Is our Hobby Changing? (3 Viewers)

With your remote location,even more remote than Australia are your shipping and custom charges extremely high?Where do you order your figures from mostly?
Mark

Airmail postage can easily double the cost of the TS item you've ordered if you're not careful, but if the value of the imported goods is under $450nz then you usually don't get stung with 15% GST tax by custom's. Then their's our exchange rate which is the hidden killer. It's not bad against the Australian dollar right now, down to 60/70 cents against the US dollar and terrible against the UK pound sterling.

Because of this I order most of my stuff from Australia now, although have purchased the odd item from fellow TF members in the past who live in the US.

I added up my total postage costs covering one 12 month period once and it easily came to a third of my total purchases over that time and then worked out the extra cost our exchange rate added to it all. The result was scary and I can honestly say some of my TS items have cost me twice what they actually retail for.

This of course is a choice and I'm not having a moan, but you can appreciate how envious I am of those of you who have ready access to TS stores and shows you can attend.

It's one of the reasons why I'm extremely careful with my purchases and why the internet and social media sites like TF are so important.

It's also how I've managed to make a whole new bunch of mates all over the globe, least of all that dodgy lot across the ditch in Brisbane of all places.^&grin:salute::

I'd prefer it if the food was served by Bond girls but it is a question of what is within people's power to provide.

Drinks, soldiers and food served by Bond girls?? I'll be seeing if Wayne has an extra couch to crash on!! :)...Sammy

In my defence I think I have been deleted for a response to inappropriate content in which I acknowledged that what had been posted was inappropriate. To throw me into the mix with the other colonials is borderline libel{sm4}

Was there this morning and was offered a brother of one of these which was one of 1/2 dozen inside a roll of masking tape, no drinks had to bring my own coffee!.........:rolleyes2:

I did see the offending post early in the morning. Would have joined in to defend the lack of Bond girls but was a long day.

The hobby is in such a poor state of affairs I had to ask the dish washers in the two neighbouring coffee shops if they could sub-contract their dish washing duties to me. Naturally training time did not count but they say next week I will actually get paid. After that I cleaned all the windows in the street and then started my cobbling course next door so I can fix the family shoes. I got home late as decided to save petrol and walk the 20km home. Of course it would have been difficult to drive home considering I have just sold the four tyres.

However as we all know things have been quiet here at TF recently and local law enforcement have not had to deal with a riot for a while. Just a pity the Kiwi boy in blue was the law breaker.

Gotta go as the better half is putting out dinner and I don't want my fried Hershey and turnip mash to get cold.

You have money to buy Hershey bars and then fry them!!!!! Do I detect profiteering in the hobby... {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}
