JJD 2023 Advent Calendar Sketches (1 Viewer)

This is my 4th year posting the Advent Calendar for John. I can say that most of the sketches have eventually been made into figures/sets, although some have taken over 2 years to see the light of day.

Mike

Thanks, great to know, if half of what i wanted came out in 2024 i would be very happy.

It looks like JJD is going to be working on existing ranges but if any new ranges are coming out he's keeping it secret for now.

I wanted to congratulate your work on the event calendar.
This doesn't have to happen alone and I thank you for taking your time to give us the pleasure of enjoying these sketches every day...
it's as much fun as the monthly release of JJD by ''Julie''!
I hope you can satisfy us in the same way for 2024 and I wish you, in the meantime, a happy Christmas...

Thank you very much Francis. Your kind comment is much appreciated. I'm all in for 2024 if John decides to have an Advent Calendar next year, and I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't. I have fun doing this for John and it's not without it's rewards in more ways than one. I only posted the 2020, 2021, and 2022 Advent Calendars on the John Jenkins Designs Collectors FB group. A couple of the FB group members who also belong to the TF Forum (John O'Brien comes to mind) posted some of the sketches here but typically not all. This year I decided to post the sketches for the benefit of both groups. I'm glad I did and I do look forward to doing the same next year. All the very best and a very Merry Christmas to you and everyone else that has visited this thread.

Very grand looking Inca, he looks great, i can imagine him in the Inca compound. Not for me but love to see the variety in Johns work. Only one yo go. I am hoping we go out with a bang with Jacobite artillery.

Merry Christmas to all. Its Chrissy Eve here in Oz. I cant wait fir the big day i have JJD, Britain’s and K n C all waiting under the tree for me. Such a lucky man.

Actually Jason there are 2 more sketches to go, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Remember the time zone difference . . . It's still the 23rd here.

Yes, me too, there has been no figures in this year's offering so far that I am interested in, as they seems to be either ancients or North American ranges while I collect 7 Years War and Napoleonic.

We shall see tomorrow morning ??? That will be Christmas Day 'down under :)

John

The holiday season is upon us all, including me. I'm going to be very busy tomorrow morning preparing for family guests from out of town. So I'm posting tomorrow's sketch a little early while I have the time.

Us Napoleonic collectors need a Christmas miracle from John (a return to the Napoleonic Wars) this year after enduring that God awful Ridley Scott film.

interesting !
the theme of the gold prospector can mix with the theme of the trapper and establish a connection with the Native Americans... the "Black Hills" for example...
an intelligent way to develop these dioramas...

True.
And what's the West without a prospector?!
Merry Christmas Francis. I'm happy you appreciate JJD so much. Dad & I do also.

yes, I really like JJD quality...
I have been a K&C collector since 2004 but for 2 years now, K&C has significantly reduced its releases on the themes I collect (WW2 Germans)..
My dealer so directed me to JJD, making me observe the enormous qualitative step forward in sculpture and painting that JJD was making, inaugurated by the Vikings and the first Amerindians...
Since then, I have been overwhelmed every month by the range of themes and creativity of JJD.
Trappers, Amerindians, Amazons and Lycians are the new collections that I am developing...
The Hittites, Nubians and Egyptians could well be my next themes if I can keep up...
I was also able to appreciate the very good quality Team Miniature where I was able to acquire a few Sioux riders completely mixable with JJD and K&C...
15 80x40cm dioramas, each illustrating a period, make up my collection...
13 dioramas WW2 on the German side, 1 on the trappers and the Crows, 1 on Little Big Horn and I will install a new showcase for the ancient dioramas (Lycians also called Lukkas (the tank!), Amazons, etc...). ..
I recommend the Lycians to all collectors of antiquity... Why? because it is an army that offers a certain versatility...
They were present at Troy against the Greeks and allied with the Amazons whom they also fought, before Troy... they were alongside the Hittites against the Egyptians but also against the Hitites. finally, they had to face the Nubians since the Nubians were present alongside the Egyptians against the Hittites...
So, the Lycians or Lukkas are a very good investment, you have the choice of opponent!

Merry Christmas !

Yeh, i agree, the trappers, prospectors and thunder on the plains mixes well. A great mix of figures, would have loved more Jacobite tid bits, but thats just whinging beacause about 80% of these potential figures are right up my alley.
Great stuff.
Merry Christmas to all

This is the last one. I hope everyone found something to look forward to. It was fun doing this once again for John and I look forward to doing it again next year. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. All the very best,

Oh my gosh, The Zulu War. I love collecting this period. I know John will pit his original spin on it. Last thing we need is more 24th Foot.
We need NNC, auxiliary cavalry, sailors, personalities and more artillery.

the William Britains brand et Thomas Gunn who still reign a little on this theme must not have been transported with joy if they saw this sketch...
of course, for collectors of this theme, it's a blessing! and what's more, JJD isn't doing anything banal for his first figurine of the theme..
JJD sends directly to excellence and clearly shows its intention to impose itself on this already well-exploited period.

ho it's over... I would have liked it to last longer!
in any case, it was fascinating to discover, especially in small daily doses, the pleasure is even greater!
For my part, I found my happiness and the prospects of new themes like the Hittites!
I wish us a year 2024 rich in figurines, new themes and always great creativity from JJD!
