Thanks to you I can not get the names Bandit or Hadji out of my head. I think you and your son should be in Jonny Quest character this Halloween!

Best,
MArc

That would be fun, but I doubt most people would get it, since Jonny wears only a black turtleneck and jeans, and Dr. Quest just wears dress clothes with a lab coat. People would think I was a pharmacist walking aroung with my uncostumed son.{eek3}

Terry (Phantomwarrier) PM'd me that he would post the photos, so I forwarded them to him this morning.:smile2: Thanks in advance Terry!

Here is a new set of Jonny Quest photos by Louis.

These look great Louis {bravo}}

I don't remember seeing any of the Jonny Quest episodes on UK TV in the '60's, but we were heavily into BATMAN :wink2:

Cheers

Martyn:)

Right you are Louis-I did not think that one through so you have will have to save the idea for a future convention or similar. Of course you could get your son a dog and name it Bandit. Reliving childhood memories via history, shows & toys really is something great and including your son is quite the bonus.

Enjoy,
Marc

Gentlemen,

My converted Jonny Quest action figures made the official website: http://www.classicjq.com/

Just click on this link, then go to "Fan Submissions", then "Fan Creations". There is even a link to the e-mails I sent the host of the website explaining how I made the conversions.:smile2:

Louis, a good read, will we see a new episode detailing the "Nehru Jacket Quest" ^&grin

Only if I ever find one . . . once I get the rocket pack, pistol belt, holster and a few other bits and bobs (as out old friend Andy would say:smile2:) I will take some more photos of the action figures.:wink2:

I found an articulated bulldog to paint as a better Bandit for the action figures. It was from a Japanese knockoff of Barbie from the 50's, and is pink, but looks pretty close to bandit sculpting wise. A couple of coats of primer, and some white and black paint, and I should have it looking like a proper Bandit in no time.

Also dug around in my son's Schleich toy animal collection and found a coiled cobra that looks exactly like the one that would have come with the prototype Playing Mantis Hadji figure. Anybody have any idea where I find a snake charmer flute in 1:6 scale?

I found a "Captain Action" grappling hook and rope makes a perfect duplicate of the one that was supposed to come with the prototype Jonny Quest figure.

The one problem I have left to overcome to complete the conversion is all of the figures were supposed to come with hand held "video communicators". Any of you science fiction afficionados know of an action figure which come with some kind of hand held video communicator?

Louis,

You obviously had hidden talents all these years. Congratulations.

You are also making leaps and bounds technologically; you even figured out how to load an avatar! ^&grin

Brad

I loaded it, but our good friend Kevin (Panda1gen) shrunk the photo for me, and told me how.:eek:

Okay, you gentlemen already probably figured this out, but I am out of my mind. I actually looked up snake charmers on google, found out the flute like thing they use is called a "Banjira" and was able to find an 8 inch snake charmer doll with a tiny toy banjira and purchase it to complete my Hadji conversion.{sm4}

Race Bannon's pistol belt, holster and .45 arrived, and again, I am really impressed with the quality of today's 1:6 scale accessories. The clip comes out of the pistol, the holster opens and buckles shut, and the faux-leather belt has a functional buckle.

So now Race and Dr. Quest are done (I am awaiting a rocket pack for Race), and once the new Bandit and the rest of Jonny and Hadji's accessories arrive, I will take some more photos.:smile2:

I finally found a better lab coat for Dr. Benton Quest than the "Dr. Ken" one I have been using, with proper pockets, etc., but the website that produces it says it is not taking orders right now. I sent a polite e-mail to them asking if they would make in exception, so we will have to see what happens. If they agree to make one for me, I will push my luck, and see if they will make a proper Nehru jacket for Hadji.:wink2:

Jonny's grappling hook and rope arrived today. I am hoping the poseable bulldog to convert into Bandit and Hadji's Cobra and snake charmer flute arrive soon, so I can take some photos of the completed conversions using my K&C desert airfield diorama as a backdrop, for a "Curse of Anubis" feel.

The 1:6 scale Bulldog arrived, and I converted it into Bandit by covering its pink finish with two coats of gray primer, then two coats of white paint over the entire figure, then painted in the details of his "black mask", blue collar with silver studs, heck, I even painted claws on his toes and pawprints under his feet. Appearance wise I am absolutely thrilled with the figure, but it is English Bulldog size in comparison to the 1:6 scale figures, and I think the Bandit in the cartoon is French Bulldog or Pug sized, so it looks a little bit too big. I will take some photos of the Bandit conversion with the figures and ask brad or Terry to post them for me, but I think I will be back to the drawing board trying to find a poseable French Bulldog or even a Pug in 1:6 scale to convert a proper sized Bandit/
