Is our Hobby Changing? (2 Viewers)

I did see the offending post early in the morning. Would have joined in to defend the lack of Bond girls but was a long day.

The hobby is in such a poor state of affairs I had to ask the dish washers in the two neighbouring coffee shops if they could sub-contract their dish washing duties to me. Naturally training time did not count but they say next week I will actually get paid. After that I cleaned all the windows in the street and then started my cobbling course next door so I can fix the family shoes. I got home late as decided to save petrol and walk the 20km home. Of course it would have been difficult to drive home considering I have just sold the four tyres.

However as we all know things have been quiet here at TF recently and local law enforcement have not had to deal with a riot for a while. Just a pity the Kiwi boy in blue was the law breaker.

Gotta go as the better half is putting out dinner and I don't want my fried Hershey and turnip mash to get cold.

......how dare my colonial cousins go and make me laugh so hard this fine morning, that I spill me morning cup of Joe all over me toast and marmite.

May the 'jacking' continue..........

You have money to buy Hershey bars and then fry them!!!!! Do I detect profiteering in the hobby... {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

When you say "bar" please see Waynepoo's picture. Thanks to those inventive Americans there is a giant wonderland called Costco where they sell big bags of mini bars. One "mini" bar is rationed amongst a family of four. However I have just realised since I sold the car tyres might have to ration the bag even more as Costco is a fair drive and involves a toll bridge.

Isn't that some sort of Special Forces explosive?:wink2: -- Al

With the Defence cutbacks in the UK and AUS/NZ it all helps. In fact the next time the USA needs backup they might just get a carton of Marmite by FEDEX.

That is why you should be grateful that it was Spielberg and Hanks who made Saving Private Ryan. British troops would have been sticking Marmite jars to the German tank tracks.

Oops, better not talk about tank tracks. Might be accused of thread jacking.^&grin

Sure sounds like a real 'icky' bomb to me.^&grin -- Al

This just gets worse, you can also afford Costco membership!!! Don't you hide behind the mini bar myth neither..... We must stand together and demand photographic evidence! {sm4}{sm4}

Actually it might put the thread back on topic is some sort of strange way although it has the potential of sending it in all directions once again! {sm2}{sm4}

As we all know there are several good, reputable Toy Soldier companies still churning out interesting products on a regular basis, while a few have dropped off the face of the planet
for all intensive purposes.Seems IMO collectors are holding onto their collecting Funds until that one must have figure, figures, or vehicle, Dio set comes out. We have our current CORE collecting
"base" of mostly men in their 40's ,50's,60's and 70 Y/O age group able or willing to pay $45.00 on up for a metal painted figure or $200.00 + for vehicles. As the older group of collectors pass on,
it will be up to the lower age group tier of collectors to support the Hobby. My 27 Y/O son who is a Staff Sergeant in the Army with 8 years of service will be visiting tomorrow with family in tow.
Once I show him my display cases with figures, vehicles, Diorama's and full size weapons and gear, I will do my best to interest him in this Hobby. I am more than curious on his impression of
this Hobby !

Hi Wayne,

You echo my own thoughts here.

It will be interesting to hear your sons opinions as I do believe current serving and ex military personnel are a target market.

Enjoy the time with your son. You can tell he has a proud father. :salute::

Wayne,

Wish you son all the best will you and thank him for his service!

Well, My son and wife, Grand kids spent 2 nights with me. When I showed him my "Man Cave" he glanced around at the 1/30 scale WWII stuff, but was more focused and
interested in the full scale weapons and gear. He still plays the shooter video games and as a child was not like his Dad that had G.I. Joes and 1/32 plastic Airfix soldiers all over the place.
He loves the movie Fury so if I can get him hooked on a K&C New Fury tank that may get the ball rolling !

My 2 sons are ages 30 and 25 and they seem to have zero interest in entering this hobby nor do they have the excess income to waste because of essential financial obligations that take first preference ....They seem have other interests and I think that this is the case for most of this younger generation.....Kids play differently today then we did in the 60's...Fewer war toys and more video games.....Is our hobby changing?....You bet it is.....I also have a serious O gauge Train Collection and again my sons have "very limited interest" in that hobby as well.

Hey John, Are you a fellow train guy?........I have a only modest 12X12 layout due to space constraints in my basement ....Mostly Premier MTH proto 2 (Milwaukee Rd and Pennsy and NYC).....It just seems that the train hobby is also somewhat in decline with fewer people entering and very age specific 50-70yr......I use to be really into it and would attend shows...I notice that the shows seem smaller with fewer people attending....Over the years I lost some interest and then moved on to TS hobby around 2007

Sounds like me. I used to collect O gauge, Lionel and MTH. Had a small setup but it took up a lot of space.

I also had an 'O' gauge collection, all Lionel, mostly inherited from my childhood collection that my father put together for me and my brother. My brother never exhibited any interest once we hit our teen years so I ended up with the trains. Used to have a small set-up, but it took up too much room while raising my 3 kids, and it hasn't been set up since the 80's. My children have no interest in the trains, or my TS collection. I tried to interest them in TS while they were growing up, buying them Britains Deetails, and giving them access to my old Marx figures, but no real lasting interest resulted. I now have trains, TS, and airplanes aplenty, with no one to leave them to. I hope they enjoy liquidating the collection when the time comes.:rolleyes2: -- Al
